I’m due in 4 (!) weeks with our little boy. We (sort of) have a Top 3 and are now moving on to the middles. The first in line is my darling [name_m]Endymion[/name_m].
[name_m]Endymion[/name_m] is very starry to me: dark velvet skies, bright moon, hundreds of constellations slowly waltzing around. He’s peaceful, he’s graceful, he’s calm, happy and beautiful like an angel. Big blue eyes, pretty smile and [name_m]Robert[/name_m] Plant-esque golden curls (our LO is very likely to have blue eyes and blonde curls).
Some middles I like with [name_m]Endymion[/name_m]:
[name_m]Ambrose[/name_m]
[name_m]Hector[/name_m]
Faramir
St [name_m]John[/name_m]
[name_u]Valentine[/name_u]
[name_u]Orion[/name_u]
[name_m]Casimir[/name_m]
[name_m]Anatole[/name_m]
[name_u]Ever[/name_u]
[name_m]Orlando[/name_m]
[name_m]Balthazar[/name_m]
[name_m]Atlas[/name_m]
[name_m]Horatio[/name_m]
Astraeus
[name_f]Marinell[/name_f]
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m]
[name_m]Pascal[/name_m]
[name_m]Leo[/name_m]
[name_m]Archer[/name_m]
[name_u]Noel[/name_u]
[name_m]Cosmo[/name_m]
[name_m]Endymion[/name_m] [name_m]Horatio[/name_m] [name_u]Noel[/name_u], [name_m]Endymion[/name_m] [name_m]Atlas[/name_m] St [name_m]John[/name_m], [name_m]Endymion[/name_m] [name_m]Leo[/name_m] [name_f]Marinell[/name_f], [name_m]Endymion[/name_m] [name_m]Cosmo[/name_m] [name_m]Anatole[/name_m]…We want to do two middles, one “normal” + one quirky. We’re open to suggestions, word names would be especially great but not necessary. I can’t wait to see what you come up with!
I love the way [name_m]Cosmo[/name_m] [name_m]Archer[/name_m]/[name_m]Archer[/name_m] [name_m]Cosmo[/name_m] evokes [name_u]Orion[/name_u] without actually being the name [name_u]Orion[/name_u]. Fascinating list!
I quite like the combo of [name_m]Atlas[/name_m] St. [name_m]John[/name_m]!
Some other combos from your list:
[name_m]Endymion[/name_m] [name_m]Hector[/name_m] Astraeus
[name_m]Endymion[/name_m] [name_m]Hector[/name_m] [name_m]Casimir[/name_m]
[name_m]Endymion[/name_m] [name_m]Orlando[/name_m] [name_m]Pascal[/name_m]
[name_m]Endymion[/name_m] [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_m]Cosmo[/name_m]
[name_m]Endymion[/name_m] [name_m]Balthazar[/name_m] [name_m]Leo[/name_m]
[name_m]Endymion[/name_m] [name_m]Casimir[/name_m] [name_u]Valentine[/name_u]
Seconding [name_m]Endymion[/name_m] [name_m]Anatole[/name_m] [name_u]Noel[/name_u] and [name_m]Endymion[/name_m] [name_m]Horatio[/name_m] [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m]!
With a name not from your list:
[name_m]Endymion[/name_m] [name_m]Horatio[/name_m] [name_u]Penrose[/name_u]
[name_m]Endymion[/name_m] Larkspur St. [name_m]John[/name_m]
[name_m]Endymion[/name_m] Larkspur Astraeus
[name_m]Endymion[/name_m] [name_u]Rigel[/name_u] Astraeus
[name_m]Endymion[/name_m] [name_u]Rigel[/name_u] [name_f]Marinell[/name_f]
mom3; [name_m]Endymion[/name_m] [name_m]Leo[/name_m] [name_u]Valentine[/name_u] is very sweet and soft!
renee seance; I love [name_m]Endymion[/name_m] [name_m]Leo[/name_m] [name_m]Balthazar[/name_m] and [name_m]Endymion[/name_m] [name_m]Horatio[/name_m] [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] - I really like the idea of [name_m]Horatio[/name_m] [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m]!
[name_f]Gwen[/name_f]; Thank you so much! [name_m]Cosmo[/name_m] [name_m]Archer[/name_m] is pretty brilliant - great idea! It’s definitely very [name_u]Orion[/name_u]. I also love [name_m]Orlando[/name_m] [name_m]Pascal[/name_m], [name_m]Leo[/name_m] Faramir and [name_m]Forest[/name_m] [name_m]Anatole[/name_m] combos - I feel like F names sound good with [name_m]Endymion[/name_m].
sorceress; I have never considered [name_m]Dimitri[/name_m]/[name_m]Dmitry[/name_m] before even though I’m Ukrainian, can you believe that? [name_m]Endymion[/name_m] [name_m]Dmitry[/name_m] [name_m]Atlas[/name_m] is so great.
gia.berry; [name_m]Endymion[/name_m] [name_m]Hector[/name_m] Astraeus, [name_m]Endymion[/name_m] Faramir [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] and [name_m]Endymion[/name_m] [name_m]Horatio[/name_m] St. [name_m]John[/name_m] are fantastic combos! I especially like [name_m]Endymion[/name_m] [name_m]Hector[/name_m] Astraeus - it sounds very sexy!
brittanyanitarose; [name_m]Endymion[/name_m] [name_m]Orlando[/name_m] [name_m]Pascal[/name_m] is so magical! Sounds like [name_m]Merlin[/name_m]'s sidekick, no less. I also love [name_m]Endymion[/name_m] [name_m]Balthazar[/name_m] [name_m]Leo[/name_m], [name_m]Endymion[/name_m] [name_m]Casimir[/name_m] [name_u]Valentine[/name_u], [name_m]Endymion[/name_m] [name_m]Horatio[/name_m] [name_u]Penrose[/name_u] and [name_m]Endymion[/name_m] Larkspur St [name_m]John[/name_m] - I would never have thought of Larkspur myself but I really like it!
I would not use [name_u]Orion[/name_u] after [name_m]Endymion[/name_m]. [name_f]Marinell[/name_f] sounds too feminine and not as “dark”, same for [name_u]Valentine[/name_u], it is just too feminine in my mind, and I would not use St. [name_m]John[/name_m]. My favorites after [name_m]Endymion[/name_m] are [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m], [name_m]Hector[/name_m], Faramir, [name_u]Ever[/name_u], [name_m]Horatio[/name_m], Astraeus, [name_m]Theodore[/name_m], [name_m]Leo[/name_m], [name_m]Archer[/name_m] and [name_m]Cosmo[/name_m]. I can really see the “dark velvet skies, bright moon, hundreds of constellations slowly waltzing around” with these names.
Thanks mccharlie! Interesting point about [name_f]Marinell[/name_f] - he was one of the knights in The Faerie Queene, so very masculine to me, but now that I think of it, he was the knight of the sea, not of the sky. I agree it’s probably not the best fit. I don’t like [name_m]Endymion[/name_m] [name_u]Orion[/name_u] ___ but I can definitely see [name_m]Endymion[/name_m] ___ [name_u]Orion[/name_u]…And what’s wronh with St [name_m]John[/name_m]? You don’t like the St part? Hmm…Thanks for giving me food for thought!
[name_m]Endymion[/name_m] [name_m]Casimir[/name_m] [name_m]Atlas[/name_m] and [name_m]Endymion[/name_m] [name_m]Anatole[/name_m] [name_u]Orion[/name_u] are my favorites, congratulations with the little one
Oh my stars! [name_m]Endymion[/name_m] is super handsome and yes, that imagery you described, truly enchanting! So glad someone brave is willing to use such an awesome name!
As for middles: I really loved the idea of [name_m]Endymion[/name_m] [name_m]Atlas[/name_m] and [name_m]Endymion[/name_m] [name_m]Atlas[/name_m] [name_m]Casimir[/name_m] really struck me as gorgeous and strong, while maintaining the imagery you described. I also think [name_m]Endymion[/name_m] [name_m]Atlas[/name_m] Faramir and [name_m]Endymion[/name_m] [name_m]Atlas[/name_m] [name_m]Hector[/name_m] are lovely. For a long time I disliked the name [name_m]Hector[/name_m] because of the heck part, but now I’m really crushing on it. I’ve started watching a series on Netflix called [name_m]Troy[/name_m]: [name_f]Fallen[/name_f] City and [name_m]Hector[/name_m] is a sweetheart, although initially a hard shell to crack. [name_f]Every[/name_f] single book I’ve read (other than the Iliad itself) about the Trojan War have a wonderful, sweet, brave and big hearted [name_m]Prince[/name_m] [name_m]Hector[/name_m], so I really like that. You have to be really brave to go into a duel with [name_m]Achilles[/name_m] Also, Achillles! Have you considered it? [name_m]Endymion[/name_m] [name_m]Achilles[/name_m] [name_m]Leo[/name_m] or [name_m]Endymion[/name_m] [name_m]Achilles[/name_m] [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] would be amazing.
I’m really excited for the birth/name announcement of this baby!
I’m feeling [name_m]Endymion[/name_m] with names ending with o apparently…
[name_m]Endymion[/name_m] [name_m]Horatio[/name_m] [name_u]Noel[/name_u] is nice too btw and I like [name_m]Endymion[/name_m] [name_m]Atlas[/name_m] St [name_m]John[/name_m].
Out of interest, how are your pronouncing St [name_m]John[/name_m]? Sin-jun like in Jane Eyre or more like Sunt-[name_m]Jon[/name_m] or something else??
Oh, I absolutely love [name_m]Endymion[/name_m] for you. It really just couldn’t be more perfect with [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f], and the celestial imagery you describe is so dreamy and powerful.
From the names you list in your original post, I really like [name_m]Endymion[/name_m] [name_m]Cosmo[/name_m] [name_m]Anatole[/name_m].
I also think [name_m]Horatio[/name_m], [name_m]Hector[/name_m], and Casamir sounds fabulous following [name_m]Endymion[/name_m]:
[name_m]Endymion[/name_m] [name_m]Horatio[/name_m] [name_m]Pascal[/name_m]
[name_m]Endymion[/name_m] [name_m]Horatio[/name_m] [name_m]Gawain[/name_m]
[name_m]Endymion[/name_m] [name_m]Horatio[/name_m] [name_m]Altair[/name_m]
elifsu; Thanks, lovely! [name_m]Casimir[/name_m] and [name_m]Atlas[/name_m] sounds great together, smooth and silvery.
cerulean; Thanks, we love [name_m]Apollo[/name_m]!
lovelace; Awww, you are making me blush! Thanks, you are the kindest.
Actually, [name_m]Endymion[/name_m] is probably the least adventurous from our choices, but I understand why it can be seen as brave. I love [name_m]Endymion[/name_m] [name_m]Atlas[/name_m], too - [name_m]Endymion[/name_m] [name_m]Atlas[/name_m] Faramir is so fab! [name_m]Hector[/name_m] and (!) [name_m]Achilles[/name_m] are so closely tied, there is only place for one…I guess I will have to discuss these two with my husband. I can’t decide!
greyblue; Thanks, I love the idea of [name_m]Endymion[/name_m] [name_m]Orlando[/name_m]! So spunky and passionate and masculine. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think [name_m]Orlando[/name_m] is okay to use? I love it but it might remind some people of The City of [name_m]Orlando[/name_m] and the shooting, I don’t want that. As for St [name_m]John[/name_m], we pronounce it the [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Eyre[/name_f] way, sin-jun, I’ve never heard of any other pronunciations, to be honest…
raptreverie; Thank you thank you thank you! I love [name_m]Endymion[/name_m] with [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f], too. [name_m]Endymion[/name_m] [name_m]Horatio[/name_m] [name_m]Gawain[/name_m] and [name_m]Endymion[/name_m] [name_m]Hector[/name_m] [name_m]Anatole[/name_m] are so great! [name_m]Endymion[/name_m] [name_m]Galileo[/name_m] [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] is also something to consider.
silversky109; I really like [name_m]Endymion[/name_m] [name_m]Leo[/name_m] Astraeus!
kendelbell; [name_f]Glad[/name_f] I was able to introduce you to [name_m]Endymion[/name_m]! I love Greek names, too. [name_m]Endymion[/name_m] [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] [name_u]Noel[/name_u] is gooooood.
