Eliot, Elliot, Elliott or Eliott?

Pedantic as it may be, we have decided to call our first born [name]Eliot[/name] or [name]Elliot[/name] or [name]Elliott[/name] or [name]Elliott[/name]??

Mn [name]James[/name].

But I can not decide which spelling! Hubby does not care, but I do, every time I spell it I do it differently.

Which is the best spelling and why?

This is my all-time favorite time. Personally I’d go with [name]Elliot[/name].

Ditto augusta. [name]Elliot[/name].

Any reason why?

Definitely [name]Elliot[/name] - I believe this is the most popular spelling, and it looks complete, to me.

[name]Eliot[/name] looks incomplete, [name]Eliott[/name] looks unbalanced, [name]Elliott[/name] looks surnamey, [name]Elliot[/name] looks most complete and nicer.

[name]Elliot[/name] or [name]Elliott[/name], I used to always spell it as [name]Elliott[/name] but I’m coming round the idea of [name]Elliot[/name] too.

I do believe that [name]Elliott[/name] is the most common in the UK.

[name]Eliot[/name] doesn’t look right, and [name]Eliott[/name] looks even stranger and looks like you’re trying to make the name different.

[name]Elliot[/name] and [name]Elliott[/name] are both recognised spellings of the name so I’d go with one of those only.

I like [name]Elliott[/name] the most because it looks the most complete to me.

I think [name]Elliott[/name] and [name]Elliot[/name] are most common. I always lean toward [name]Elliott[/name], but I think I have a thing for double-t endings. [name]Elliot[/name] would work just as well. Good luck and congrats! [name]El/nameiot(t) [name]James[/name] is lovely!

[name]Love[/name] [name]Elliot[/name]!

For me, [name]Eliot[/name] feels like it’s missing something; [name]Elliott[/name] feels like it has too many extra letters; [name]Eliott[/name] feels like it’s unbalanced–like if it was on a scale, the "T"s on the end would just make it topple over! lol. I don’t know why I always think that, but I do. [name]Elliot[/name] seems balanced, dignified, perfect length. I love it. [name]Elliott[/name] would be my second choice; the other two I wouldn’t really consider at all, I don’t think.

Good luck!

My vote is for [name]Elliot[/name]. [name]Elliott[/name] would be my second choice. I like the first better just cause it is less repetitive with the double letters. I don’t like [name]Eliot[/name] or [name]Eliott[/name] because they kinda look like they should be pronounced with a long e and I like [name]Eli[/name].

I feel like I say this a lot on here, but it tends to come up so I chime in.

I named my son [name]Elliott[/name] [name]James[/name]. I too was unsure which spelling to choose. What I did was go back over the past century and look at which one was the most common and [name]Elliott[/name] won by a land slide. The [name]Elliot[/name] spelling is just now gaining ground and the names are practically neck and neck on the latest SSA list.

I adore the name [name]Elliot[/name]!! Awesome choice.
My preference is to spell it [name]Elliot[/name], my second choice being [name]Elliott[/name]. I don’t like [name]Eliot[/name] or [name]Eliott[/name] at all.

My favorite is [name]Elliot[/name], followed by [name]Eliot[/name].

Positives: [name]Elliot[/name] looks complete, and looks nicely balanced. [name]Eliot[/name] is simple, streamlined, and picks up a little cool from [name]George[/name] [name]Eliot[/name] and G-man [name]Eliot[/name] Ness.
Negatives: [name]Elliott[/name] is cluttered looking; I think two sets of double letters in a relatively short name is one set too many. [name]Eliott[/name] looks strangely weighted on the back end, unbalanced as if it’s just dragging that extra T around.

[name]Elliott[/name] is my favorite, closely followed by [name]Elliot[/name]. [name]Eliot[/name] looks totally incomplete and [name]Eliott[/name] just looks misspelled.

[name]Elliot[/name] [name]James[/name]

[name]Elliott[/name] is how the kid in ET spelled it. That’s how I would spell it too. Its one of those things you should try to over think, because if you study it too much then all options look odd or spelled wrong. (Kind of like when you say a word too many times it starts to feel like its not really a word anymore.)

[name]Elliot[/name] is my fav spelling

I think you’re good with [name]Elliot[/name] (my preference), [name]Elliott[/name], and [name]Eliot[/name]. All three are recognized spellings, and in the States, all three are in thr Top 1000. None of them would shock anyone. [name]Elliot[/name] seems to be the most popular, so I’d go with that.

I like [name]Elliott[/name] best. It looks the most balanced to me.
I love the name, by the way!
