Elliette for a girl?

I’m not expecting, but for a daughter I love the name [name_u]Elliot[/name_u]; Elliette for a more feminine spelling. What do you think?

The [name_m]French[/name_m] girls name [name_f]Eliette[/name_f] is usually spelled with one “l” and it’s a legitimate name. I think it’s a great name and certainly looks a lot more feminine than [name_u]Elliot[/name_u]. I don’t think a girl with this spelling would have any issues with mistaken gender identity.

Yerp. This.

I really like [name_f]Eliette[/name_f] for a girl. For such a subtle difference in pronunciation, the spelling changes the name entirely into something totally feminine and delicate.

Wonderful! A legitimate names that combines two great name sounds.

I adore [name_f]Eliette[/name_f]. Very pretty! :slight_smile:

Totally agree with everyone else that this is soooo much prettier and completely solves the gender-identity problem of the unisex name. Elliette and [name_f]Eliette[/name_f] are only slight changes from [name_u]Elliot[/name_u], but are transformed sooo beautifully :slight_smile: also, Elliette more closely allows for the [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] nn option. Beautiful beautiful beautiful :slight_smile:

Thanks for all your feedback!:slight_smile:

Oh, I love [name_f]Eliette[/name_f] on a girl! [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] is such a cute nickname. :slight_smile:

I know [name_f]Eliette[/name_f] is a legitimate spelling but I still can’t get behind it. In my head, it’s still a misspelling of a males name. I’d rather see a female [name_f]Eliette[/name_f] than a female [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] though. :slight_smile:

I looked up [name_f]Eliette[/name_f] on Behind the Names and it is not listed. So I did a quick search and found nothing on [name_f]Eliette[/name_f]. To me it looks like a made-up spelling for [name_u]Elliot[/name_u]/[name_u]Eliot[/name_u]/[name_u]Elliott[/name_u]. I feel [name_f]Eliette[/name_f] would cause so much spelling issues. I also feel that others would feel it is a misspelling, a unique spelling. People will already have issues because there are three ways of spelling [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] but I feel not many people would even think about spelling it [name_f]Eliette[/name_f], if anyone would. I personally would stick with [name_u]Elliot[/name_u].

@lovemysweeties -

I usually have a hard time finding it on Behind the Name, too. They have it listed with an accent over the E, it’s here: User-submitted name Eliette - Behind the Name

It’s also a user-submitted name.

Thank you.

I still would have big concerns. [name_m]Just[/name_m] doing a general search in Google did not come up with much. Now I only did a fast search and looked up “girl’s name [name_f]Eliette[/name_f]”. Average people, non name lovers, I am afraid will think it is a unique name.

It’s adorable! I have always liked [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] for a girl, but [name_f]Eliette[/name_f] is ten times better!

[name_u]Elliot[/name_u] is on our list for a girl too! A lot of berries suggested I spell it Elliette. I don’t love the spelling. [name_f]My[/name_f] thought is that the name itself is already unique because you are using it as a girl name. Changing the spelling too just seems a little overboard to me. I still love [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] and am working on the hubs to love it too. Good luck.

Top name for me, however the hubby Vetoed it and went with [name_u]Arley[/name_u] instead. I wanted to spell it Elliette

@casilda

I know Eliette is a legitimate spelling but I still can’t get behind it. In my head, it’s still a misspelling of a males name. I’d rather see a female Eliette than a female Elliot though.

Exactly this.

[name_u]Elliot[/name_u] / [name_u]Elliott[/name_u] to me is a very boyish name, I find it quite odd on a girl, however, [name_f]Eliette[/name_f] makes it 10 times more “usable”.
People might not spell it right at first but since the male name also has four correct spellings, they probably wouldn’t spell that right either.
I pronounce [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] and [name_f]Eliette[/name_f] a bit different, emphasizing the last syllable of Elliette ([name_f]Elli[/name_f]-ETTE) rather than the first ([name_f]EL[/name_f]-liot). [name_f]Do[/name_f] you pronounce them the same?

There’s not a lot information to be found on [name_f]Eliette[/name_f] since it’s quite rare (in [name_f]France[/name_f]) but there seem to be a Sainte [name_f]Eliette[/name_f] which has to do with the prophet [name_u]Elia[/name_u]/[name_m]Elijah[/name_m]. [name_f]My[/name_f] french isn’t very good so I don’t know if the celebration is called Sainte [name_f]Eliette[/name_f] or something else.

Yes yes, ditto all this. That being said, there’s a sports reporter here named Elliotte (male) so even with the -tte ending (which is feminine to me), I still think of a boy.

I would just use [name_u]Elliot[/name_u]. I think the other spelling is too confusing.
