Honest opinions…does [name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f] seem like an odd name choice for a non spanish speaking family? Thanks ”
It’s a bold choice but i think you could use it as it’s fairly familiar
I would probably find it a bit strange at first, but I’m sure I’d get over it quickly. I do think it works.
I think in the UK or [name_f]Ireland[/name_f] it would be completely fine name for a girl from a non-Spanish family. It’s familiar internationally because of the Hunchback of Notre Dame. I’ve met an [name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f] (from the UK) who did not have any Spanish heritage to my knowledge so I assume her parents just liked the name. I can’t speak for the USA or other countries though.
I love [name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f]! So beautiful, I love the emerald imagery and it has good nickname options. I also like the literary and Disney association. I’m from a Mexican community and I’ve never meet someone with the name, so I think it’s neither here nor there.
@lauren.ley which nicknames do you like for [name_f]Esmerelda[/name_f]? I see [name_f]Esme[/name_f] in your signature so I’m guessing that one…any others?
Thanks for your feedback!
[name_u]Love[/name_u] the name [name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f]! And I don’t think it’s odd bc I know people know of people naming their kids more bizarre than [name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f]
[name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f] is so beautiful, and conjures a wonderful imagery in my mind! I definitely associate it with Disney though, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
I think it’s fine. [name_f]Esme[/name_f] or [name_f]Emerald[/name_f] might seem a little more expected, but [name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f] is lovely, familiar enough, and not intrinsically tied to a culture in a manner that would feel like appropriation.
I think [name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f] is gorgeous, and I wouldn’t blink an eye if an [name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f] wasn’t Spanish. Definitely familiar enough that it’s not too unusual either.
I love [name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f] and I don’t speak Spanish, it was on my list for a long time unfortunately I just don’t think it fits with me and felt that I may come across as pretentious if I named a daughter [name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f]. I think it’s beautiful though and think that there needs to be more [name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f]’s in the world!
Side note my favourite nickname (other than [name_f]Esme[/name_f]) for [name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f] is [name_f]Zelda[/name_f], a little bit of a stretch but the sounds are there and I think that [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] matches the strength and general feeling of [name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f].
