Elysia

Is [name_f]Elysia[/name_f] pronounced like [name_f]Alyssia[/name_f] except eh instead of ah? Maybe this is a silly question, but someone told me it’s different and I’m stumped on the pronunciation as I really love the sound of [name_f]Alyssia[/name_f] but I like the [name_f]Elysia[/name_f] spelling better.

If so, which one do you prefer: [name_f]Alyssia[/name_f] or [name_f]Elysia[/name_f]?

Thanks!

I thought it was pronounced [name_f]El[/name_f]-ee-see-ah. [name_f]Alyssia[/name_f] to me would be ah-liss-ee-ah. Either way I prefer [name_f]Alessia[/name_f] (a-less-ee-ah)

I would say them eh-[name_u]LEE[/name_u]-see-uh, ah-[name_u]LEE[/name_u]-shah (the one [name_f]Alyssia[/name_f] I knew pronounced it this way), and ah-LESS-ee-ah respectively. I like [name_f]Elysia[/name_f] quite a lot, but I like [name_f]Elora[/name_f] and [name_f]Eliora[/name_f] more, which sort of have a similar feel to me.

I say eh-[name_u]LEE[/name_u]-see-uh for [name_f]Elysia[/name_f], due to there being on a single S - were it [name_f]Elyssia[/name_f], then it would be similar to [name_f]Alyssia[/name_f] for me, as eh-LISS-ee-uh.

Personally, I prefer [name_f]Elysia[/name_f] - it looks tidier and somehow is both whimsical and sophisticated.

I think there are variant pronunciations. The TA for one of my classes is named [name_f]Elysia[/name_f] and she says it kind of like eh-lee-shuh but I think eh-lee-see-uh is also a possibility. I like the [name_f]Elysia[/name_f] spelling better. [name_f]Alyssia[/name_f] looks like [name_f]Alyssa[/name_f] with an extra letter, but maybe that’s because I have known a lot of girls anmed [name_f]Alyssa[/name_f].

I would have said [name_f]Elysia[/name_f] as Ee-lye-zee-a but then I find “y"s in the English language (especially names” confusing.

I say it ee-lee-see-uh, and [name_f]Alessia[/name_f] ah-lee-see-ah. I guess there’s different pronunciations?

I love [name_f]Elysia[/name_f].

They pretty much sound the same when I say them: Eh-LEES-ee-uh. If I really trying to distinctly pronounce the difference between the E and the A, I’d say [name_f]El[/name_f]-eee-see-uh and Uh-leee-see-uh respectively.

I say [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]-[name_f]Zee[/name_f]-ah. I like it this way.

[name_f]Elyssia[/name_f] I would say [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]-See-[name_m]Ah[/name_m]

I actually went to school with a girl called [name_f]Elysia[/name_f]. She pronounced it [name_m]Ah[/name_m]-[name_u]Lee[/name_u]-sha, and she got quite annoyed when people mispronounced it ell-iss-see-uh.

Well, that’s because her family got pronunciation of her name wrong.

[name_f]Elysia[/name_f] is definitely Eh-lee-see-ah while [name_f]Alyssia[/name_f] would be [name_m]Ah[/name_m]-lesh-a. [name_f]Elysia[/name_f] is soo pretty!

I wouldn’t say it is wrong. There is more than one way to pronounce this name. I did some searching on this name when I found out my TA is named [name_f]Elysia[/name_f]. The -sha on the end is a legitimate pronunciation, most particularly used in Polish.

Thank you all.
