[name_f]Do[/name_f] you think [name_f]Emi[/name_f] (with this spelling) can function as a full name?
I wouldn’t really recommend this spelling over Emmy and Emmie, but can it function as a full name? Sure. I think someone called Emi would definitely run across some issues (the name never getting spelled correctly, maybe getting mispronounced, the similarity to “emu”?) but it’s definitely still usable!
Curious why you want to spell it this way over [name_f]Emmy[/name_f] or [name_f]Emmie[/name_f]?
I knew an [name_f]Emi[/name_f] (spelled like this). She was half Japanese and one of Emi’s origins is Japanese She seemed to be fine with it. Still, I do think [name_f]Emmy[/name_f] would be easier
I do think it depends where in the world you are. [name_f]My[/name_f] instinct would always be to spell it [name_f]Emmie[/name_f] or [name_f]Emmy[/name_f], and to assume it’s short for something, but that may not be true everywhere or for everyone! The main problem I imagine would be people assuming it’s short for [name_f]Emily[/name_f].
I think it’s fine as a full name. There are a few spellings for Emi/Emme/Emmy/Emmie so perhaps it often has to be spelled out but that happens with lots of names and even if you chose [name_f]Emmie[/name_f] she would still need to confirm whether it’s with ie or y.
We’re considering some variation of Emmy/Emmie/Emi. I can’t decide which spelling I prefer. We’d probably want to use it as a nickname, so we were considering [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] (Emi) or [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] (Emmy or [name_f]Emmie[/name_f] because I don’t like the [name_f]Emme[/name_f] spelling). We also like [name_f]Emma[/name_f] despite its popularity and might end up using [name_f]Emmy[/name_f] as a nickname for that as well, even though the names are the same length and [name_f]Em[/name_f] is the more obvious nickname.
I knew a girl named [name_f]Emi[/name_f] when I was growing up. She was Japanese (or at least her dad was; I’m not sure about her mom) and I believe the name is Japanese. I’m not sure if it was her full name or if it was short for [name_f]Emiko[/name_f], which is another Japanese name I’ve come across. She was a lovely person and I always liked her name. I think the name could stand alone as it did for her.
