Élodie

I’m really loving this name right now. It’s pronounced ay-low-[name]DEE[/name] (http://french.about.com/library/media/wavs/Elodie.wav), which I think is pretty cute. Élodie could have the nn Éla ([name]Ayla[/name])–cute! It hasn’t been in the top 1000 since 1886, but also doesn’t seem too out-there. What do you think? Cute? Weird? Could you pronounce it?

I’m in high school and have studied French since first grade, so yes I did get the pronounciation. But keep in mind that unless you’re in a French-speaking country, not all computer systems allow accents- without it I would have said eh-low-dee. And I’ve seen some people blatantly ignore accents in names…

BTW, Éla is so cute!

Yeah, I live in the US. Most people here would probably pronounce it like “[name]Melody[/name]” without the M ([name]ELL[/name]-oh-dee), which kinda “meh”. If I were to use it, I looove the nn Éla. Simple, elegant, and super adorable!

Aelodie, Alodie (I want to say “a load-y”), Eilodie, Eylodie… I like Aelodie & Eilodie, but do you think there are too many vowels? I adore vowel-y names. And Eilodie is an acronym… Maybe Eilodia instead? With nn [name]Eila[/name]? Does that seem too Kreeyaeytyfv?

I absolutely love it.

I would pn it like melody without the m

I can pronounce it because i have a friend who just had a little girl named [name]Elodie[/name]. If I didn’t already know how to pronounce it, I would have pronounced it eh-low-dee like [name]Melody[/name] without the M. I think it’s very pretty!

I agree with others that most English speakers are going to say it like [name]Melody[/name] without the M, the name looks simple but the French prn is hard for English speakers to say correctly if that’s what you expect I also think reinforcing the use of the accent in schools, on forms, etc will be a headache.

Not saying you should rule the name out but I wouldn’t expect people to say it the way you want outside of a French speaking country.

When I see it written with the accent, in my head I pronounce it correctly the French way, but in all honesty would probably still pronounce it on a day to day basis as [name]Melody[/name] without the M. Beautiful name, though. Really love.
