Elliot for a girl?

Okay so I’m nearing the end of my pregnancy and starting to get a bit restless. We’ve been pretty set on either [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] or [name_f]Blythe[/name_f] for a few weeks but I’ve recently been thinking about seriously using [name_u]Elliot[/name_u]. It’s one of my favourite boys names but I also adore it (almost equally) on a girl. We’d call her [name_u]Elliot[/name_u]/[name_f]Ellie[/name_f]/[name_f]Lettie[/name_f]. Is it usable? Or should I save it for a boy? (But it is very likely that we never have another boy, I come from a family dominated by women and so does the husband). Please feel free to be critical. My big put off with using [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] is that she’ll face constant eye rolls and ‘your name is what?’.

Also, what spelling? [name_u]Elliot[/name_u], Elliotte, [name_u]Eliot[/name_u], [name_u]Elliott[/name_u]? I quite like Elliotte on a girl, it reminds me a bit of my name ([name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]). Help us haha. We’re going bonkers naming this baby!!

I don’t see why not. Traditional boys names for girls is very on trend and I don’t see that stopping any time soon, so she will be in good company. [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] does sound feminine to me. It is much more feminine than [name_u]Micah[/name_u], [name_u]Dylan[/name_u], [name_u]James[/name_u] or [name_m]Wyatt[/name_m]. [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] and [name_f]Lettie[/name_f] are adorable nns for a girl. If she does want something more feminine she can go by one of those. If you look at the recent social security data the use of [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] has increased for girls. It went from number 759 to 635 this year. The spelling [name_u]Elliott[/name_u] went from 832 to 674. If you love [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] I say go for it. I think the feminine nns and sound make it usable for a girl. I personally love [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] from your choices. [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] is one of my long time favorites.

It’s a bad idea, honestly. [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] is a name for boys, so are [name_u]James[/name_u], [name_m]Wyatt[/name_m], etc. [name_f]Blythe[/name_f] is beautiful and so much better for a girl.

I wouldn’t be shocked to meet a little lady [name_u]Elliot[/name_u], so no eye rolls from this corner. Im usually not a fan of “youneek” spellings so would personally keep it as [name_u]Elliot[/name_u].

It is not my style to do so, but I will keep my soapbox in the closet. It has been a growing trend. You have to love your baby’s name, and if you do love [name_u]Elliot[/name_u], it is certainly an easily spelled and pronounced name that is familiar.

I cannot recommend enough to spell it [name_u]Elliot[/name_u]. To me, Elliotte just adds confusion where it doesn’t need to be. It doesn’t change the name, it just adds letters. Not a fan of creative spelling. [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] and Elliotte sound the same, except she will be forever correcting and respelling the latter. I believe you should just keep the original spelling if you choose it.

Good luck!

I know two little girls named [name_u]Elliot[/name_u]- both are charming and their names suit them perfectly. The one does go by [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], which I think is an adorable nickname for an equally adorable girls name. Of your other choices… [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] is beautiful and [name_f]Blythe[/name_f] is nice but sounds awkward coming off the tongue, might be hard for young ones to say (speaking from experience)

I’m not against names being used for either sex, but [name_u]Eliott[/name_u] seems to be part of a group of super trendy boys names used for girls. I’m not a an of date stamped names, and [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] and [name_f]Blythe[/name_f] are so gorgeous!

I wouldn’t oppose using [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] in the middle at all and it goes so well with either. [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] or [name_f]Blythe[/name_f] [name_u]Elliot[/name_u].

[name_u]Elliott[/name_u] is a boy name (it comes from [name_m]Eli[/name_m]/[name_m]Elijah[/name_m]), not a girl name. I think it’s kind of ridiculous on a girl, sorry. She would probably have some issues, get teased, be called “Mister” when she gets Phone calls, etc. I would respect its origin (We should respect the roots, etymology, meaning, history and gender of the name. Names are just like languages and words). I would keep it for a boy, or I would use Elliette, a french girl name!

Definitely [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] or [name_f]Blythe[/name_f]!!

I love [name_f]Blythe[/name_f] (and I like [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]). [name_f]Blythe[/name_f] Elliette would be very nice!

I hadn’t considered that, of course. I might test it on my little ones haha and see how we go!!

I think I’ve decided against [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] for a girl haha, I’ll save it for a boy. I’m not usually one for different spellings or ‘unique’ names so I don’t think I could face criticism for it haha. But it does still have that girlish ring to it for me, like [name_u]Harper[/name_u] or [name_u]Ashley[/name_u]. I think we’re back to either [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] or [name_f]Blythe[/name_f]

[name_u]Elliott[/name_u], [name_u]Elliot[/name_u], [name_u]Eliot[/name_u] and [name_u]Eliott[/name_u] are all exclusively male names to me; [name_f]Eliette[/name_f] is a legitimate [name_m]French[/name_m] girls’ name and would therefore be the most obvious choice to get the sound of [name_u]Elliott[/name_u] yet not bestow a girl with a boys’ name (that’s currently on trend and will likely sound dated in 20 years).
I’m not a huge fan of Elliette and Elliotte but both are much better than [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] or [name_u]Elliott[/name_u] on a girl as it shows that the parents acknowledged it to be a boys name and came up with a female variation (it will also be less confusing for teachers and her mail would less likely be addressed to Mr. E. Lastname).

I think it’s fine. When my sister es pregnant with her third, she was really considering [name_u]Elliott[/name_u]. One of our favorite films is E.T. I think that might have had some influence on her liking for the name. I think it’s still one of her favorite names, even though she ended up going with [name_f]Mia[/name_f] [name_f]Valeska[/name_f]. I remember she had the same concerns as you do, is the name suitable enough for a baby girl? And I honestly think it is. If you really love it, I say go for it. All I can say is, go with your gut. That being said, [name_f]Blythe[/name_f] is a pretty cool name.

whatever you end up going with, good luck!

P.s. If you’re not 100% set on it you could always use [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] as a middle name.

I think it could work on a girl. My favorite spelling is [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] or [name_u]Elliott[/name_u], the others just lead to unnecessary confusion. You said you do like it a tad more for a boy, so I’d save it if you’re planning on having more children. I think [name_u]Elliott[/name_u] would go nicely with [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] or [name_f]Blythe[/name_f].

Personally, I find it far too masculine for a little girl, but I know more female [name_u]Elliot[/name_u]/Elliette’s than I do male so I can picture it on a girl.

I think [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] on a girl is fine, especially if you’re going to use the nicknames [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] and [name_f]Lettie[/name_f]. Elliotte is a good way of feminizing it!

I love [name_u]Elliot[/name_u]. If you are so worried about it “not being feminine enough” try Elliotte.

I love it! Use it for sure!

Go ahead and use [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] or [name_u]Elliott[/name_u], but for the love of sanity, don’t go with Elliotte or [name_f]Elly[/name_f]-ut or any other weird spellings. You’re concerned about her getting eyerolls for the name? Only for the spelling!
