Evelyn pronunciation?

Is it eev-lyn or ev-lyn? I guess it could be said both ways but which is more commonly used?

I’ve always pronounced it [name_f]Eve[/name_f]-lyn. I’ve never heard it pronounce Evv-lyn.

I say EHV-uh-lyn (three distinct syllables). The only [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] I know (she’s 20) pronounces it like this too.

“EEV-lyn” was usually how it was pronounced when males were given the name. “EV-uh-lyn” is the way I pronounce the female name (the second syllable is so faint that the name often sounds like it’s just two syllables instead of three).

I’ve only heard it pronounced as Ehv-uh-lyn.

I know a girl with the name that pronounces it ‘eve-lyn’ and one that says it ‘ever-lyn’.

I’ve known several and they all pronounced it EHV-uh-lyn

I’ve heard it as Ehv-uh-lyn and as Ev-lyn.

I always thought it was pronounced EV-lyn, kind of like [name_f]Eibhlin[/name_f], but then I met an [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] and she says it EEV-lyn so I think both are widely accepted pronunciations

The only way I’ve heard it pronounced in the midwest US is ev-lyn.

Ev-UH-lyn its how the only [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] I know says it and how the home and away character says her name too

[name_f]My[/name_f] [name_f]Nan[/name_f]'s name is [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u], and she pronounces it [name_f]Eve[/name_f]-lyn. She was born in [name_f]England[/name_f] in the 1930’s, and she said that the name [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] was very popular for boys then too. So the girls (at least where she was from) pronounced it [name_f]Eve[/name_f]-lyn, and the boys pronounced it Ev-er-lyn.
[name_f]My[/name_f] Mum has [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] has a middle name, and she pronounces it as [name_f]Eve[/name_f]-lyn too.

I’ve known a couple Evelyns, and they’ve pronounced it as ev-uh-lyn. I’m in the US.
