Elle or Sloane?

Deciding between [name_f]Elle[/name_f] and [name_f]Sloane[/name_f] for baby girl but not loving the nickname [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]. Is it avoidable? [name_m]Welcome[/name_m] all thoughts on our top 2!

[name_f]Ellie[/name_f] is probably avoidable (unless your family just nicknames everyone) because it’s longer and more syllables than [name_f]Elle[/name_f]. I wouldn’t worry about it. I like [name_f]Elle[/name_f] a lot better than [name_f]Sloane[/name_f].

There are some people who will nickname regardless of what you want. However[name_f][/name_f] there are people out there who live with un-nicknamed names, but they themselves have to insist that they aren’t nicknamed. So if your daughter is one of those people, it could work, but if your daughter is one of those people who don’t mind then I think she probably will become [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]. And if that will bother you then I would go with [name_f]Sloane[/name_f].

[name_f]Elle[/name_f] is such a lovely name! As long as you’re okay with correcting the few people who are determined nicknamers, and you’re aware that someday [name_f]Elle[/name_f] might voluntarily choose to go by [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], then I’d say it would be okay.
[name_f][/name_f]I know an [name_f]Elle[/name_f], and she’s never gone by (or been called, as far as I’ve heard) [name_f]Ellie[/name_f].

I think [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] might be avoidable when she’s young, but there’s always the possibility that she will choose to go by [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] when she’s older. I overall prefer [name_f]Elle[/name_f] to [name_f]Sloane[/name_f], but I also think that [name_f]Sloane[/name_f] is the more distinctive choice.

I personally prefer [name_f]Sloane[/name_f]

I love [name_f]Elle[/name_f]. I also don’t like the nickname [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]. I think you can avoid it, but it’s even easier to avoid if you choose a name that you can use [name_f]Elle[/name_f] as the nickname for…but I love just [name_f]Elle[/name_f]. I struggle with [name_f]Sloane[/name_f] …I just hear slow.

[name_f]Elle[/name_f] is very pretty as spelled. But as a sound? I know a couple with a little girl named [name_f]Elle[/name_f]. When they say “Elle this…Elle that…” all I think of is the letter L. Like that’s how her name is spelled! I do not like [name_f]Sloane[/name_f]. It has an unpleasant sound and seems like a run-on of “so alone.”

If you don’t want a nickname I would go for [name_f]Sloane[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]! I think [name_f]Sloane[/name_f] is my favourite of the 2 names based on popularity

I prefer [name_f]Sloane[/name_f], but it sounds like you might prefer [name_f]Elle[/name_f], as long as people don’t call her Ellie…? Go with what you love!

If you want to avoid [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], I’d go with [name_f]Sloane[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]- [name_f]Elle[/name_f] might sometimes get a) misread as that, or b) just called that by anyone who’s a nicknamer. As a [name_f]Grace[/name_f], people do just add that i in and I can imagine the same for an [name_f]Elle[/name_f].

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Sloane[/name_f] is my favourite anyway [name_f][/name_f]- distinctive, interesting and stylish

I think it’ll be hard to stop Elle being at least an occasional Ellie. As someone who really doesn’t warm to Ellie (think it’s as simple as it sounding like belly, jelly, smelly etc), I’d be reluctant to go for Elle. I also think it’s easy to swallow the name Elle. I’d probably go Ella b/c then people will nn go Elle more than Ellie!

If pushed, would go for the cool and nonchalant Sloane - nn Sloaney, Solo, Lolo, Lola etc. but I do like the lightness & optimism of Elle.

I much prefer [name_f]Elle[/name_f] over [name_f]Sloane[/name_f]- she’s so elegant and sophisticated while [name_f]Sloane[/name_f] is more androgynous/modern.

[name_f][/name_f][name_f][/name_f]

However, if you were firm about using [name_f]Elle[/name_f] only, it would most likely stick for most people!

Of the two I prefer [name_f]Sloane[/name_f]! [name_f][/name_f] I’m not an [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] fan either, and I like the more princessy [name_f]Ella[/name_f] over sleek and stylish [name_f]Elle[/name_f]. [name_f][/name_f] [name_f]Elle[/name_f] is beautiful [name_f][/name_f]- I just like [name_f]Sloane[/name_f] better myself. [name_f][/name_f] I’m 50/50 on if [name_f]Elle[/name_f] would get a lot of [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] against your wishes, [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] is more familiar, but I like just [name_f]Elle[/name_f] a lot more than [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]. [name_f][/name_f] But I’ve developed into a big [name_f]Sloane[/name_f] fan and love seeing her, so she’s getting my vote.

I think it’s definitely avoidable- espeically more when she gets older! However, I think [name_f]Sloane[/name_f] is a better choice but just my opinion.
