Ernie?

Is [name]Ernie[/name] usable? I know the [name]Sesame[/name] [name]Street[/name] reference and wonder if its still usable.
Also, Are there any full names for the nickname [name]Ernie[/name]?

[name]Ernest[/name] is the first full name that came to mind.

I don’t care for [name]Ernest[/name] at all, sorry. It doesn’t have to do with the [name]Sesame[/name] [name]Street[/name] reference but more the fact that I find [name]Ernest[/name] to be in the same category as [name]Agatha[/name] and [name]Beulah[/name].

[name]Ernest[/name] is a full name for [name]Ernie[/name]. I like [name]Ernest[/name], but don’t like [name]Ernie[/name] at all (mainly because of [name]Sesame[/name] [name]Street[/name]!). I think if you named your son [name]Ernie[/name], he would definitely be teased.

[name]Ernie[/name] is definitely the short form of [name]Ernest[/name]. I do think [name]Ernie[/name] is pretty strongly associated with [name]Sesame[/name] [name]Street[/name], but I don’t necessarily think that’s a horribly negative association. It’s not like he’s a war criminal or a serial killer. It could get old to hear the jokes/references, though. “Hey, [name]Ernie[/name], where’s [name]Bert[/name]?” might come up a lot. I had a teacher named [name]Ernie[/name], though, and nobody said anything about it. I think it might be more of a playground thing, but I doubt it would persist into adulthood.

[name]Ernest[/name] is a pretty cool name. [name]One[/name] of those antique kinda names that feels like it could work for this generation. And it’s got a cool meaning to go along with it. I like it quite a lot. [name]Ernie[/name] I don’t like as much, aside from the [name]Sesame[/name] [name]Street[/name] association (which I don’t think is really a big deal), the main thing for me is the rather ‘nasal-y’ sound of it (hopefully you understand what I mean by that, I don’t really know how else to express the somewhat high-pitched, back of the nose sound that is emitted when saying [name]Ernie[/name]). It’s just got a sound that irks me a bit. But it could be an okay nickname for a youngin’, just not something that I think holds very well into adulthood.

[name]Ernest[/name]! Why didn’t I remember that?

Yes@javad I understand the nasally sound but I think it’s still cute.

I dont mind [name]Ernest[/name] as in [name]Hemingway[/name]…and I’m fine with [name]Ern[/name]…but [name]Ernie[/name] might as well be [name]Elmo[/name] as far as I’m concerned. Sorry…they’re too linked in my mind :frowning:

Strangely, I don’t feel as strongly about [name]Bert[/name]…

[name]Ernie[/name] [[name]Ernest[/name]] is a family name in our family, and once you get to know someone as [name]Ernie[/name], the [name]Sesame[/name] [name]Street[/name] thinh totally dissapears! [name]Ive[/name] known three generations of [name]Ernie[/name]'s, and in my mind it is a nice name.

I adore [name]Ernest[/name]! It is a family name. However, [name]Ernie[/name] seems either really childish or kind of perverted (Who know why I feel that way, sorry). My grandfather was NEVER [name]Ernie[/name]. He was always [name]Ernest[/name].
