I have been a long-time lurker, but only recently created an account now that I am pregnant with a little man. My SO and I can’t seem to find a name we both agree on. They enjoy more common names, such as [name_u]Charlie[/name_u]. I do enjoy [name_u]Charlie[/name_u], but I want something that has a magical, one-of-the-kind element to it. Where our little one would definitely not have to go by his last initial. We both agree that we enjoy unisex names, specifically ones that lean a little more towards male. I don’t like word names either, since I grew up with a word name and I hated it.
After many searching without anything that feels…right…we figured we would turn to the baby name experts.

I just wanted to add that I can completely relate to the situation where you and your SO have completely different name styles! I’m facing that too, although we haven’t had a chance to name a child yet. My style of names is like the names in my signature, his style is [name_f]Annie[/name_f], [name_m]Charles[/name_m], [name_m]Luke[/name_m], [name_u]Brooke[/name_u], almost anything common and classic!

I love [name_m]Bartolomeo[/name_m]. What about just Tolomeo? Which I think is just one of the very coolest sounding and looking names around. It’s an Italian variation on [name_m]Ptolemy[/name_m].
I second [name_m]Nicodemus[/name_m], nn [name_u]Nico[/name_u]. I think that’s a great compromise between your two styles. Perhaps [name_m]Nicodem[/name_m] or Nicodeme would be even more “enchanted.”
With [name_m]Salvador[/name_m] on the table, do you also like [name_m]Ferdinand[/name_m]? [name_m]Ferdinand[/name_m] is so adventurous and magical to me (a la [name_f]Tempest[/name_f]). [name_m]Vidal[/name_m] or [name_m]Vidale[/name_m] or [name_m]Videlio[/name_m]?
[name_m]Lysander[/name_m] nn [name_m]Xander[/name_m] or even [name_u]Sasha[/name_u]… I haven’t seen that done and it may be more of a stretch than some, but in my book [name_m]Lysander[/name_m] could be stretched to [name_u]Sasha[/name_u], which would still give it the unisex vibe, too.

But [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] on it’s own has a lot of history, is unisex leaning towards male with a lovely meaning of kind hearted and good natured.
I’ve loved [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] ever since watching The Age of [name_f]Adeline[/name_f]. The man she falls in love with is [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] [name_m]Jones[/name_m] - charming, intelligent, handsome…totally made the name [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] for me!
