Explain Vada to me?

[name_f]Vada[/name_f] is #893 in the US for 2019, but I love this name. I can see why some might find it unattractive, but for me, it’s the opposite. I’m surprised it’s not even a little more popular, considering older names are coming back, plus the popularity of the movie “[name_f]My[/name_f] Girl.” I was hoping I could hear different reasons behind your opinions.

Why do you hate it? Why do you love it? What does it make you think of?

Not TTC just yet, only curious!

Unfortunately my immediate association is Darth Vader! I have never heard of a [name_f]Vada[/name_f] in real life and only see it rarely in the media/here on NB, so it’s a big unknown once I’ve pushed thoughts of Darth away!!

I really like it! I do associate it with the movie [name_f]My[/name_f] Girl, that’s where I first heard it. I love the sound and think it looks so nicely elegant and simple. It sounds cool and modern but also classic and vintage.

Yup. Darth Vader. That’s why I can’t get behind it for myself.

I knew a [name_f]Vayda[/name_f]. I think it is pretty.

Not my personal favorite, although I do really love movie and I can see the appeal!

I love [name_f]Vada[/name_f]! It’s so spunky and vintage sounding!

I really like it, although it reminds me of Vader (as in Darth). Otherwise I just think it’s a really cool, spunky name!

I also think of Darth Vader, although I haven’t seen [name_f]My[/name_f] Girl. It sounds weird, but I just don’t like the letter V so I don’t like it - I much prefer [name_f]Ada[/name_f].

Is it pronounced Vay-Da?

I always thought it was Vah-dah, haha, I always pronounce things wrong I guess.

I’m not a [name_f]Vada[/name_f] fan. Reminds me of an [name_f]Indian[/name_f] food.

@EdgeOfTheMeadow totally with you. It just says starwars to me. I do really like Vayla though.

I heard this a while ago for the first time and my first thought was that it was a space name (is it? I’ve never found out). I think it’s a cool name. Not one I would ever use just because it’s not my kind of name, but I think it’s really cool and would love to meet a [name_f]Vada[/name_f]!

I do get the Darth Vader association, but I don’t think of it because I say [name_f]Vada[/name_f] “vah-duh” and Vader “vay-dur”.

Your PN is lovely! Babynames.com has it listed as meaning Famous Ruler and says it is or [name_m]German[/name_m] origin.

I’m always suggesting [name_f]Vada[/name_f] to people on here! I really love it. To me, it has all the appeal of [name_f]Ada[/name_f] – short, sweet, strong, retro – with the added cool factor of that spiky V initial. Plus there’s the lovely My Girl connection :sob:

I think it’s Darth Vader and just a general lack of widespread familiarity that explains why it’s not more popular. I do think it will rise a little higher, although I don’t think it’s conventionally “pretty” enough to hit the Top 100 or anywhere close to it. It’s definitely got an offbeat, very slightly clunky charm.

Another bonus: short, simple names like [name_f]Vada[/name_f] go brilliantly with fun middles! You could have a [name_f]Vada[/name_f] [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] or a [name_f]Vada[/name_f] [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] or a [name_f]Vada[/name_f] [name_f]Leontine[/name_f] or even a [name_f]Vada[/name_f] [name_f]Tigerlily[/name_f] and I still don’t think it sounds “too much”, despite being an uncommon name

I didn’t know it was in the Top Thousand. I’ve met a [name_f]Veda[/name_f], but never a [name_f]Vada[/name_f].

I truly don’t like it, though that doesn’t mean it’s not a good name.

Why? It rhymes with nada though I am not sure whether to say va-dah or vay-da. If it’s the latter, it reminds me of Darth with an accent. It reminds me of vapid, one of my least favorite traits.

Funny about names. Two letters different and it’s [name_f]Vera[/name_f], one of my most favorite names!

Unfortunately, I just hear invader.

I’m with you !!! [name_f]Vada[/name_f] is one of my favorites. It’s shocking to me also that it’s not more popular. It’s short and mysterious and feminine and pretty and vintage yet modern. I would watch my girl when I was little and I loved the name. It’s so cute. Beautiful. It’s in my top 5. I’m so happy someone else “gets it” !!! [name_u]Love[/name_u] this post. [name_f]Hope[/name_f] we get more [name_f]Vada[/name_f] love.

It also doesn’t remind me of death Vader at all.

@kasatka Oh it’s okay, I pronounce names wrong all the time too lol :see_no_evil:

@winterara Yeah I never knew the meaning either, I just loved how it sounded (Vay-dah). I would definitely love to meet more [name_f]Vada[/name_f]'s as well! [name_f]My[/name_f] SO dislikes it, therefore it is unlikely that I will get to use it.

@EdgeOfTheMeadow That is interesting! I never knew that, thank you!

@katinka I absolutely agree! While it may not rise too high, I hope it does get a little more attention at least. It’s short & spunky, and I would definitely pair it with a long and feminine middle name. [name_f]Vada[/name_f] [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] & [name_f]Vada[/name_f] [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] sound so lovely, thank you!

@Harvest-[name_u]Endellion[/name_u] Yes, the pronunciation is Vay-dah. & [name_f]Vera[/name_f] is one of my other favorite “V” names as well!

@JacquelineWinnie Haha yes! The unpopularity will continue to be a mystery to me, even after hearing other’s feelings on it. It’s hard not to imagine the name fitting a little girl as clever and adorable as the [name_f]Vada[/name_f] from [name_f]My[/name_f] Girl. I just love it. [name_f]Glad[/name_f] we’re on the same page, thank you for your reassurance!
