Explain Kason to me

a friend just named her son [name]Kason[/name]. our group of friends --who I consider to have good taste, their kids have good names-- seem totally accepting of this as a legitimate choice. Am I exceptionally judgemental for thinking it’s totally made up and ridiculous?

On a related note, another friend’s baby girl has the middle “Gracyn” i.e. [name]Grayson[/name]. Are these syn/son/cyn names legit and I just missed the memo?

Not at all. You’re right.

Nope. It’s made up and ridiculous.

[name]Grayson[/name] (or, if you have to stretch it, [name]Greyson[/name], I guess) is ok in my mind, though. It seems like a legit surname-name, and has a nice sound for a boy (and only a boy).

[name]Kason[/name], [name]Kasen[/name], [name]Cason[/name], [name]Kayson[/name] and Gracyn and the like? Cringe-worthy. No offense to your friend, but I let out an audible sigh when I saw it. (But I had a friend name her daughter Kynley. So there’s that.)

Agreed. I know of a family who has a [name]Josiah[/name] and a [name]Penelope[/name], and I thought their style was completely exquisite… and then they named their third son [name]Casen[/name] ([name]Kasen[/name]?)–and I was like, What happened?! :frowning: I was so sad. I couldn’t understand how they went from [name]Penelope[/name] to… [name]Casen[/name]. I’m hoping it has some significance to them or something. At my old job the freezer door was made by [name]Kason[/name], Inc., or something, so I think of a freezer when I see it, not a person. [name]Carson[/name] I can see the appeal of. [name]Grayson[/name], too. [name]Even[/name] [name]Mason[/name]. But [name]Cason[/name]/[name]Kason[/name]? I just don’t get it.

I think it’s that they take a name like [name]Mason[/name] (or [name]Aiden[/name]) and like the sound, but want to be “yewneahk” and still not too daring, so they just swap out the initial letters until they find something they think sounds good. It’s funny how so many parents fell for types of names at the same time and all of a sudden we get a slew of similar names all at once.

It’s probably the natural evolution of the [name]Aidan[/name]/[name]Jaden[/name]/[name]Hayden[/name] etc trend. [name]Jason[/name], [name]Mason[/name] and [name]Grayson[/name]/[name]Greyson[/name] are (were in [name]Jason[/name]'s case) popular names and so it’s probably an attempt at making a more ‘unique’ name. [name]Kason[/name] I don’t like at all, I just think of a suitcase. And Gracyn is like trying to give [name]Grace[/name] a longer name but it just looks so awkward to me. [name]Grace[/name] is fine, [name]Grayson[/name] is fine, just don’t try and merge them or it looks awkward.

I have actually run into several little Kasons . [name]One[/name] had a dad named [name]Jason[/name]. I have also seen lots of girls named Gracyn. Not my style on either one, but they are out there.

No, I agree that name is way too made up. I have several friends who went with a unique (but not weird) or traditional name for their first kids and a very trendy, made up name for their second. [name]One[/name] friend of mine has a son named [name]Declan[/name] and is expecting a daughter she’s naming Deslynn. Another friend of mine has a son named Keylan (Yes, this one is kind of trendy, but it’s not too bad) and just had a daughter she named Kaizlee.

I actually know a guy in his late 30s or early 40s named [name]Cason[/name], so it has been out there for awhile, at least.

Your other friends are probably trying to be polite. Most people would consider it rude to openly criticise a baby’s name after he/she is already named.

Or they may already associate it with the baby and like it for that reason. I used to hate my youngest nephew’s name with a passion, but I love it now because every time I see it I think of my wonderful nephew.

Why are these names ridiculous? They might not be your cup of tea, or mine, but I don’t think there’s anything wrong with naming your child Gracyn or [name]Kason[/name]. Some people like these names, some like [name]William[/name] and [name]Katherine[/name]. It’s just a matter of taste. And personally, I’m very happy that we all have different tastes. Really, they are just names.

[name]Kason[/name] is a last name i ha this picked out a while ago…i got it from [name]Susanna[/name] [name]Kason[/name] Girl interrupted lol

LOL that reminds me of my cousin. [name]Kaylin[/name] (not sure of the true spelling anymore) is too popular for her… So she wants to go with [name]Braelynn[/name]. Seriously? Ugh.

I can’t. Sorry.
