Hello, I was wondering what your thoughts are on the name Erik. I definitely like its meaning and how it sounds with the middle name we’ve chosen. Another contender is Emil, which does have some family associations (but I do find the ‘soft’ aspect of the name a little less appealing). I would also like the name to reflect the Scandinavian heritage as much as possible. If you are in a non-Scandinavian country, which name would you say feels the most Scandinavian? Thanks!
I love Emil’s soft sound! Both have the Scandinavian feel, I think, but [name_m]Emil[/name_m] more so since it’s less common elsewhere.
Hey there!
Emil definitely feels more Scandinavian to me, since Eric (spelled like this, but sometimes Erik) was very popular in the English-speaking world in the 20th century. Emil is also my favourite of the two, I love the sound!
Both have a Scandinavian vibe to me, but Emil’s is much less subtle as it’s a name common in Northern Europe and way less so in the US and UK, as opposed to [name_m]Erik[/name_m] / [name_m]Eric[/name_m].
I like both names. I agree [name_m]Emil[/name_m] is more unusual but I didn’t even know it was Scandinavian. [name_m]Erik[/name_m] is to me a very Scandinavian name, especially with the K.
[name_f]My[/name_f] family’s Norwegian, and I have cousins and an uncle who are named [name_m]Erik[/name_m] and [name_m]Emil[/name_m]. However, every Norwegian [name_m]Erik[/name_m] I’ve known, including my cousins, uses [name_m]Erik[/name_m] as a double name: Leif-Erik, Karl-Erik, Per-Erik, etc. Using [name_m]Erik[/name_m] as a single first name sounds American to me.
[name_m]Emil[/name_m] feels more Scandinavian to me and I like the softness personally. But, if you want a stronger name, [name_m]Erik[/name_m] is great! I knew a little [name_m]Erik[/name_m] and it suited him well
They both sound Scandinavian, but I think [name_m]Erik[/name_m] seems more Scandinavian. I’m thinking of names like [name_m]Jakob[/name_m], [name_f]Vivika[/name_f], [name_m]Kristofer[/name_m], and I think [name_m]Erik[/name_m] reminds me of those.
[name_m]Emil[/name_m]! [name_m]Erik[/name_m] seems kinda dated to me
I personally prefer [name_m]Emil[/name_m] by far, I just don’t like the sound of [name_m]Erik[/name_m] and can’t picture it on a person under 30
I love [name_m]Erik[/name_m]! It’s so nice to see someone considering it Both feel pretty equally Scandinavian to me
