I’d love to hear your thoughts on [name_m]Emilian[/name_m] for a boy?
It’s an honour name of sorts and would be a middle if we used it at all, but I think it’s such a beautiful name. Is there a reason why it’s so rarely heard in English-speaking countries?
I’ve never heard it before, but I don’t initially love it. Sounds like a strange variation of [name_f]Emily[/name_f] or chameleon. As a middle name it could work depending on the first and last names.
By honour name, do you mean it comes from a family member or is a variation of a family member’s name? If it’s a variation, what’s the original name?
I think [name_m]Emilian[/name_m] looks really handsome, but my first thought was chameleon. I can’t vouch for other places, but it doesn’t sound that great in my accent. It doesn’t feel weird to me somehow, I think because I’ve seen it a few times here on NB haha.
I really love [name_m]Emilian[/name_m]! I think it has the perfect aura around it, for me it isn’t too overwhelmingly masculine and I love that. [name_m]Emilian[/name_m] reminds me of a dewy forest in the morning so I also love the imagery! I think [name_m]Emilian[/name_m] is really handsome.
I love [name_m]Emilian[/name_m]! Never heard it before but is a lovely version of “[name_f]Amelia[/name_f]/[name_f]Emilia[/name_f]”. Could also work as a honour name for [name_f]Emily[/name_f] or [name_m]Emile[/name_m] and I didn’t think of chameleon.
Oh I love [name_m]Emilian[/name_m]! It’s classy and has this Euro-chic feel to it, and cute nicknames as well.
It didn’t bring to mind chameleon till I saw the other posters’ replies.
I like it. I also know a boy called [name_u]Emlyn[/name_u] ([name_m]Emilian[/name_m] must be a related name as they both mean ‘rival’ despite [name_u]Emlyn[/name_u] being Welsh and [name_m]Emilian[/name_m] being Slavic).
I like [name_m]Emilian[/name_m]. It’s familiar, but unique. Never got any “chameleon” associations. I have Emilios and Emilias in my family tree, so [name_m]Emilian[/name_m] doesn’t come across as strange to me at all. I’ve actually been really into [name_m]Emiliano[/name_m] lately.
Maybe its lack of popularity comes from the huge popularity of [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] and [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]. It doesn’t have much exposure in art or media, so it’s probably just overshadowed by similar names. There’s [name_u]Emmett[/name_u] and [name_u]Emery[/name_u], so not many people would consider [name_m]Emilian[/name_m].
[name_m]Emilian[/name_m] is so handsome! I’ve been a fan of the name [name_m]Emil[/name_m]/[name_m]Emile[/name_m] since I was younger and first heard it thanks to actor [name_m]Emile[/name_m] [name_m]Hirsch[/name_m].
I think I actually like [name_m]Emilian[/name_m] more though. It’s so sweet and strong, but also soft. Definitely love the vibes it gives off.
While I think it might be more difficult to make it work as a first, I think it’s perfect as a middle! I also like that it has meaning for you.
[name_m]Emilian[/name_m] feels classy and sweet. It gives me warm vibes, I like it a lot. It would make for a great middle name, and I like that it honors for you as well.
[name_m]Emilian[/name_m] goes off and on my list constantly. I adore it! I pretty much love all the “[name_m]Emil[/name_m]” boy names - [name_m]Emile[/name_m] / [name_m]Emil[/name_m], [name_m]Emilio[/name_m], [name_m]Emiliano[/name_m], [name_m]Emilian[/name_m], & Émilien! [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] and [name_f]Emily[/name_f] have gotten so much attention while the male versions have not caught on (in the US that is). I think it’s beautiful name that deserves more attention!
I’ve never seen it before but I like it! I would say it’s my favourite of the [name_m]Emil[/name_m]- names for boys. There’s something so classy and fresh about it!
Thank you all, I’m glad there’s some love for [name_m]Emilian[/name_m] after all!
I totally agree that it’s got a soft, strong, Euro-chic vibe to it, and I love that it’s a little bit more androgynous than most currently popular boys’ names in English-speaking countries at the moment. Kind of like a lesser-heard alternative to [name_m]Julian[/name_m], [name_m]Adrian[/name_m], [name_u]Florian[/name_u] et al.
[name_m]Emilian[/name_m] is a lovely, gentlemanly choice that would fit in and stand out at the same time. I would pronounce it “eh-[name_f]MIL[/name_f]-ee-un” rather than “em-EE-lee-un”, but that’s possibly just me? I know an Émilien so the name doesn’t seem strange to me at all.
