[name_m]Hi[/name_m] all,
What are your thoughts on the name [name_f]Elsabet[/name_f] (pronounced “ill-suh-bet”)? At first glance, what sort of origin might you guess it has (as in language/region of origin)? What sort of vibe does it give off? Is it different enough from [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] to feel fresh, or would you lump it in your head with other well-used classics?
Thanks in advance!
I love unusual [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] variants so this is up my street, I really like it! Much easier to say than the frilly [name_f]Lilibet[/name_f], less lispy than [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f], and you can easily get to some great nicknames like [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] or [name_f]Betty[/name_f].
I would probably assume it was a Scottish variant like [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f], [name_f]Isobel[/name_f], [name_f]Ishbel[/name_f] because it similarly misses out a syllable from [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. Either that or perhaps Scandinavian. Definitely feels like a fresh take and livens up the classic original!

[name_f]Elsabet[/name_f] is intriguing. I’d assume it has a Scandanavian origin? It gives me a sort of rugged, but sleek feel, cosy and warm but also strong and determined.

I think Elsabet is such a beautiful and interesting name! Definitely distinct enough from Elizabeth to feel fresh, fun and quirky.
I’d already heard of it and knew its origin Amharic but if I hadn’t, I would’ve assumed Scandinavian because of the “Elsa-“ start. It does seem like a name that would work well across many cultures and languages.

I love the name! I will say that my instinct is to pronounce it ell-suh-bet, not ill-suh-bet, because of the Elsa part, but both pronunciations are nice. I’d assume Germanic origin! It feels wintry and elegant, and definitely quite fresh!

I was coming to say the exact same thing! Elsabet is unusual but also quite international-sounding which is a really cool combination! I think it’s telling that several users would guess different origins in that it’s a name that could work across all of them.
I also just really enjoy the name! Like @persephonescrown I love all forms of Elizabeth, but especially the sweetly quirky ones. Elsabet is perfect and definitely perfect for your list!
