Ellery?

Waaaay more modern than my usual taste but crushing on it lately.

WDYT? Too trendy? Works?

I have a similar attraction to [name]Delaney[/name], would [name]Delaney[/name] and [name]Ellery[/name] work or too rhyme-y? Too trendy together?

[name]Ellery[/name] and [name]Imogen[/name]? (in US).

Thanks!

I like the name. It’s not too trendy, it’s different. But ido have a little cousin named [name]Ellerie[/name] [name]Jessamine[/name].

Thanks! Too interesting! I love the name [name]Jessamine[/name] : D. That’s a nice combo.

[name]Ellerie[/name] is a pretty spelling, although I think I would go with [name]Ellery[/name] personally for ease.

I think the name itself is off-beat a bit but there are so many [name]Elle[/name]- names…but with good reason, they’re lovely!

A friend of mine has an [name]Elodie[/name]…I don’t think this’d be too close though, they would hardly ever if ever see each other.

I love love love [name]Elodie[/name] but I can’t see [name]Ellery[/name] as a name, all I think of is Celery, the vegetable.

[name]Delaney[/name] though is nice.
[name]Elodie[/name] and [name]Imogen[/name] go well together.

Similar to [name]Ellery[/name] I can think of is [name]Ella[/name]-[name]Reese[/name] which I think is nice.

Ha ha! [name]Ellery[/name] rhyming with celery doesn’t bother me. However, I do think that it evokes one problem: it sounds like a lot of names, too, like [name]Avery[/name] and [name]Hillary[/name]. That may be enough to cool my crush in time.

[name]Elodie[/name] is lovely but while I would use [name]Ellery[/name] without worrying, I don’t think I’d use the exact same name as my friend, when it’s an uncommon one like [name]Elodie[/name].

Since when is [name]Ellery[/name] a girl’s name? All I can think of is the detective [name]Ellery[/name] [name]Queen[/name].

I used to love [name]Ellery[/name]! It doesn’t capture my interest anymore, but I do remember loving it. I had seriously tossed around [name]Ellery[/name] [name]Madeleine[/name], [name]Ellery[/name] [name]Jewel[/name] (I think [name]Ellery[/name] [name]Juliet[/name] would be lovely, too), and [name]Ellery[/name] [name]Jane[/name], too. I would have used the nn [name]Ella[/name], maybe just [name]Elle[/name].

To me it feels very different, stylistically, from your other favorites. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with [name]Ellery[/name], but I can’t really see it as a sister to [name]Imogen[/name], [name]Helena[/name], [name]Louisa[/name], [name]Miriam[/name], [name]Sylvia[/name], etc. I do think [name]Ellery[/name] and [name]Delaney[/name] could work but they seem a bit similar to me. I think something like [name]Ellery[/name] and [name]Harper[/name] or [name]Ellery[/name] and [name]Quinn[/name] would work–I would probably pair it with something equally unisex with a different ending, personally, but I don’t know why you couldn’t do [name]Imogen[/name] and [name]Ellery[/name]–I don’t really think sibsets need to match as much as most Berries prefer them to.

Thanks [name]Ash[/name]! Yes, I agree it’s out of keeping. I do have a long long list that is more diverse than the short list, although still pretty classic/old-fashioned. Besides [name]Delaney[/name], [name]Afton[/name] and [name]Emerson[/name] are on for girls, also [name]Arden[/name] and [name]Auden[/name]. [name]Afton[/name] and [name]Ellery[/name] seems especially sweet; [name]Emerson[/name] and [name]Ellery[/name] is nice but too much E. [name]Arden[/name] and [name]Ellery[/name], maybe also very nice.

[name]Harper[/name] and [name]Quinn[/name] are both appealing but I would probably not use [name]Harper[/name] because of the mega-fast rise.

But yes, I think it’s staying off any serious, more likely lists. [name]Glad[/name] to know you liked it too at one point! I remember liking it before but not as much as now.

Basically, I recently realized it would sound really nice with the last name. But oh well : D.

[name]Glad[/name] to hear you could see it with [name]Imogen[/name] though. I agree, sibsets don’t have to be perfect.

@miloowen - I have never seen/heard that reference outside of NB’s entry for boys, so I don’t have that reservation. I do agree it’s uni, but I don’t mind uni names on girls. I know that’s not always shared, or even entirely fair (I am definitely somewhat guilty of double standards) but that is the way taste works. Anyway, I don’ t think [name]Ellery[/name]'s turning into a serious contender for me given the response here…and my usual taste.

[name]One[/name] word: Celery.

Other than that, I can see why someone would like it… It sounds cute with [name]Delany[/name] and [name]Imogen[/name].

I babysat for a little one named [name]Ellery[/name] [name]Cate[/name]. She must 18 or 19 by now. I like it. Her parents called her [name]Ellery[/name] Celery at home, but as far as I know she was never teased about her name.

Too close to celery for me. What about [name]Mallory[/name]?
