Hi everyone!
I recently came to terms with the fact that I love the name Elijah and the nn Eli, which surprises me because I typically prefer less common names. I shared this with my husband and he recommended Elisha. Now I am just in love! Despite the conversations I’ve seen online about this being a possible girl’s name, I just love it- the sound, the meaning! Is it usable?
What are some less common biblical names that you love?
I typically go for names that point to the Bible and have an international flair; names that may be pronounced easily in English and Spanish. And those that aren’t super common.
A few boys names that I’m enjoying right now:
Elisha
Elisei/Elisey (I have long loved Eliseo and Esai and was excited when I recently came across this variation of Elijah!)
Elisha is very much a female name from my perspective although there are various spellings such as Alesha and many more (all pronounced ah-lee-sha)
However if you are using Elisha in terms of the ee-lye-sha pronunciation, i’d use Elijah as the spelling as Elisha these days much more popular along females with the ah-lee-sha pronunciation too so it would cause pronunciation issues, and possibly make your child end up wondering why he has a ‘girls name’.
[name_u]Elisha[/name_u] is lovely - gentle but strong too! I’ve met a man called [name_u]Elisha[/name_u] too!!
[name_m]Elisei[/name_m] and [name_m]Eliseo[/name_m] are bright and intriguing!
[name_m]Abram[/name_m], [name_u]Lirio[/name_u], [name_m]Benedito[/name_m] and [name_m]Joab[/name_m] are cool too
Thank you all so much for sharing! I love [name_m]Alejandro[/name_m] nn [name_m]Alejo[/name_m] (There was a similar name that I came across as well- Alejio), Elionai🤩, [name_m]Josiah[/name_m], and several others that were mentioned!
I have a [name_u]Gideon[/name_u] , [name_m]Jairus[/name_m] and [name_m]Jabez[/name_m]
Others that have been somewhere on our list at times:
[name_u]Israel[/name_u]
[name_m]Emmanuel[/name_m]
[name_u]Hezekiah[/name_u]
[name_m]Mordecai[/name_m]
[name_m]Emmaus[/name_m]
[name_m]Linus[/name_m]
[name_m]Felix[/name_m]
[name_m]Simeon[/name_m]
[name_u]Asa[/name_u]
[name_u]Psalm[/name_u]
I feel [name_u]Elisha[/name_u] does have a very feminine sound and I would go with [name_u]Elijah[/name_u] or just [name_u]Eli[/name_u]. Of the other names on your list, I like [name_m]Abram[/name_m] best. [name_m]Abel[/name_m] would also make a nice, less common Biblical name. A few of my favorite less common Bible names for boys are [name_m]Zaccai[/name_m] and [name_u]Thaddeus[/name_u].
