I wanted to get everyone’s thoughts on [name_u]Ever[/name_u] vs. Evermore. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you all find Evermore to be too heavy? I was planning on using [name_u]Ever[/name_u] as a nn for Evermore, but a lot of the feedback I’m getting on Evermore is that it is too fairytale and doesn’t sound like a name. [name_f]IMO[/name_f] the name has a very classic, romantic, and timeless feel. Where do you all stand on [name_u]Ever[/name_u] vs Evermore?
Pairings would be Evermore/[name_u]Ever[/name_u] [name_f]Soleil[/name_f]/[name_f]Imogen[/name_f].
I would not be impressed if my parents named me Evermore. I don’t love [name_u]Ever[/name_u] on a girl (I really like it on a boy though, but my intro to the name was Éver Banega, the footballer), but [name_u]Ever[/name_u] is much more livable than Evermore. And if you’d be calling her [name_u]Ever[/name_u] even if you name her Evermore, you might as well make it easier on her.
Definitely go with [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] as a middle. [name_f]Soleil[/name_f] is a masculine noun, and it drives me bananas when I see it as an English name. [name_f]Imogen[/name_f], on the other hand is lovely, literary, and unexpected.
[name_u]Ever[/name_u] [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] is quite pretty!
Here are my thoughts:
*[name_u]Ever[/name_u] would definitely be an easier name to carry
*Evermore, though more unusual, could be nickname [name_f]Eve[/name_f] or [name_f]Evie[/name_f] if she went through a stage of wanting a really normal name.
*I would be more excited to meet an adorable little girl named Evermore, because I cherish unusual names.
*[name_u]Ever[/name_u] would still be an unusual choice, so your little girl could still stand out from the [name_f]Emma[/name_f]'s and [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f]'s.
*Evermore does sound like a fairy tale character. But I can see a grown Evermore working as a lawyer, as well.
The verdict:
Keep Evermore over [name_u]Ever[/name_u]. It is pretty, bold, and easily shortened to a more grounded choice. Overall, I think it would make a quirky choice, in a good way.
Quite frankly, I don’t think either [name_u]Ever[/name_u] and Evermore make great first names. I think they would make quirky middle name choices. [name_u]Ever[/name_u] seems cheesy and lacks substance whereas Evermore seems like a weighty name for a person to carry. Of the two, I think Evermore is the better choice because it gives a girl more options for nicknames like [name_f]Evie[/name_f] and [name_m]Mori[/name_m].
For me Evermore is too over the top and sort of has a creepy vibe (no doubt because of it’s association with [name_u]Poe[/name_u]'s [name_u]Raven[/name_u]). Neither name is my style, but I think [name_u]Ever[/name_u] would be much easier to wear so it gets my vote.
The last words I would associate with Evermore are classic and timeless… I do feel it would be a heavy name to carry: [name_u]Ever[/name_u] is much more bearable.
Have you considered [name_u]Everly[/name_u] (another virtue name which is more recognizable) or Everild?
Personally, I find [name_u]Ever[/name_u] to be reminiscent of a fairytale character. When it topped my list everyone told me it sounded trashy and stripper-like. I was crushed. also they joked about ‘never-ever’
[name_u]Everly[/name_u]. Everliegh. [name_u]Everest[/name_u]. [name_u]Everett[/name_u].
Evermore is too much for my taste. Which is odd considering I love the combo [name_u]Ever[/name_u] [name_f]Lore[/name_f].
Names that have that fairytale word vibe: [name_f]Amethyst[/name_f] nn Myth.
[name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] nn [name_f]Lore[/name_f]
[name_u]Fable[/name_u]
Estoire or [name_f]Astoria[/name_f] nn [name_u]Story[/name_u]
Evermore reminds me of the words “ever more,” like your daughter will never be satisfied. The long “o” in “more” also makes it sound more masculine than I think is a good idea.
I’ve been falling in love with [name_u]Ever[/name_u] recently, though. It has the same vibe as [name_f]Mercy[/name_f] or [name_f]Faith[/name_f] or [name_f]Hope[/name_f] - it’s a word, it has a perfectly good meaning, and it does have the cute nn [name_f]Evie[/name_f]. It’s unique, but, since it’s a recognizable word, not to awkward to carry - a perfect combination in a name.
Bottom line: I’d stick with [name_u]Ever[/name_u], and not Evermore.
I’m confused, how does one make the jump to stripper-like . .
?
Anyway,
eperdument- Everlore is very pretty ! As far as the never ever teasing goes, yea I’ve heard that too. Kids will ALWAYS find a way to tease. My name is [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] and they used to call me [name_f]Olive[/name_f]… I mean how was that supposed to be offensive ? My gf’s name was [name_f]Amanda[/name_f] and she got teased with " youre a a man duh". That was mean. And [name_f]Amanda[/name_f] is a classy name. People can be sh*ts. I don’t have time to dance around it. Her name wont be [name_f]Destiny[/name_f] Stripper or [name_f]Pink[/name_f] [name_f]Tequila[/name_f]. I am not cruel, or particularly stupid… I don’t think. So I’m not too worried about it in that regard.
Everleigh is nice out of your suggestions, but I am not as fond of it as Evermore. I prefer that spelling to [name_u]Everly[/name_u], but overally I’m not in love with it. [name_u]Everest[/name_u] is great too, but imo more for a boy.
I love your other “enchanted” names and they’re nn’s ! - [name_f]Lorelai[/name_f], and Estoire. [name_u]Fable[/name_u] Iis cute, and [name_f]Amethyst[/name_f] is pretty, but tthey’re not really my style.
Thank you for your feedback
Sugarplumfairy- what about Evermore do you not find classic or timeless. is it the sound/flow of the name? I do like Everild, but I think mostly because it reminds me of [name_f]Emerald[/name_f]. Thank you for your feedback
Clairejustine- Evermore reminds me of [name_u]Poe[/name_u] too, but that is more of a positive in my book than a negative. [name_u]Ever[/name_u] does not have as much shock value, I agree.Thank you for your feedback !
[name_u]Mischa[/name_u]- Thank you for your input ! Although I don’t agree that [name_u]Ever[/name_u] sounds cheesy, I do think it sounds a little too open-ended, or like it’s missing its other half or something. Evermore seems more like a complete name with more nn options, yes.
Lucialucentum- Thank you for your feedback ! I recognize that [name_u]Ever[/name_u] has traditionally been used for a boy, but it’s English meaning as a word leaves it open for use on the opposite sex. I also recognize [name_f]Soleil[/name_f] is masculine, but it is the only name meaning sun that I like, and that flows with [name_u]Ever[/name_u]/Evermore. I’d love to know what is it particularly that you don’t like about Evermore? the feel/flow of the name?
[name_f]Bellerose[/name_f]- Thank you. I remember you from my other thread. I love Evermore [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] as well Can I ask, what is it that you like about this name? What images does it illicit?
larkub- Thank you for your response, it was very in depth I really appreciate it Can I ask, is Evermore more quirky or romantic and intriguing? I could see a someone carrying this name in a strong profession as an adult as well. Thank you again.
c@29-I think Evermore [name_f]Soleil[/name_f] is stunning as well I appreciate your feedback !
So I guess my question is-for those who like Evermore: Is the likeability just shock value, iuniqueness, and quirkiness, or if you heard this name on a little girl would you find it romantic, beautiful, and underused?
Well, I guess I always like uncommon, underused names that sound beautiful, romantic & have a poetry feel in them.
I don’t find Evermore to be stripper like at all. I dont get why all unique names like Evermore, Wildrose etc must be stripper names. Strippers can be named [name_f]Holly[/name_f], [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] etc.
I imagine a girl who love books, music, nature, she is generous & friendly to everyone & believe that love is everything
And when she gets older & feels that Evermore doesn’t suit her, can introduce herself as [name_f]Eve[/name_f]/[name_f]Evie[/name_f] to other people.
[name_f]Bellerose[/name_f]- Thank you so much for answering my question. I also see all of those things when i think of Evermore. The word means eternal, and sounds like the names [name_u]Ever[/name_u] and [name_m]Moore[/name_m] combined. There have been stranger inventions… if it could really be called that. Thank you so much for such an indepth response, that was very sweet.
Renrose-Everilda is very pretty, but nms. Everlina is pretty as well. I still prefrer Evermore, but I will consider everyones suggestions. Thank you for your feedback !
I think it is romantic when solely looking at the name, but seeing it used in real life is what seems quirky (once again, in a good way) to me. Make sense? It’s romantic in theory, and quirky in use. I still think it’s beautiful, no matter what though, so no it’s not just the uniqueness that make me like it.
Because classic / timeless names, by definition, are those names that have been and will be used for a long time, which are neither modern, old-fashioned, nor dated, but elegant and even upperclass. Things like [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], [name_m]John[/name_m], [name_f]Mary[/name_f], [name_m]Charles[/name_m], etc. Evermore is interesting, original, new, quirky, and has many other positive qualities — this has nothing to do with the sound or the flow, it’s just the (lack of) history of the name!
If I will ever have a baby girl, her first name would definitely be Evermore. The middle name totally [name_f]Arianna[/name_f].
Evermore [name_f]Arianna[/name_f] [name_m]Nicholson[/name_m]
Evermore means forever, and [name_f]Arianna[/name_f] in Latin means the holiest.
How cute is that??
I hope you named her Evermore [name_f]Imogen[/name_f]; it’s also nice.
