Erin

For more than 10 years I swore if I had another daughter she would be [name]Erin[/name].
I like simple yet pretty names, and having nns isn’t a huge factor for me.
[name]Just[/name] the last 2 years I started playing with new ideas, because I started thinking [name]Erin[/name] might seem dated. It was never a huge top of the charts name really. [name]Sister[/name] is [name]Brooke[/name].
What do you think of [name]Erin[/name]?

I like [name]Erin[/name]. And I think [name]Erin[/name] and [name]Brooke[/name] compliment each other well.

If you really still love it- use it.

Personally, I feel like it’s very dated. I’m 26 and I had about 3 Erins in my year alone so it screams 80’s to me, but as I said, if YOU love it, that’s what matters

I have only ever met one [name]Erin[/name], and she’s 14. [name]Erin[/name] was never particularly popular in Australia.
[name]Just[/name] curious- what names would people match with [name]Brooke[/name]?

Thanks for your thoughts jdm24. 80’s huh… LOL I do love it, but also have some new fresher ones up my sleeve- perhaps the ‘new’ ones are tomorrow’s [name]Erin[/name]'s?

Rylane- thanks, I realised recently that both my other girls start with a Letter then r name- eg Brooke- and Erin matches that pattern- whereas other names don’t- not sure if it matters though.

Must have just been my particular part of Australia lol!

What are your newer ones??

I think [name]Erin[/name] is a lovely name, and I don’t consider it dated. Actually, I’ve never known an [name]Erin[/name]. And I think it goes very well with [name]Brooke[/name].

Yes there were [name]Erin[/name]'s in the 80s… but I think it was chosen for its Irish roots… I love the name [name]Erin[/name]! Short and sweet and it goes lovely with [name]Brooke[/name]. Also, I love both [name]Erin[/name]'s I know!

[name]Erin[/name] is a beautiful name, and I’ve never thought of it as dated. I have a friend by the name, [name]Erin[/name]. Plus, I have two cousins that are very close and their names are [name]Brooke[/name] and [name]Erin[/name]! I think both are classy names.

FWIW, I really liked all the Erins I knew/know too!

Also, the Irish roots point is a good one. I lived in Sth [name]West[/name] [name]Victoria[/name] which was full on Irish catholic dairy farming country so that could explain a lot!

I’m a [name]Brooke[/name] and my sister is [name]Courtney[/name] (brothers are [name]Troy[/name] & [name]Kyle[/name]). However I do know an [name]Erin[/name] who has an older sister named [name]Brooke[/name]! I think their other sister is named [name]Megan[/name].

If you like R sounds, how about [name]Aria[/name], [name]Arianne[/name], [name]Freya[/name] or [name]Raina[/name]? I think any of these would work well with [name]Brooke[/name], or even as a third girls name with [name]Brooke[/name] and [name]Erin[/name] should you ever be expecting a third girl

jdm24 Yeah, we’re in NSW. So the [name]Victoria[/name] link make sense.

anna 108 That is hilarious! Cousins called [name]Brooke[/name] and [name]Erin[/name]. Wow.

judyariel thanks, I am glad to hear you like it and think it matches with [name]Brooke[/name]. I have been reconsidering [name]Erin[/name] again, it was after all the name I loved for so long.

Misskmg Thanks, I think it has a short sweet way about it. I think it does match with [name]Brooke[/name].

“New” names:
Top 2: [name]Phoebe[/name], [name]Eloise[/name]
Other maybe names: [name]Annabel[/name], [name]Felicity[/name], [name]Skye[/name], [name]Bethany[/name], [name]Eliza[/name], [name]Tahlia[/name]
MN: [name]Charlotte[/name] plus another 2nd MN not sure what yet

I do consider [name]Erin[/name] to be dated, although it does go nicely with [name]Brooke[/name]. Most of the Erins I know are between 20 and 30.

The deal about names being dated is they almost always come back in style. A few years ago, [name]Hazel[/name], [name]Edith[/name], and [name]Ramona[/name] were considered very dated, but now they’re back, and all the rage. Pick the name you like, and it will fit your little one!

I’m in my late twenties and I have a few friends with that name so it is a bit dated, but it’s not bad.

My only hesitation is that I know people get confused between [name]Erin[/name] and [name]Aaron[/name]. I don’t know how many times I’ve heard, “like the boys name?”

It’s similar to [name]Leah[/name], [name]Grace[/name], [name]Rachel[/name], [name]Laura[/name] - soft and a tad old fashioned but still rather classic.

'Round these parts ([name]Canada[/name]), [name]Erin[/name] peaked in the mid-eighties or thereabouts. I don’t think this is a major problem, though, because it’s a name you love. It also balances [name]Brooke[/name] by being a little more classic-sounding. On babynamewizard.com I was surprised to see the following about the name’s current popularity/use:
#9 in [name]Scotland[/name]
#13 in Northern [name]Ireland[/name]
#15 in [name]Wales[/name]
#27 in [name]England[/name]
#35 in [name]Ireland[/name]
#155 in [name]Canada[/name] (British [name]Columbia[/name])
#164 in United States
#186 in [name]Canada[/name] ([name]Alberta[/name])

I love the name [name]Erin[/name]! I feel like it is timeless and love that is not popular. It goes nice with [name]Brooke[/name] too.

I actually love it. I always found it dated, but I’ve been thinking about it a lot lately, and it’s one of those names that I think got a lot of use in the 80s, but is still really usable today. I feel the same way about [name]Rachel[/name] (although I probably shouldn’t use [name]Rachel[/name] [name]Erin[/name], haha, I think people would think she’d be my sister, not my daughter) and [name]Amanda[/name].

I don’t know why I started to fall for [name]Erin[/name], lol, it’s just very sweet and subdued and I think it could fit a lot of people. My sister’s best friend is an [name]Erin[/name], and she’s very sweet. I think if I used it, I would do [name]Catherine[/name] nn [name]Erin[/name] personally (mainly because [name]Catherine[/name] honors my mom, great-grandma, and great-aunt…), but I do love it as a standalone name, as well.

I think [name]Brooke[/name] and [name]Erin[/name] fit together really well!

I would find it dated as well. In response to pp, there’s a difference between feeling dated and feeling old. Older names, ones that people often associate with grandparents are the ones that tend to come back. Dated ones are the ones that may come back with your grandkids. At least that’s the cycle I’ve seen.

Obviously go with what you love but since you asked, yes, I find it dated. It’s very 80s to me as well - and doesn’t hold any sort of spark for me.

neuilly basically summed up my thoughts!
