Evangeline vs. Evelyn

Hey everyone!

[name_f]My[/name_f] partner and I have been talking about baby names a lot lately. Were a ways off from actually trying to have kids but I’m curious about what you all might think about a hypothetical daughters name.

With my first born daughter I’d like to honor my maternal grandmother. Her name was [name_f]Eva[/name_f]. To me [name_f]Eva[/name_f] sounds like a nickname and I fell in love with the name [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f]. To me it sounds like a really strong yet feminine name and she could be called [name_f]Eva[/name_f] or [name_f]Evie[/name_f] for short.

[name_f]My[/name_f] fiancée is on board with this idea as her grandmother who she was very close to was named [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] and went by [name_f]Evie[/name_f] (eh-vee not ee-vee though.)

Although I loved [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] before I’m kind of starting to lean towards just naming a future daughter [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] since I don’t have any actual family attachment to the name [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] just to [name_f]Eva[/name_f]. Would it make sense to use the nickname [name_f]Eva[/name_f] or [name_f]Evie[/name_f] (ee-vee) for the name [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u]? I also kind of like that [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] is a less popular name than [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] in terms of how often it’s used. What do you think or both names?

For a middle name I really liked [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] to honor another family member. Does [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] go? I don’t think I like the flow as much especially with our last name which is one syllable. Suggest some middle names for [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u]?

I think both are lovely, and both nicknames work for either one. Since your last name is one syllable, maybe [name_f]Clara[/name_f] would work better in the middle?

Both are lovely, but the direct family connection makes me go for Evelyn or Evalyn, nickname Eva (eh-va?) or Evie.

Evangeline is certainly more unusual, but if you intend on calling her Eva / Evie, which are common, isn’t the “distinctive” factor a little lost, anyway?

Evelyn Claire “Beck” sounds fine to me, I second Evelyn Clara for that extra syllable. Evelyn Clarissa, Evelyn Chloë, Evelyn Claudia, Evelyn Sophia, Evelyn Augusta, Evelyn Beatrice, Evelyn Charlotte, Evelyn Dorothy, Evelyn Matilda…?
