Elsie or Elsa?

[name]Hi[/name] again, after another few agonising days trying to name our daughter we think we’ve decided on [name]Elsie[/name] or [name]Elsa[/name]. Although annabel is still in the back of my mind!
Now we just need to decide on [name]Elsie[/name] [name]Faith[/name] or [name]Elsa[/name] [name]Faith[/name].
I love [name]Elsie[/name] but am worried it won’t sound grown up enough when she’s Older?
I figure [name]Elsa[/name] could be called [name]Elsie[/name] anyway.
My other dilemma is whether or not [name]Elsa[/name] is too similar sounding to her big brother [name]Oscar[/name]? He sometimes gets Oss/Osk for short and worried they’ll sound similar? What do you think?
Any feedback appreciated, this girl needs a name!

Personally, I prefer [name]Elsie[/name] just because [name]Elsa[/name] sounds a little too old. But [name]Elsa[/name] and [name]Oscar[/name] don’t seem too much alike, so I wouldn’t worry about that. But both are beautiful names!

Personally, I would go for [name]Elsie[/name] [name]Faith[/name]. It flows well with [name]Oscar[/name] and is a timeless classic.

I like [name]Elsa[/name] much better - it is so much more elegant. [name]Elsie[/name] always makes me think of a cow or a fat milkmaid.

I much prefer [name]Elsie[/name], I really don’t care for [name]Elsa[/name] much, [name]Elsie[/name] is quite sweet!

I would put the more formal [name]Elsa[/name] on her birth certificate and use the laidback [name]Elsie[/name] for her nn. At least, she’ll have a choice of which name to use when she grows into a mature woman. [name]Oscar[/name] and [name]Elsa[/name] are quite lovely together!

I think [name]Elsa[/name] [name]Faith[/name] flows much better and you can always make [name]Elsie[/name] her nn.
For me, [name]Elsie[/name] is more of an old lady name whereas [name]Elsa[/name]'s only image in my head comes from [name]Elsa[/name] the lion in [name]Born[/name] [name]Free[/name].

Personally, I think [name]Elsa[/name] - it has such an elegant tone. You can nickname her [name]Elsie[/name] but have [name]Elsa[/name] as a more formal version for her to fall back on as an adult if she chooses.

I’m torn. I really prefer [name]Elsie[/name] to [name]Elsa[/name], yet at the same time I find [name]Elsie[/name] just a a little too cutesy for a stand-alone name. Have you considered using [name]Elspeth[/name] nn [name]Elsie[/name]? I think an [name]Oscar[/name] and [name]Elspeth[/name] sibset would be adorable. I also think [name]Eloise[/name] nn [name]Elsie[/name] works.

I think that [name]Elsa[/name] is a much better pick. [name]Elsie[/name] could always be what you call her and what she goes by, but [name]Elsa[/name] is more sophisticated and could be taken more seriously. I think a lot of older people hear [name]Elsie[/name] and think of a cartoon cow- and [name]Elsa[/name], for me, I picture a beautiful [name]Isabella[/name] Rosselini type. I think it would be good to give her both options.

I like [name]Elsa[/name] more because when she grows up, she’ll have a nice mature name to go by at work, and she can be [name]Elsie[/name] whenever she wants. You get both names that way.

I prefer [name]Elsa[/name] to [name]Elsie[/name]. Have you considered [name]Elise[/name]?

I agree with the majority that [name]Elsa[/name] would be the best option with [name]Elsie[/name] as a nickname so that when she was an adult she could revert to [name]Elsa[/name] if she chose. Also she may prove to be more of an [name]Elsa[/name] than an [name]Elsie[/name] as her personality develops.

[name]Even[/name] though [name]Elsa[/name] is NMS, I would definitely go with that over [name]Elsie[/name], as [name]Elsa[/name] would age so much better. Or, like a previous poster mentioned, you could do [name]Elspeth[/name] with the nickname [name]Elsie[/name]. You can’t go wrong with [name]Elsa[/name] or [name]Elspeth[/name].

Thanks everyone. Have decided on [name]Elsa[/name], still a tiny bit worried it sounds too similar to [name]Oscar[/name], but we do love it. We’ll see how it feels for a day or so before we commit. Thanks again!

Although I prefer [name]Elsie[/name] to [name]Elsa[/name], I agree with the previous poster who suggested [name]Elsa[/name] on the birth certificiate and [name]Elsie[/name] as nn. It would eliminate your worry that [name]Elsie[/name] wouldn’t fit an adult, and you can let her choose in future!

I like [name]Elsa[/name] [name]Faith[/name] much better. I think [name]Oscar[/name] and [name]Elsa[/name] are just stunning together, and if you wanted, you can always fall back on the nn [name]Elsie[/name]. [name]Just[/name] [name]Elsie[/name] to me is very cutesy, and I can’t really imagine a grown woman being just [name]Elsie[/name]. I agree with @taz, too–[name]Elsa[/name] has a streamlined, sophisticated, lovely feel to it.

Good luck!

ETA: [name]Just[/name] saw that you’ve decided on [name]Elsa[/name]–congratulations! I think [name]Oscar[/name] and [name]Elsa[/name] will be lovely together, and aren’t too similar at all.

Honestly I think it doesn’t matter, and they seem the same to me. It kills me that ppl think [name]Sylvie[/name] is such a fresh name, it’s just [name]Sylvia[/name].

[name]Elsa[/name] makes me think of [name]Elsa[/name] Peretti the designer at [name]Tiffany[/name] so I like [name]Elsa[/name] better. It will look better on her college app to [name]Yale[/name]. You and everyone will call her [name]Elsie[/name] no matter what’s on the bc. I like both a lot!! [name]How[/name] bout [name]Elsa[/name] [name]Fate[/name]?
