Emmeline or Emmaline? Prn Emma-LINE

[name]How[/name] would you choose to spell this name? [name]Emmeline[/name] or [name]Emmaline[/name]?

[name]Emmaline[/name] is the spelling that has charted on the U.S. Social Security list, but [name]Emmeline[/name] is considered the original spelling.

I am prn it [name]Emma[/name]-[name]LINE[/name], and I live in the midwest. I am thinking when ppl hear it, they are going to automatically think [name]EmmAline[/name] bc of the way it sounds and bc it’s not a name heard much. [name]Do[/name] you think I’m incorrect in thinking this?

Anway, what do you think? Is [name]Emmaline[/name] an acceptable way or does it look trendy?

[name]TIA[/name]!

I personally prefer [name]Emmeline[/name] (it looks more streamlined and pretty to me), but I say [name]Emmeline[/name] like “emma-leen”. I think [name]Emmaline[/name] looks more like it would get [name]Emma[/name]-line. I’m not sure why. I do think [name]Emmaline[/name] is definitely legitimate, though, and usable.

I pronounce [name]Emmeline[/name] with the “leen” sound so I think [name]Emmaline[/name] would be your best option for the “line” pronunciation.

If you want [name]Emma[/name]-line, I’d go with [name]Emmaline[/name]. Because to me [name]Emmeline[/name] is pn Emm-ih/eh-line

[name]Emmeline[/name]. Stick with tradition.

I say [name]Emmeline[/name] like [name]Emma[/name]-[name]LINE[/name] not [name]Emma[/name]-LEEN. I would stick with [name]Emmeline[/name] unless you really want [name]Emmaline[/name].

I say [name]Emmeline[/name] the way you do, and it’s by far my preferred spelling. I mean, sure, use [name]Emmaline[/name] and you’ll be fine - it spells out (literally!) the way you want the name to be pronounced. But, I’d say give your friends, family, neighbors, and peers a chance and use traditional [name]Emmeline[/name]. They’ll catch on before you know it!

Best of luck.

[name]Emmeline[/name]! [name]Love[/name]

I’d go [name]Emmeline[/name]. Some people will need to be corrected either way, honestly. It would bug me more to sacrifice the pretty spelling and STILL have to tell people how to say it.

to me [name]Emmeline[/name] just looks prettier than [name]Emmaline[/name]. I too pronounce [name]Emmeline[/name] (emma-line as you do) and like the above poster said people will probably need to be corrected either way. The good thing is its not a name that will need to be constantly repronounced once someone heres it they know it and its easy to remember and pretty straight forward. I love this name too…its on the verge on being added to my list…oh heck i added it last night

I prefer [name]Emmeline[/name]. More exotic and stunning.

Thank you everyone for your thoughts and suggestions!

I really love the name, and I do like the spelling [name]Emmeline[/name]. I usually am not one to go away from the traditional spelling of a name just to get what I want, but since it seems as if [name]Emmaline[/name] is an accepted spelling, it makes it a little easier for me to consider.

I have been all over the board with the poor baby girl’s name. I’m so frustrated and can’t understand why I just can’t commit to one dang name, already!

Dh and I have discussed [name]Emmeline[/name]/[name]Emmaline[/name], [name]Chloe[/name], [name]Beatrice[/name], [name]Adelaide[/name], [name]Emma[/name], [name]Penelope[/name], etc, but nothing is making me feel an attachment! This is my 6th and last baby, and I am going on 29 weeks. I would love to make a decision already!

Another vote for [name]Emmeline[/name]. I also like [name]Adelaide[/name] and [name]Penelope[/name] from your list. What are your other children named?

[name]Just[/name] wanted to update and say, dh, the kids, and I have decided to go with [name]Emmeline[/name]! I’m still a little nervous about spelling/prn issues, but when it came down to it, the kids said they liked it the best, so I’m going with it!

Thanks for your thoughts and feedback!

[name]Emmeline[/name] is a lovely name and I think the prettiest spelling. Congratulations!

I personally tend toward [name_f]Emmaline[/name_f]. It’s such a pretty name

I live in the Northeast and pronounce it em-mih-line. I [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] this name, and prefer it spelled [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f].

I also pronounce it [name_f]Em[/name_f]-uh-line. Where I live we all seem to pronounce things phonetically so that was always the natural pronunciation for me. Plus I know a little [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] whose parents used the -line ending, I just think its lovely, and make so much sense to me. Especially with names like [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] ending the same. [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] is my preferred spelling, I liked the character in The [name_u]Blue[/name_u] Lagoon, it’s just sweet and so pretty!

Beautiful name  and a great choice of nicknames [name_f]Em[/name_f], [name_f]Emmy[/name_f], [name_f]Emme[/name_f] etc
