I am looking for thoughts on the name [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f]/[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. I myself prefer the spelling [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] but I am curious as to what you all think. Which spelling do you prefer? Is there any bonuses for each spelling or any issues I should be aware of? Which nicknames suit each spelling? What are some nicknames that you like for the name? Which spelling is the more popular in the UK?
Edit: I forgot to say I am thinking of using Elisabeth/Elizabeth as a middle name for Lucy.
I prefer [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f]. In my opinion, the main advantage of [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is that it is the default spelling of the name in the English-speaking world. I see [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] as softer and more international. I see the nicknames [name_f]Lizzie[/name_f], [name_u]Izzy[/name_u], [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], [name_f]Bizzy[/name_f], and [name_f]Liza[/name_f] tied to the [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] spelling. Meanwhile Lissy, [name_f]Betsy[/name_f], [name_f]Bess[/name_f], & [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] more associated with [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f].
I prefer [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], I like its sound more and it’s what I’d assume the name was spelled as.
I also love nickname [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] which you don’t get with [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] (I dislike [name_u]Lisa[/name_u])
My favorite [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] variation is actually [name_f]Elisaveta[/name_f] or [name_f]Lilibet[/name_f]
I greatly prefer [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] because it is the standard spelling and is far more common than [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f]. My middle name is [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], and I’ve always just liked the look of it and the simplicity of the spelling. The [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] spelling really doesn’t do anything for me.
I prefer [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] because I think the Z looks cooler
Also [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is the standard English language spelling of the name. But the international [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] is lovely as well!
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. It makes more sense with the pronunciation and won’t require correcting people constantly because everyone knows how to spell it.
I agree [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] looks cooler, and I do think [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] will be misspelled from time to time, though I wouldn’t worry about that since it’s only a middle name.
Although I love and adore [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], I feel partial to the [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] spelling more. The [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] spelling sounds more flowy and girlish, not to mention it also sounds a lot softer than imposing, regal [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f].
Although if you’re using it as a middle name for “[name_f]Lucy[/name_f],” which is a quirky, soft girlish name, I do think the [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] spelling would firm it down so the whole given name wouldn’t sound flimsy
I prefer [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] to [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f], although I love both variations. I think it’s just so classy and wears well no matter what. People would probably assume it was spelled with a Z as that’s more familiar, so that could cause confusion. I think the nicknames stay the same for the most part- [name_f]Lizzy[/name_f] or Lissy, etc. I like the nickname [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] a lot too. [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is very cute!
