I saw the first name “Ephe” on a gravestone at a cemetery recently and found it interesting. [name_f]My[/name_f] boyfriend seemed pretty sure that it’s pronounced “[name_f]Effie[/name_f].” I can’t find much evidence of this online, so I was just wondering if anyone had seen this spelling before or had any more insight on the name. Thank you!
Maybe it’s related to [name_m]Ephraim[/name_m]? That’s my first thought, like a nickname or variant!
Never head the spelling before but it reminds me of a Greek name like Ephea and Epha? Too me it’s most likely a variation of these greek names? I can also see it as and [name_f]Effie[/name_f] like your boyfriend but I read that as more of a “Umph” while I was casually skimming
At first sight, I would pronounce it [name_f]Effie[/name_f] or [name_f]Effa[/name_f], but I know nothing about the name!
My first thought was the Turkish name [name_m]Efe[/name_m]. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you know whether the person was male or female?
I have no clue. There was no other indication from the grave. I wish I knew!
Maybe EE-PHA?
I think Ephe is actually an unisex name and maybe a spelling variant of the Turkish [name_m]Efe[/name_m] (like @katinka mentioned)
I’m also quite sure it’s pronounced [name_f]Effie[/name_f].
Maybe a failed attempt to make [name_f]Aoife[/name_f] “easier”?
