I came across this name today and I think I really like it! My husband has been pushing me for [name]Evangeline[/name] but I am not sure I like it enough to use as a first name. I think [name]Evaline[/name] addresses most of my big issues with [name]Evangeline[/name] (too frilly and getting kind of popular/trendy) while still having a similar sound to [name]Evangeline[/name] that he loves. What do you guys think? Does it sound classy or frilly? I think I like the -leen pronunciation better but still undecided about that.
Yeah I think it’s a nice compromise instead of [name]Evangeline[/name] which I also feel is a bit frilly. I prefer the “leen” ending too. I also really love the name [name]Evalina[/name]
Thanks for the reply! [name]Do[/name] you think the [name]Eveline[/name] spelling is classier? I also love the suggestion of [name]Evalina[/name]/[name]Evelina[/name]! Although I do think with the -ina ending the spelling [name]Evelina[/name] looks best.
I would spell it [name]Evaline[/name] if you go with the ‘ine’ ending, [name]Eveline[/name] my first instinct is to pronounce it ee-v-line but with the ‘ina’ ending it does look better as [name]Evelina[/name]
I like that, too! Although I do like [name]Evangeline[/name], also.
I think that’s a great compromise, though!! So, you’re pronouncing it EV-uh-leen, then? And I actually like both spellings; is one of the spellings “correct”? Either way, both are lovely. I don’t think one looks classier than the other. Although I was just thinking, [name]Evaline[/name] might get more “EE-va” pronunciation, whereas [name]Eveline[/name] might get more “EV-uh” due to [name]Evelyn[/name]. So I guess I would spell it depending on which pronunciation you’re planning to use.
Yes I would spell it [name]Evelina[/name] sorry! That’s how I always spell it so I don’t know why I did that lol, probably cos I was reading [name]Evaline[/name] at the time! I actually think I prefer the look of both names with the ‘e’ though it isn’t a big deal. [name]Eveline[/name]/[name]Evaline[/name]. Yeah actually I do think [name]Eveline[/name] looks more sophisticated and I’m not sure why! It looks more delicate too if that makes sense? Softer, prettier. That’s just me though! And really there’s not much in it!
I like [name]Eveline[/name] but I love [name]Evelina[/name] because I think it avoids the ‘leen’ vs ‘line’ pronunciation problem and you get the choice of the cute nn [name]Lina[/name]
Ok, I’ve been thinking about it…[name]Evelina[/name] is gorgeous!! I think I do actually prefer the “E-v-e” too…and I think [name]Laura[/name] is totally right about the “-lina” ending avoiding the pronunciation probs you might get with [name]Eveline[/name]. Let us know what your husband thinks…I think I’m going to check with mine, too lol!! I hope you don’t mind.
(I won’t hold my breath though…)
Oh [name]Erica[/name]! I suggested [name]Evelina[/name] to you AGES ago! Lol
Let me know what [name]Brent[/name] says…
Thanks for the replies! That’s a good point about [name]Evelina[/name] not hbong the pronunciation issues of eveline. [name]Evelina[/name] got me thinking and I also really love the name [name]Evita[/name]. What do you guys think? I think it’s really pretty
[name]Evita[/name] is nice, too! I feel like it’s so strongly tied with [name]Evita[/name], though…that lady [name]Madonna[/name] played in that movie? Isn’t she the president of [name]Argentina[/name] or something? Omg, I’m totally embarrassing myself, here…well anyway, I still think it’s pretty.
[name]Eva[/name] Peron was the first lady of [name]Argentina[/name]
she was affectionately called [name]Evita[/name] but it wasn’t her real name ( I don’t think). I don’t think it will be as strongly associated with her for this next generation but it’s not a bad association in any case
I was just telling [name]Erica[/name] that I love [name]Eveline[/name], spelled that way. I say it as [eh-vah-line], because I’m a -line kind of girl, but I think you could also say it like [name]Evelyn[/name] - [eh-vah-lin] - or [eh-vah-leen]. So, take your pick! I think it might be confusing at first, but people will catch on. For example, I know and [name]Alicia[/name]. Most people would probably think that was pronounced as [ah-lee-sha], but she says her name as [ah-lish-a], and we all just have adapted and moved on!
[name]Evelina[/name] is gorgeous, too, but it has more of a feminine, delicate feel to it than the whimsical, yet still feminine, [name]Eveline[/name].

Oh, thank you for the [name]Evita[/name] info! Yes, it’s all coming back to me now. And you’re right; even if anyone from this generation does associate it with her, it’s not bad at all!
Did you check with your husband yet??
Thanks lemmon! I think I am liking [name]Eveline[/name] pronounced -line better now that I think about it. I think -leen makes the name too close to [name]Evelyn[/name], although both are gorgeous. What do you think of [name]Eveline[/name] vs [name]Emmeline[/name] both pronounced the -line way?
Oh, jeez. You’ve got me in a bind, because I love [name]Emmeline[/name], personally, but [name]Eveline[/name] feels maybe a bit more glamorous. I think it depends what vibe you’re going for. [name]Emmeline[/name] is sweet and classic and subtly strong. [name]Eveline[/name] is elegant and feminine and a bit more daring. [name]Both[/name], however, are stunning.
