[name_m]Just[/name_m] as posted ^ Which do you prefer? I really like Esmeray better but I say it like (ezma-rae), and therefore my name imagery is accompanied by a sweet country girl named, well; [name_f]Esma[/name_f] [name_u]Ray[/name_u]. And besides that, stingrays come to mind. [name_f]Ismay[/name_f] solves all of these problems, except it introduces a new one: “Is [name_f]Mae[/name_f] coming?”, “Is [name_f]May[/name_f] bringing lunch?”, etc. So which do you like best in spite of these? And which has less troublesome connotations? Thanks : )
I like Esmeray better.
Esmeree (the other spelling) is on my list
Esmeray …[name_f]Ismay[/name_f] sounds like pig latin to me.
I like them both, as well as Esmeree, but I think [name_f]Ismay[/name_f] edges them all out just a little. Esmeree and Esmeray end up sounding too much like a smoosh name or a double barreled name to me. They are all pretty though.
I really like both, slightly prefer Esmeray.
Esmeray rather than [name_f]Ismay[/name_f] because [name_f]Ismay[/name_f] is too close to [name_f]Esme[/name_f] and, I think, would lend to more confusion than anything else. I always ask myself (about a potential name) would it be understood by a barista or someone over the phone? I mean, my name is [name_f]Laurel[/name_f] and people get confused enough with one as simple as that. Esmeray is nice, but definitely sounds like a double-barreled name. I much prefer the simplicity of [name_f]Esme[/name_f].
I actually prefer [name_f]Ismay[/name_f], but hadn’t thought about pig-latin! Eeek! I have seen it spelled Isemay, which really reminds me of you Esmeray.
of your Esmeray.
I prefer Esmeray. The name is Turkish and means “dark moon” (from esmer “dark” and ay “moon”). I think it’s very pretty and has an ethereal, fairytale quality. [name_f]Ismay[/name_f] is ok but I’d rather have Esmé.
I prefer [name_f]Ismay[/name_f].
I really like both, but [name_f]Ismay[/name_f] is a long-time love that is usually hovering near #2 in my top 10 (see signature!)
I prefer Esmeree (to Esmeray) and [name_f]Esme[/name_f] or [name_f]Ismene[/name_f] (to [name_f]Ismay[/name_f]).
If I had to choose one of your two I’d choose Esmeray but spell it Esmeree.
Esmeray sounds like a magic word to me, like ‘abra cadabra esmeray accio’. Very made-up, smooshy sounding.
I actually don’t mind [name_f]Esma[/name_f]-[name_u]Rae[/name_u]. If you like that sound, that’s what I’d pick.
