Eleni vs. Helena?

I love the nn [name]Leni[/name], and after looking at several options, [name]Eleni[/name] and [name]Helena[/name] are my two favorite choices. I’m just not sure which I should pick! I feel like they both have completely different vibes, but I adore both.

What are the pros and cons of each? Would [name]Helena[/name] fit someone better who is not Greek? Is there a reason you prefer one over the other? Any huge flaws with either? MN suggestions?

Thanks!

[name]Helena[/name] “[name]Leni[/name]” is one of my top names! [name]Lovely[/name], vintagey full name with a cute, spunky nickname. What could go wrong?! [name]Eleni[/name]'s cute as well, but it seems to lack some substance, and I far prefer [name]Helena[/name].

I think both names have equal “substance”, [name]Eleni[/name] just seems like it has less because of the -i ending, which makes most names very cutesy. I love [name]Helena[/name] also, but I do think pronunciation would be a slight issue. But then again, any name can be misspelled/mispronounced.

Maybe you should decide which one to use based on the other names on your list? I loved both [name]Aurelia[/name] and [name]Magnolia[/name] (and obviously couldn’t use both), so I decided to put [name]Aurelia[/name] on my short list because it fit better with my other top names.

[name]Hope[/name] that helps

Thanks! I think that’s my dilemma–everyone says that [name]Eleni[/name] doesn’t go with my list as well as [name]Helena[/name] does, but I think [name]BOTH[/name] go perfectly with my list!

lol. Maybe I should come up with combos first, and see which combo I love more? I dunno. Any combo ideas? My only two prerequisites for combos are that I want two MNs, and one of the MNs has to be [name]Grace[/name], [name]Giovanna[/name], [name]Maren[/name], [name]Claire[/name], [name]Kate[/name], [name]Lily[/name], [name]Ruby[/name], [name]Noelle[/name], or [name]Rebecca[/name], to honor family.

I think the nickname [name]Leni[/name] is adorable, but it will still age very nicely. I like both names, but a plus for [name]Helena[/name] would be that she would have to correct people with spelling and pronunciation much less often than with [name]Eleni[/name].

Hmmm, how about…

[name]Helena[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Ruby[/name]
[name]Helena[/name] [name]Katherine[/name] [name]Noelle[/name]
[name]Helena[/name] [name]Felicity[/name] [name]Claire[/name]

[name]Helena[/name] Elowen [name]Violet[/name]
[name]Helena[/name] Xanthippe [name]Grace[/name]
[name]Helena[/name] [name]Penelope[/name] [name]Kate[/name]

[name]Eleni[/name] [name]Victoria[/name] [name]Noelle[/name]
[name]Eleni[/name] [name]Rebecca[/name] [name]Violet[/name]
[name]Eleni[/name] [name]Madeline[/name] [name]Ruby[/name]

[name]Eleni[/name] [name]Georgiana[/name] [name]Claire[/name]
[name]Eleni[/name] [name]Sophia[/name] [name]Maren[/name]
[name]Eleni[/name] [name]Amalia[/name] [name]Ruby[/name]

I apologize for the lack of eccentric middle names for [name]Eleni[/name].

Really?! I always figured [name]Helena[/name] would. There’s heh-[name]LAY[/name]-nah, helen-ah, and I had a friend with a daughter named [name]Helena[/name], said like heh-[name]LEE[/name]-nah, which is what I’m so used to now, so there’s like, three pronunciations. [name]Eleni[/name] seems so simple to me! Eh-[name]LEN[/name]-ee. shrug

I agree – [name]Helena[/name] is a great name, but I can’t use it because of the confusion of 3 competing pronunciations.
