Eliad

So many years ago while at work I had a customer come through with a little boy named Eliad. I know it was Eliad because I asked her just to double check if I heard it right. It has become a guilty pleasure name for me and I’ve recently started thinking of it again. Looking up the name I really can’t see anything on the name though I’ve seen a few people through Google so I know I didn’t make it up lol.
What are your thoughts on this name? Would you find it a daring name? What style would you put Eliad under? I think it sounds kind of hebrewish. Loving the idea of Eliad and Meribah together . Middle name ideas?

It sounds like [name_m]Gilead[/name_m] or Illiad. One is a fictional dystopia. The other is a classic book by [name_m]Homer[/name_m].

It reminds me of Gilead… A name I definitely wouldn’t wanna be associated with.

But I do agree it sounds Hebrew, and I’d pair it with middles like Eliad [name_u]Jonah[/name_u], Eliad [name_m]Leo[/name_m], Eliad [name_m]Cole[/name_m] and Eliad [name_u]Rory[/name_u].

I think it’s a very cool name & sounds great with Meribah! It reminds me of Elias (even though they sound totally different) and like the others have said, it also reminds me of Iliad and less so Gilead (not sure what associations they’re referring to? the associations I have with it are all positive :woman_shrugging:t2:). Sounds Hebrew to me as well, and I’m assuming it is because of the similar Eliada and Eliab, but I have no idea if it actually is. I would probably pair it with lesser known Old Testament/Hebrew names. I think it’s brave, but also feels familiar because of Elliot & Elias.

I like it. And think it goes really well with a sibling [name_f]Meribah[/name_f]

Eliad is really cool! It’s interesting and bold but doesn’t seem too out there.

Eliad is a Hebrew name. It combines the name Ad which means “eternal” and Eli which means “my G-d” so the whole name would mean “my G-d is Eternal”

Eliada is a name in the bible. I think it’s a shortened form of it.

[name_f]My[/name_f] GOD is eternal is a great meaning. Thank you for finding it :relaxed:

Hebrew names are pretty great for adaptability too so the same meaning can be made into other names as [name_m]Adiel[/name_m], Eladi, Ad-Eli etc

[name_f]My[/name_f] future offspring will be Jewish and it’s important to me and my husband that they have hebrew names.

[name_m]Gilead[/name_m] is a fictional dystopia in The Handmaid’s Tale that is all levels of wrong.

It probably won’t be an issue if you have never seen or read THM but it’s the first thing I thought of.

Eliad is interesting! I’m not terribly familiar with it but it does remind me of other Hebrew/Biblical boys’ names like Eliav/Eliab, [name_m]Elihu[/name_m], [name_u]Elias[/name_u], [name_m]Eliam[/name_m], etc. It’s likable and feels a bit epic because of the Illiad! Also really like the association with [name_m]Gilead[/name_m], not because of The Handmaid’s Tale, but rather because of the biblical significance… there’s a really lovely hymn/song that Eliad reminds me of, via [name_m]Gilead[/name_m]:

There is a balm in [name_m]Gilead[/name_m]
To make the wounded whole
There is a balm in [name_m]Gilead[/name_m]
To heal the sin-sick soul

Especially after hearing the meaning of Eliad/Adiel, I would say I really like it, although I think I find [name_m]Adiel[/name_m] a little more appealing personally. I think something like these would be super handsome (and I agree that Eliad and [name_f]Meribah[/name_f] are delightful together!):

Eliad [name_m]Joel[/name_m]
Eliad Lev(i)
Eliad [name_m]Vincent[/name_m]
Eliad [name_m]Judah[/name_m]
Eliad [name_m]Josiah[/name_m]
Eliad [name_m]Clement[/name_m]
Eliad [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m]
Eliad [name_m]Xavier[/name_m]
Eliad [name_u]Asa[/name_u]
Eliad [name_m]David[/name_m]
Eliad [name_m]Henry[/name_m]
Eliad [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] (love this one!)

Good luck!

It has a handsome sound but I also thought of [name_m]Gilead[/name_m] / The Handmaid’s Tale.

I love it! It’s been on my realistic list for a few months now - I’m Jewish and would be raising my kids as Jewish if that makes a difference to you. I haven’t met any but it fits in with the traditional Jewish names I’ve heard as it’s an “el” Hebrew boys name.

I don’t think it sounds too similar to Gilead/Illiad? Eliad is eh-lee-ahd (last syllable is NOT like the word add!) and afaik [name_m]Gilead[/name_m] is gill-ee-add and Illiad is ee-lee-add - I’m north american and that’s my best guess/how those were taught to me. Eliad and [name_f]Meribah[/name_f] are very sweet. I also love [name_m]Eliav[/name_m] (eh-lee-ahv) which sounds similar but has a different meaning (“My God is my father”).

To me it sounds like Illiad from the book by [name_m]Homer[/name_m] only spelled different. I also associate it to Illian which is Russian. If I had to pick a category I would say Eliad is sort of Gaelic/Greek

All is think of is elias.
