I was discussing [name_u]Elias[/name_u] with a friend the other day and they immediately said ‘ooo yeah [name_m]Elio[/name_m] for short’… This wouldn’t be my instinctual nickname from [name_u]Elias[/name_u] however. I would say [name_u]Eli[/name_u] was? However I do quite like [name_m]Elio[/name_m] from [name_u]Elias[/name_u]. Could this work or not really? I like [name_u]Eli[/name_u] too so it’s not a game changer for me, just putting the question out there.
It’s a weird one as [name_u]Eli[/name_u] and [name_u]Elias[/name_u] actually feel like they are two separate names to me too. ( They even have different meanings) so [name_m]Elio[/name_m] could technically work or not?
I think it works, although they have the same number of syllables so it’s more like a cool alternative name rather than a shortening. For that reason [name_u]Eli[/name_u] feels more natural as a nickname, but [name_m]Elio[/name_m] works too.
I think [name_m]Elio[/name_m] could be a cool nn for [name_u]Elias[/name_u] although [name_u]Eli[/name_u] would be my go to
Ditto.
I feel [name_u]Elias[/name_u] and [name_m]Elio[/name_m] are distinct separate names and [name_u]Eli[/name_u] feels more natural as a nickname for [name_u]Elias[/name_u] (though I definitely agree- if I met an [name_u]Eli[/name_u] I wouldn’t automatically assume it was a nickname)
I think both work equally well. Go with what you prefer (or both!) I wouldn’t bat an eyelid at either of these as a nickname for [name_u]Elias[/name_u].
I think they work fine!
Yes, I think [name_m]Elio[/name_m] can be a nickname for [name_f]El[/name_f]- name.
I would go straight to [name_m]Elio[/name_m] as both [name_u]Elias[/name_u] and [name_m]Elio[/name_m] are established names on their own so it would be a bit confusing. I would suggest you choose between [name_u]Elias[/name_u] and [name_m]Elio[/name_m] whichever you love the most, although you certainly can choose whichever name you want, but [name_m]Elio[/name_m] as a nickname for [name_u]Elias[/name_u] isn’t intuitive.
I can see [name_u]Elias[/name_u] getting [name_m]Elio[/name_m], but it feels odd to specifically pick [name_u]Elias[/name_u] just to go by [name_m]Elio[/name_m]? In that case, I’d just go straight to [name_m]Elio[/name_m]! lol. But if it’s a sort of fun nn, I don’t see why not? I have this weird habit of elongating people’s nns instead of shortening them (a [name_m]Ben[/name_m] and [name_f]Carol[/name_f] I knew became [name_m]Benedetto[/name_m] and [name_f]Carolina[/name_f], ha), so I can see me calling an [name_u]Elias[/name_u] “[name_m]Elio[/name_m]” for that reason. But I think [name_u]Eli[/name_u] is much more straightforward.
I agree. [name_m]Elio[/name_m] can work as a nn for [name_u]Elias[/name_u], although I guess [name_u]Eli[/name_u] is more… natural? But I can see [name_m]Elio[/name_m] too!
I can see [name_u]Eli[/name_u] from [name_u]Elias[/name_u]. I think you can get [name_m]Elio[/name_m] from [name_u]Elias[/name_u] if you want to.
Sometimes people have very odd associations or assumptions with names that almost no one else would think of. I think this is one of those cases.
