Elora

[name]Elora[/name] has been on my radar for a while now but I’ve recently decided I like it enough to actually use it.
Unfortunately, I’ll only ever be able to use it as a middle name as its far to similar my eldest DD’s name, [name]Elena[/name].

I have a few questions, though. Is [name]Elora[/name] an actual legit name? It doesn’t look tryndeigh to me, but I still worry about it appearing as a kre8iv variant of [name]Laura[/name].

I was thinking of using it with Amélie. [name]How[/name] does Amélie [name]Elora[/name] sound? Is it a little too princessy and frilly?

Thanks in advance for any feedback

When I hear “[name]Elora[/name]” I think of the movie [name]Willow[/name], which is not a negative association! It was my favorite flick in 6th-7th grade!

I don’t particularly like that pairing, simply because the end of the first name sort of “runs into” the beginning of the middle name, making it sound like “Amélialora.” I wonder if pairing with a first name ending in a consonant would avoid this? Since your other girls have three names, maybe you could squeeze another between Amélie and [name]Elora[/name]!

I looked up [name]Elora[/name] in my name books but only found it in one as an American diminutive of [name]Elnora[/name], which is entered as an American smoosh of [name]Ella[/name] and [name]Nora[/name]. I thought it was a variant of the Hebrew [name]Eliora[/name], which besides being lovely and unusual has a gorgeous meaning. Nameberry seems to agree but also offers other speculation on [name]Eleanor[/name].

Whatever the case, it seems to be a diminutive of any number of names so “actual legit name” is probably up for interpretation. Personally I don’t think it’s tryndeigh and I never would have thought of it in connection with [name]Laura[/name]. I would have gone looking in the direction of the multitude of E names popular now if I didn’t know about [name]Eliora[/name]. [name]Ella[/name], [name]Eleanor[/name], etc. would probably come to mind for most people. Which seems to make it timely and current, and on the other hand there’s something that “seems” classic about [name]Elora[/name].

It’s definitely close to your daughter’s name so mn is a good choice. It does run together with [name]Amelie[/name] though.

I like it a lot. I think you and I have very similar tastes  I think [name]Amelie[/name] [name]Elora[/name] is beautiful but from your list I think [name]Lydia[/name] [name]Elora[/name] would be even better. I agree with pp too that maybe another name in between them might make it a little better

What about Alora? [name]Ever[/name] so slightly different pronunciation, but incredibly close. It’s also different enough with the A at the beginning that I don’t think it looks as close to [name]Elena[/name] as [name]Elora[/name] does. I also think it just looks prettier with the A at both ends. I have a very soft spot for this name because while I was pregnant I had a dream where I told someone that was my daughter’s name. I even spelled it out in the dream. Funny thing was, until that dream I swear I’d never heard the name before (I was sure my subconscious had made it up). A quick google search confirmed it was real, and though it really grew on me, I’d already settled on my daughter’s name. Now I wonder if there’s a future daughter out there for me, and if Alora will be her name.

Also, there were 122 Eloras last year, and 162 Aloras, so I would definitely say it’s being used as a first. As for it being made-up: [name]Don[/name]'t all names have to start somewhere?

[name]LOVE[/name] [name]Elora[/name]! It’s definitely a legitimate name.

I’ve always heard that it was a Hebrew name, meaning “the [name]Lord[/name] is my light”… after a bit of research, I’ve discovered that [name]Elora[/name] is a form of [name]Eliora[/name], which means “the [name]Lord[/name] is my light”, but that [name]Elora[/name] could also come from a few other places, as well (a short form of [name]Eleanora[/name], or a respelling of Ellora, the name of a group of monastic caves in [name]India[/name] somewhere.

I know the cutest little girl named [name]Elora[/name]… she’s about four years old, and the cutest little imp I think I’ve ever seen, lol. Her big brother is [name]Clark[/name].

I think [name]Amelie[/name] [name]Elora[/name] is a bit frilly and over the top, but it is pretty. I think it’s hard to find a name on your list it flows with, since they all have prominent “L” sounds–[name]Clara[/name] [name]Elora[/name], [name]Amelie[/name] [name]Elora[/name], [name]Lyra[/name] [name]Elora[/name], [name]Camille[/name] [name]Elora[/name], [name]Rosalie[/name] [name]Elora[/name], [name]Lydia[/name] [name]Elora[/name], etc., are all either very rhymey or very “L” heavy. I despite its flow issues, I really like [name]Lyra[/name] [name]Elora[/name] and [name]Lydia[/name] [name]Elora[/name], though!

Good luck!

I love [name]Elora[/name]! But I do think it’s a little close to both [name]Elena[/name] and [name]Luna[/name] for a first name, but it might be cute as a middle. [name]Amelie[/name] [name]Elora[/name] is darling

[name]Love[/name] [name]Elora[/name], and I think [name]Amelie[/name] [name]Elora[/name] is just gorgeous!
