Evanthe pronunciation

Nameberry lists [name_f]Evanthe[/name_f] with a pronunciation of ee-vahn-thuh. Other websites list it as ee-van-thee. Which is more common? Which do you like best? Thanks.

Ee-van-thee is my favourite pronunciation and it also happens to be one of my favourite names

I can’t say which is more common as I have never met someone with the name before!

It’s got an -ee sound on the end. Like [name_f]Chloe[/name_f], [name_f]Zoe[/name_f], [name_f]Xanthe[/name_f], [name_f]Ione[/name_f], [name_f]Penelope[/name_f], etc. I don’t know why it’s listed that way on Nameberry, I’ve never seen another source supporting it.

I like the -ee ending.

I pronounce it Ee-vahn-thee in english, so a mix of both.
If I pronounce it in German, it’s Eh-vahn-te / Eh-vahn-the.
Nameberry’s pronunciation might be based on the original, Greek one.

If I saw it written down, I would assume Ee-VANTH-ee.
I think it’s quite lovely!
Best of luck.

The only [name_f]Evanthe[/name_f] I know says ‘eh-[name_u]VAN[/name_u]-thee’.
Short ‘eh’ sound at the start, long ‘ee’ sound at the end.

I say it as Eh-vahn-thee  it’s a beautiful name!

Calling Dantea!!! She speaks Greek!

I’d assume it is like [name_f]Zoe[/name_f], [name_f]Chloe[/name_f], [name_f]Persephone[/name_f], [name_f]Penelope[/name_f], [name_f]Ianthe[/name_f], [name_f]Xanthe[/name_f], etc, and pronounced ee-van-thee

I know it ends in an ‘ee’ sound, so I think it’s eh-[name_u]VAN[/name_u]-thee, but @dantea, we need you!

Thanks for the input. I think it’s so lovely, no matter the pronunciation!

I’m here!

In Greek, it’s eh-vahn-thee. Names ending in E always end in ee in Greek. If you have any other Greek questions, feel free to message me.
