Ends in -et, -ett or -ette (or similar)

I have had these four on my list off and on:

  • [name]Bridget[/name]
  • [name]Juliet[/name]
  • [name]Scarlett[/name]
  • [name]Violet[/name]

I like how the ending works with my last name (the distinct ending helps the soft starting sound). Of the three, I think like [name]Bridget[/name] and [name]Juliet[/name] the most, I think because they are softer. I hate the nn “[name]Bridge[/name]”… what nicknames would you use with [name]Bridget[/name]?

Are there any other names with this ending that I’m missing?

I’m interested in any comments you berries would have about any of the names–thanks!

I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Violet[/name]! [name]Scarlett[/name] is OK, but it’s not something which jumps out at me. I quite like [name]Juliet[/name], but I can see it becoming very popular. [name]Bridget[/name] is actually very close to becoming a favourite of mine. I know a little girl named [name]Bridget[/name] who goes by ‘Iddie’ which is so cute. ‘[name]Biddy[/name]’ could work too, but maybe that’s a bit too Great Expectations

What about:
[name]Harriet[/name]?
[name]Margaret[/name]?
[name]Odette[/name]?

I love [name]Margaret[/name] with the nickname ‘[name]Margo[/name]’. [name]Harriet[/name] is pretty too, and I’m surprised it isn’t more popular.

T’s are such nice endings, aren’t they? I wish there were more : D!

Hmm, for [name]Bridget[/name], besides [name]Bridge[/name], I know I’ve read [name]Bridie[/name]. I guess anything [name]Ettie[/name]/[name]Etta[/name] too.

I prefer [name]Juliet[/name] and [name]Violet[/name] over [name]Scarlett[/name]. [name]Scarlett[/name] is a great name, but I find it gets lots of negative reactions on here (not universal or anything).

I agree with pp on loving [name]Margaret[/name] nn [name]Margo[/name]. I like [name]Harriet[/name] pretty well, but I wouldn’t call it a true fave of mine. The [name]Harry[/name]/hairy thing is a little hard for me, and I imagine I’m not alone.

Then we get into less familiar territory, and / or dated…there are more – I recommend you search nameberry’s advanced search by the endings, but some that I think are the most accessible I went and wrote down (PS a few aren’t from here, but I’ve seen them elsewhere). All best!

Yariset/Yasiret (a variant of [name]Yaritza[/name], I think – one I’ve heard in the world once in each form, not seen much on websites)

The “t” endings are lovely. [name]Bridget[/name] has captured my attention today: I’m thinking [name]Brie[/name] or [name]Bridie[/name] would be OK as nicknames, but simple, 2 syllable [name]Bridget[/name] is easy too. Still interested in any other nicknames.

As far as the other names suggested, [name]Margaret[/name]/[name]Margot[/name] is too close to my daughter’s name, but I do like it. The only other one that I liked was [name]Lilibet[/name]; however, I’m a bit afraid she’ll be lumped in with all the [name]Lily[/name]'s out there (a lot in my area).

I did look up the “et” ending in the advanced Nameberry search, and they were too ‘out there’ for me. I walk the delicate line between wanting to have heard of it before, but not know anyone with the name.

Thanks for your insight!

Id say you picked the best out of the bunch. All of those have been on my lists from time to time.
[name]Just[/name] wanted to add [name]CHARLOTTE[/name]!!
nn for [name]Bridget[/name]? My first guess would be [name]Bri[/name]?

I love all your names ([name]Bridget[/name], [name]Juliet[/name] and [name]Violet[/name]) except [name]Scarlett[/name] which I would never name any girl (eg. scarlet woman, scarlet fever). [name]Bridget[/name] is a great Irish saint name with cute nn’s [name]Bride[/name], [name]Bridie[/name], [name]Bree[/name], [name]Britt[/name] and my fave [name]Birdie[/name]! PP’s have made some great suggestions. Good luck!

[name]Glad[/name] they’re appreciated : D! Yes, most of them are pretty odd…I do like some though. [name]Vidette[/name] in particular just has such spark to my ear. I’d personally consider it only for middle though. [name]Charlotte[/name] came to my mind as pp suggested, I do think it’s beautiful, but I wondered if you were avoiding trendy (like [name]Lily[/name] with [name]Lilibet[/name] - I do think [name]Lilibet[/name] could be [name]Betty[/name] or [name]Betsey[/name] or [name]Ettie[/name] or [name]Etta[/name], if you like those). All best!

[name]Hi[/name] just commenting because I have a [name]Brigid[/name]/[name]Bridget[/name] (she changed the spelling to the more conventional for school reasons; be warned ye who give your children artsy names I guess. haha)
We call her [name]Bridie[/name] now, but when she was little she went by [name]Birdie[/name] sometimes, if you like that?

[name]Love[/name] [name]Harriet[/name] as well, from your names.
After that [name]Juliet[/name], which I agree is slightly softer (and [name]Jules[/name] is a cool nn!)
[name]Scarlett[/name] I really dislike. It feels slightly brazen to me or something? [name]Just[/name] imo though.

[name]Hope[/name] this helps! X

Thanks for the thoughts on these names. I like [name]Charlotte[/name], but I think it is popular now and that turns me off.

I am liking [name]Bridget[/name] but DH made the ‘ugh’ face when I told him, so that doesn’t bode well. Arrrggh, it’s going on my list and the quest continues… I just have to keep telling myself that a month from now, she’ll be “out” and named and we won’t be able to imagine her with any other name!

Ohhh, I love names that end in -et, -ett, -ette, and -ott(e)! I just discovered this the other day. haha. From your list, I loveee [name]Violet[/name] and like [name]Bridget[/name]. I like [name]Juliet[/name], but don’t love it. [name]Scarlett[/name] I really dislike personally, sorry.

Besides the nns already suggested, I don’t really have another idea for [name]Bridget[/name], sorry.

Some of the names in this category I love are [name]Ayelet[/name], Adalet, [name]Lisette[/name], [name]Juliet[/name], [name]Violet[/name], Evolet, [name]Charlotte[/name], Hannelotte, Joliet, [name]Annette[/name], [name]Odette[/name]… I also love [name]Bennett[/name], [name]Beckett[/name], [name]Everett[/name], [name]Abbott[/name], [name]Elliot[/name], Truett, etc., for a boy!

Good luck!

I saw this name in an interview on TV. Never heard it before and I think its lovely. Lolette.
