Elio

Thoughts on the name [name_m]Elio[/name_m]? Is it too girly or is it nice for a boy?

Italian origin meaning The [name_f]Sun[/name_f]. (We are Italian)

Thank you!

I like it, we used [name_u]Elliott[/name_u] but I think [name_m]Elio[/name_m] would make a nice nickname (we are Italian also). I like the meaning and the easy, light sound. I think it is really handsome! And really similar feeling to some popular names without being too common ([name_u]Nico[/name_u], [name_m]Leo[/name_m] and [name_m]Enzo[/name_m] come to mind)

I don’t think its feminine but it does remind me of Oleo! (Oleo was what they called margarine in old recipes lol random I know)

Not girly at all. Reminds me of the pizza! :pizza:

I can’t express how much I adore this name

When I bounced the idea off friends, many said they can see it being misread by teachers as [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] or [name_u]Elia[/name_u]. Personally, I don’t mind that at all. If I had a son, I wouldn’t want him to feel ashamed of anything feminine. Plus, my name was constantly misread as a boy name (I’m female) and it was kinda embarrassing, but not a big deal.

I made a post months ago, asking for any associations I may have missed for [name_m]Elio[/name_m]. The responses were:

  • The connection to the name [name_m]Helios[/name_m], thus the association with helium
  • Ellio’s Pizza
  • Elio Motors - A three wheeled car

Sorry I completely forgot to mention the association with the movie Call Me By Your Name. [name_m]Just[/name_m] realized that hadn’t been pointed out yet!

I like [name_m]Elio[/name_m] a lot! I don’t see anything remotely feminine about it; it’s a great name!

It’s quirky and cool! I mean, what can be too feminine about it?

To me it sounds very Italian ( this isn’t a bad thing, I’d just kinda assume the baby had an Italian parent or Italian roots). It’s handsome and I don’t think it’s girly. I do think it will get very popular though if that doesn’t bother you.
I also love [name_m]Helio[/name_m] and [name_m]Aurelio[/name_m].

Helio is also lovely!

I think [name_m]Elio[/name_m] is lovely!

I like [name_m]Elio[/name_m] for a boy. Pair it with a strong masculine middle name for a nice sound.
