Eris?

Thoughts on this name?

i love Eris! i like the sound & i think the dwarf planet association is really cool

So so pretty! If I could convince my fiancé this would for sure be a top contender on my list!

Isn’t [name_u]Eris[/name_u] the godess of strife?
I don’t think that’s a good association. However it’s not one that a lot of people would know so you should be fine. Without that association it’s a very pretty sounding name , like a refreshed [name_f]Erin[/name_f].

Pretty!! Sounds like [name_f]Caris[/name_f], a name I adore. I think this is a fun name!

As someone else pointed out, [name_u]Eris[/name_u] is the goddess of discord and strife. I love the name but the association sours it for me.

I think if you don’t mind the strike and discord association, [name_u]Eris[/name_u] is a really cool sounding name!!

I really like how it sounds, but I also immediately thought of the goddess connection and am not sure how I feel about this particular one. If it doesn’t bother you, by all means, go for it. If it does, maybe [name_f]Iris[/name_f] could be a great alternative?

I agree, it sounds lovely but don’t love the connection to strife/discord. Maybe with a different spelling?

Erys
[name_u]Aris[/name_u] - though this one sounds different; are-is vs air-is
Airys
Airis

But as the pp mentioned, if you don’t mind the association go for it as is!

Sounds too much like “Heiress” for me

I hear “heiress” too. I think it could be confused with [name_f]Iris[/name_f] if a girl named [name_u]Eris[/name_u] were to introduce herself. [name_u]Eris[/name_u] does sound nice, but because of “heiress”, confusion with [name_f]Iris[/name_f], and the goddess, I don’t like it much

I love Eris! I think the sound is very lovely, in my opinion prettier than Iris.

I’m Greek, and I personally don’t think the Greek mythology association is a big deal at all, and to be honest I think someone called Eris wouldn’t care that much either!

i love this ! it sounds beautiful, feels dramatic (despite being simple to pronounce and spell), and i love the mythological background (yes, despite her being the goddess of strife).

I don’t like it. The goddess connection isn’t a good one either.

[name_f]Iris[/name_f] is a good alternative! [name_u]Or[/name_u] [name_f]Cerys[/name_f].

In theory I like it a lot, and for what it’s worth I wasn’t familiar with the “goddess of strife” aspect.

In practice though it’s really similar to several other names and words, to the point that I would expect it to be a bit tough to wear. It reminded me first of [name_m]Eros[/name_m], then Iris-with-an-E, then Erin-ending-with-an-S, and then “heiress”.
