I REALLY want to use the name [name_f]Elinor[/name_f] for my baby girl. “[name_f]El[/name_f]-li-nor” “The [name_m]Lord[/name_m] is my [name_m]Light[/name_m]” or “G-d is my Candle”. However, I need the middle name to be [name_f]Judith[/name_f] after a family member, and [name_f]Elinor[/name_f] [name_f]Judith[/name_f] just sounds like too much name for a little girl. Can you think of any variations on [name_f]Judith[/name_f] that would honor her while still remaining recognizable as related to [name_f]Judith[/name_f]? If not, which combination of the above names do you recommend? [name_f]Elinor[/name_f] [name_f]Judith[/name_f] [name_f]Christine[/name_f]/a [name_f]Karina[/name_f]? Any names meaning light or song?
I think [name_f]Elinor[/name_f] [name_f]Judith[/name_f] is beautiful, personally.
[name_f]Judy[/name_f] and [name_u]Jody[/name_u] are nicknames I don’t happen to like. [name_f]Yudith[/name_f] and [name_f]Yudit[/name_f] would be the original forms of the name (J = Y in Hebrew). [name_f]Giuditta[/name_f] is the Italian form. [name_f]Judithe[/name_f] is the softer [name_m]French[/name_m] version. [name_f]Jutta[/name_f], [name_f]Jutte[/name_f] and [name_f]Juut[/name_f] are the Germanic/Dutch spins on the name.
Names that mean light: [name_f]Aurora[/name_f], [name_f]Eliora[/name_f]/[name_f]Liora[/name_f]/[name_u]Lior[/name_u] (probably too close to [name_f]Elinor[/name_f]), [name_f]Helen[/name_f]/[name_f]Helena[/name_f], [name_f]Lucia[/name_f], [name_f]Lux[/name_f], [name_f]Nera[/name_f] (NEER-uh), [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f], [name_f]Tanwen[/name_f], [name_f]Zohara[/name_f], Meira (meh-EER-uh)
Names that mean song: [name_f]Shira[/name_f] (SHEER-uh), [name_f]Ranit[/name_f] (rahn-EET), [name_f]Melody[/name_f]/[name_f]Melodie[/name_f] (duh), [name_f]Calliope[/name_f]
I love [name_f]Elinor[/name_f]! Reminds me of [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_u]Austen[/name_u]!
[name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_f]Elinor[/name_f] [name_u]Jude[/name_u]? Yes, it is usually considered a “boys” name, but [name_f]Martha[/name_f] [name_m]Stewart[/name_m]'s grandaughter is named [name_u]Jude[/name_u]
I think it flows better too!
Song-like suggestions (since [name_f]Elinor[/name_f] means light of the [name_m]Lord[/name_m])
[name_f]Elinor[/name_f] [name_f]Aria[/name_f]
[name_f]Elinor[/name_f] [name_f]Cadence[/name_f]
[name_f]Elinor[/name_f] [name_f]Lark[/name_f] (songbird)
[name_f]Elinor[/name_f] [name_u]Piper[/name_u]
[name_f]Elinor[/name_f] [name_f]Selah[/name_f]
I knew a girl in high school called [name_f]Elinor[/name_f] [name_f]Judith[/name_f]. I think its a lovely name for a little girl
I agree with withinreason… While jude is totally a boys name I am not against using boys names in the middle! And I think [name_f]Elinor[/name_f] [name_u]Jude[/name_u] flows fantastically!!!
Other Variations are…
[name_f]Judy[/name_f]
[name_m]Judah[/name_m]
Judea
I think [name_f]Elinor[/name_f] [name_f]Judith[/name_f] and [name_f]Elinor[/name_f] [name_u]Jude[/name_u] are both lovely options. Gorgeous choice
I think [name_f]Elinor[/name_f] [name_f]Judith[/name_f] is lovely, and little ones don’t stay little for long. She’ll grow into it sooner than you know.
That was going to be my suggestion too
[name_f]Elinor[/name_f] [name_u]Jude[/name_u]. I like that [name_u]Jude[/name_u] gives it a more youthful or modern twist
and paired with such a classic first name it is quite smart.
Are [name_f]Julia[/name_f] and [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] close enough to honour [name_f]Judith[/name_f] for you? But personally, I love [name_f]Judith[/name_f]- it’s the name of my favourite singer, [name_f]Judith[/name_f] [name_m]Durham[/name_m]. Check her out and I wouldn’t be surprised if it makes you love the name [even more]… The S&S tie with [name_f]Elinor[/name_f] is wonderful too; while I prefer [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] I love the character [name_f]Elinor[/name_f].
Thanks for sharing your thoughts! Jude was an option I hadn’t considered for a girl, though it was my first choice for a boy. What do you like better, Elinor Judith or Elinor Christine and why? Anyone want to talk me into Eleanor? Do you prefer Elena Judith or Elinor Judith?
I do prefer the [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] spelling (I’m a fan of [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] of [name_f]Aquitaine[/name_f] and Eleanor Judith just looks better written on the page) but I think [name_f]Elinor[/name_f] [name_f]Judith[/name_f] is fine. We spend most of our lives as adults so we should really be concerned if a name ages well rather than “it’s too much for a little girl”. [name_m]Both[/name_m] [name_f]Elinor[/name_f] and [name_f]Judith[/name_f] have cute nn’s that are more suitable for a child ([name_f]Ellie[/name_f], [name_f]Nell[/name_f], Nora, [name_f]Judy[/name_f]). Choosing [name_f]Elinor[/name_f] [name_f]Judith[/name_f] gives her the option of reverting back to the full names when she enters a professional life.
I like [name_f]Elinor[/name_f] [name_f]Judith[/name_f] best, though [name_f]Elinor[/name_f] [name_f]Christine[/name_f] sounds beautiful and I’d be thrilled to meet a child with either name…I associate [name_f]Christine[/name_f] with the lovely [name_m]French[/name_m] pronunciation from Phantom of the [name_f]Opera[/name_f].
I think I’d rather talk you into keeping [name_f]Elinor[/name_f]. It’s under-used and a nod to [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_u]Austen[/name_u], and I like it just as much as [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] but it’s rarer.
I like [name_f]Elinor[/name_f]/[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] much more than [name_f]Elena[/name_f], and I like [name_f]Judith[/name_f] more than [name_u]Jude[/name_u].
