Erin for a boy?

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] all!
So for a while now I’ve had a bit of a crush on the name [name_f]Erin[/name_f]… but I seem to like it more on a boy than a girl. I’m not sure why, but I think it sounds nice. Knowing that it is a common girls name, I’ve thought about using something like [name_m]Arin[/name_m] or [name_u]Evan[/name_u] instead, but I still think [name_f]Erin[/name_f] is nicer and more charming.

I’d like to know what you would think of a little boy named [name_f]Erin[/name_f].

Personally I think [name_f]Erin[/name_f] is a girls name. I can’t see it on a boy at all however it is a unisex name just not commonly given to boys. [name_m]Arin[/name_m] is cool and so it’s [name_u]Evan[/name_u] perhaps even [name_m]Ethan[/name_m] is similar to [name_u]Evan[/name_u]. Suppose it’s up to you if you would be ok people thinking he was a girl by hearing his name. I always imagine them at school with that name or if I’m shouting the name in a supermarket if it would sound right

It works but I would pair it with a more masculine middle. [name_f]Erin[/name_f] [name_m]Lucas[/name_m]?

I’d immediately assume that an [name_f]Erin[/name_f] is a girl, which could be quite annoying for him. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you dislike the similar [name_m]Aaron[/name_m]? [name_u]Ren[/name_u]? [name_m]Oren[/name_m]?

The only Erins I’ve met have been girls, so that’s my association.

I know not everyone pronounces them the same, and of course they have different origins, but to me [name_m]Aaron[/name_m] is the male spelling and [name_f]Erin[/name_f] the female spelling.

If you just like the sound why not [name_m]Aaron[/name_m]? It’s pronounced the same

I don’t think gendered associations should stop you from using a spelling you prefer. [name_f]Erin[/name_f] is so similar to [name_m]Aaron[/name_m] but they have different origins and meanings so if you like [name_f]Erin[/name_f] better I think that’s very understandable. Associations with names and gender change with time as people use them differently. If names like [name_u]Emerson[/name_u] and [name_u]James[/name_u] can be considered gender neutral and even popular for girls, there’s no reason [name_f]Erin[/name_f] couldn’t be a boy.

I went to school with 2 Erins. One was a boy and one was a girl. I don’t remember it causing any issues. I think it’s fine.

[name_m]Aaron[/name_m], not [name_f]Erin[/name_f]. My personal opinion.

I pronounce [name_f]Erin[/name_f] and [name_m]Aaron[/name_m] exactly the same. Definitely [name_m]Aaron[/name_m] over [name_f]Erin[/name_f] for a boy.

In this case, I will say that [name_f]Erin[/name_f] is a girls name to me and [name_m]Aaron[/name_m] is a boys name. And I love unisex names and soft names for boys and all that. But honestly, if I saw [name_f]Erin[/name_f] on a boy I’d probably assume that his parents meant to go with [name_m]Aaron[/name_m]…
I have also seen [name_m]Aron[/name_m] with just one a.
I think if [name_m]Aaron[/name_m] didn’t exist for boys (and I pronounce the two names almost exactly the same), I’d probably be more open to converting [name_f]Erin[/name_f] to a unisex name.
I hope this helps.

I think [name_f]Erin[/name_f] can be used on a boy or how about the unisex name [name_f]Erian[/name_f]?

Since they are pronounced the same, [name_m]Aaron[/name_m] is what I would suggest for the spelling of the name.

[name_f]Susan[/name_f]

My name is [name_f]Erin[/name_f], and I’m a 21 year old woman. I’ve always hated my name and it often gets confused with [name_m]Aaron[/name_m], and I just don’t think it’s fair to a little boy to use the feminine spelling.

I pronounce [name_m]Aaron[/name_m] and [name_f]Erin[/name_f] quite differently.

I think [name_f]Erin[/name_f] would work fine on a boy. There might be people who saw his name on paper and assume girl, but I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that or that it’s a big issue. I think [name_f]Erin[/name_f] could be quite handsome on a boy and there were about 57 little boys named [name_f]Erin[/name_f] in 2017, so it’s not totally unheard of.

I would spell it [name_m]Aaron[/name_m], but its a nice name.

Where is everyone from that they pronounce [name_f]Erin[/name_f] and [name_m]Aaron[/name_m] the same? To me they are different names and, in that case, I can actually see [name_f]Erin[/name_f] working on a boy. In this day and age with so many names now being considered unisex, why not?

I pronounce [name_m]Aaron[/name_m] and [name_f]Erin[/name_f] completely differently.

To me, [name_f]Erin[/name_f] is feminine. But we have British/Turkish friends whose son is Eren (pronounced as Ehr-ren). That might be an option for you?

I say them both ER-ən (according to behind the name is the proper / same pronunciation for both. [name_m]How[/name_m] is it said differently? I am genuinely curious? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you say Ahr-en?

I also had a male cousin names [name_m]Aaron[/name_m] and we said his name like [name_f]Erin[/name_f] (Ehr-en)
