[name_u]Ever[/name_u] heard of girl name Chryseis? [name_m]How[/name_m] would that be pronounced?
I saw it on a list of names of people from a meeting last week, and was intrigued… Is it “Ker-is-sees”?

If I’m not entirely mistaken, I think I came across Chryseis and Briseis as well through [name_m]Homer[/name_m]'s The Iliad in my classics studies eons ago.
I’m not familiar with the name, but I read it as [name_u]Chris[/name_u]-ees.
Yes, but only because I’m a name nerd.
I thought it was pronounced kri-[name_m]SAY[/name_m]-is, but Wikipedia says the English pronunciation is cry-SEE-is.
I saw or heard it, thought it sounded like it would be a cool name, and it’s been on my considering list ever since. I’ve always thought it’s said Crih-[name_m]SAY[/name_m]-iss, like [name_u]Chris[/name_u] with AY-iss on the end. Maybe because of Briseis which is Brih-[name_m]SAY[/name_m]-iss. I like it. Beautiful but with personality too.
I would have guessed [name_u]Chris[/name_u]-AY-is.
If it’s pronounced Krih-[name_m]SAY[/name_m]-is, then I actually like it. However, when I first saw it, it just looked like a fancy way to spell crisis or crises.
I’ve never heard of it, but I would guess krih-[name_m]SAY[/name_m]-is as well due to its similarity to Briseis.
I read it as crisis. Chryse (like chrysler car) + is. I don’t like it.
Yes if you follow up through Greek mythology & [name_m]Chaucer[/name_m] -Chryseis was a priest according to most versions. He had a daughter and this is the origin of the name [name_f]Cressida[/name_f]. Some early writers seemed to confuse (and i’st still sometimes ambiguous)-between Chryseis and Briseis. Also Chryseis is Chrysede by Chaucers writing time I think.
Sorry if I sound vague I think everytime I read something there is another twist to the story so I just did this off the ‘top of my head’- and suggest you google it for yourself because of the conflicting information.
Best wishes.
