[name_f]Emery[/name_f] unfortunately seems to have gone over to the girl’s side. Is it still useable?

[name_f][/name_f]Which do you prefer?
[name_f]Emery[/name_f] is unisex to me, but I do find [name_m]Emrys[/name_m] a lot more dashing, and I like its nicknames more as well!
I prefer [name_m]Emrys[/name_m] because of the mythological feel. [name_f]Emery[/name_f] has always seemed a strange one to me because I just think of the nail file boards [name_f][/name_f]- maybe they aren’t called that everywhere though!
I know that emory is the spelling for the filing boards, but I always just call them nail files.
[name_f][/name_f] I don’t how commonplace it is to call them “emory boards” instead of “files/nail files.”
I know as many boy Emery’s as girl ones! [name_f][/name_f] [name_f]So[/name_f] it doesn’t feel like it’s completely gone to the girls, although [name_f]Emery[/name_f] does feel more feminine than [name_m]Emory[/name_m] for some reason. [name_f][/name_f] I’m not a fan of [name_m]Emrys[/name_m] myself—I prefer [name_m]Emerson[/name_m] most, but [name_m]Emory[/name_m] is very handsome too! [name_f][/name_f] I would pick [name_f]Emery[/name_f] myself.
[name_f][/name_f]Good luck!
Yes, Emery is still usable on a boy. It is okay for boys and girls to share names. I don’t know why we say things like “gone over to the girls’ side” as though Emery has joined the Sith or the Death Eaters.
Emery is still in the Top 1000 for boys - though it is 10x more popular for girls (302 boys vs. 3197 girls) - but I think it’s usable.
I just like magical Emrys a bit more (Emrys is in fact more popular in the UK than Emery though
)
I like both of them.
Emery is unisex but so are a lot of names and we don’t mind so much when girls have unisex-masc names do it shouldn’t matter if boys have unisex-fem names. Either way, I still see Emery as unisex-masc, on how it sounds and looks. Emory would make it even clearer that it’s for a boy - if the Emory board association doesn’t bother you (I don’t think it’s a big association these days).
I prefer Emrys though, because of its relationship to Ambrose (and legendary immortality) and general Celtic coolness. It has something more tailored and confident about it. I’d say, Emery sounds more friendly and approachable.
Another name you might like is Evren.- and of course, there’s Everett, Ellis, Rhys & Remy.
I don’t think [name_m]Emery[/name_m] being used for girls stops it from being usable on a boy. There were still over 300 baby boys named Emery in 2024, and I don’t think everyone would automatically assume that an Emery was female.
I think they’re both great names but have slightly different vibes - Emery feels playful and sweet while Emrys seems more mysterious and cool.
[name_m]Emrys[/name_m]!
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Emery[/name_f] feels unisex to me, I still think it works on a boy! I would probably prefer it on a boy personally. I just love [name_m]Emrys[/name_m] ![]()
I like the softness of [name_f]Emery[/name_f], but I like the history and mythical-ness of [name_m]Emrys[/name_m].
[name_f]Emery[/name_f] is still usable I just prefer [name_m]Emrys[/name_m] ![]()
[name_m]Emrys[/name_m] for sure!!
