"er" sound for first and last name

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] all! [name_f]My[/name_f] husband and I really like the name [name_u]River[/name_u] for a boy because we fish a lot, have land on a river and are avid nature lovers. However, our last name is [name_m]Grover[/name_m]. Does [name_u]River[/name_u] [name_m]Grover[/name_m] sound two rhyme-y and we should avoid?

hi! congrats :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:
awww river! my fav name ever
my first thought was musician roger glover, and i don’t think his whole name sounds too rhyme-y. i actually think that’s cute. however, i think the issue here is that both end in -ver not only -er. maybe could work better with a middle name. but anyway, if you really love it go for it! you’ll regret it is you feel the name is the one and you don’t use it. plus, i think most people are probably not gonna notice that

Thanks, I think that’s what bothers me–the ver is maybe a little too much unfortunately. [name_f]My[/name_f] maiden name is [name_u]Holland[/name_u] and that would have sounded great, bummer.

[name_u]River[/name_u] [name_m]Grover[/name_m] isn’t ideal but fine in my opinion

If you like [name_u]River[/name_u], I say go for it. It is a bit matchy, but not too much so in my opinion.

I also agree with vida’s comment on [name_u]Rio[/name_u] [name_m]Grover[/name_m] sounding fantastic.

I don’t think it’s a huge dealbreaker! Kind of gives me Peter Parker vibes, and I never saw a problem with that name!

The only difference is that it’s not just the “er” sound that rhymes in River Grover. It’s the entire last syllable “ver” … so it’s more noticeable.

I’m sorry, I really like [name_u]River[/name_u], but [name_u]River[/name_u] [name_m]Grover[/name_m] sounds too matchy to me. The combination of the two syllables with the same syllable stressed + the “-ver” ending puts me off it.

I like the [name_u]Rio[/name_u] suggestion above, or I also thought of [name_u]Rhett[/name_u]?

Could you double barrel? [name_u]River[/name_u] Holland-Grover

It’s tough, [name_u]River[/name_u] [name_m]Grover[/name_m] sounds like an occupation, like Oyster Shucker. [name_u]River[/name_u] is a beautiful name though!

I think it’s much too similar unfortunately. [name_u]River[/name_u] Holland-Grover though would be brilliant! I also like the suggestion of [name_u]Rio[/name_u].

Yeah that was my fear and definitely don’t want our kid mocked growing up. I like the idea of a single syllable first name. Other options we thought of were Lee, Zane, Reed, Brooks or Hawk.

Yeah that’s a thought!

Yeah the ver may be too sing songy as I keep saying it!

Oh [name_u]Reed[/name_u] works great here (and feels closest in spirit to River)!

Yeah we had a friend named that and we hiked with him a lot when we lived in [name_u]Arizona[/name_u] so it still has that nature vibe we like. [name_f]May[/name_f] need to think on that one!

[name_u]Or[/name_u] maybe even using [name_u]Holland[/name_u] as a first name. [name_u]Holland[/name_u] grover? Kind of thought about that for a girl and could call her [name_u]Holly[/name_u] for short.
