Ember has been one of my favorite girl names of all time. I like the meaning, sound, and general vibe of the name. What do you think of you? On Behind the Name, I’ve heard complain about it, saying it feels to “teen romance-y” I disagree, I find it feels more dystopian or fantastical. Thoughts?
To clarify, I think there is nothing wrong with the name [name_f]Ember[/name_f]. I think its a perfectly fine name. I just don’t care for it personally.
I probably would love the name [name_f]Ember[/name_f] (at one point I did), but it isn’t usable for me as it’s way to close to a cousin’s daughter’s name. I had to walk away from it so I only like it now. Who knows what it would be if my cousin hadn’t chosen a much too similar name.
Agreed! And I don’t even think I dislike it, per se. It just doesn’t draw me to it. I like [name_f]Emme[/name_f] or [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] much more; it’s just not my style.
I like it - if [name_f]Amber[/name_f] why not [name_f]Ember[/name_f]? I see the YA protagonist angle (echoes of [name_f]Cinder[/name_f] by [name_f]Marissa[/name_f] [name_m]Meyer[/name_m] perhaps!) and I also associate it with being a black cat name. But also wouldn’t mind at all hearing on a kid irl.
It does have YA novel vibes to me, but I still want to love it. What trips me up is [name_m]Terry[/name_m] Pratchett’s novel, Witches Abroad which has a [name_f]Cinderella[/name_f] spoof in the character of [name_f]Ember[/name_f] [name_f]Ella[/name_f] (the pun being “umbrella”). [name_f]Kind[/name_f] of random but it pops into my mind whenever I think of [name_f]Ember[/name_f] as a name!
