I know that [name]Ezra[/name] is historically a male name (referencing the bible, for one). But given the “a” ending, my mind keeps associating it with the female gender!
And the more I think about it, the more I quite like [name]Ezra[/name] for a girl.
What are your thoughts on this? To me it seems like such a no-brainer and i keep wondering why this name hasn’t been mentioned in previous “gender crossover names” posts.
[name]Maye[/name] it’s just me… Am I completely ‘out there’ on this one?
i view it as a boys name to be honest… BUT there are a lot of other names i view in the same light and people think of them as unisex… so… if you love the name… go for it
I can only picture this name on a boy. It seems lately that every boy’s name that ends with an ‘a’ is being called feminine and claimed for the girls ([name]Micah[/name] and [name]Luca[/name] to name a few), when to me they are all clearly boys.
The feminine of [name]Ezra[/name] is [name]Ezri[/name], which I think is beautiful and more gender appropriate.
While I agree that it is typically a boy’s name - so were [name]Ashley[/name], [name]Kelly[/name], and [name]Shannon[/name] at some point! I think [name]Ezra[/name] could definitely make the switch and be very sweet on a girl! Plus, “Ezzie” would be a cute nn along the lines of all the “Izzies” out there these days! I say go for it - just be prepared that she’ll likely be mistaken for a boy when teachers first read through their classlists!
I like the idea of [name]Ezra[/name] for a girl and I think patically every name ending in a could be a girls name if you wanted it to be (exept maybe [name]Joshua[/name]). I knew a girl called [name]Luca[/name] and she never had a problem with it, if you love [name]Ezra[/name] go with it.
Ahhh! Another [name]Ezra[/name] for a girl admirer!!! I’m not the only one. I sm pregnant at the moment with my sixth child and I was considering naming the baby [name]Ezra[/name] if it’s a girl. In the end my husban and I chose [name]Jared[/name] for a boy and [name]Ingrid[/name] for a girl.
Personally, I like [name]Ezra[/name] for a girl and it was on my long list for this one but alas my husband has vetoed it. I also think [name]Ezri[/name] is very adorable. If you love it, use it!
Oh good, I’m glad to hear there are others who like the name fo a girl as well. I am not actually expecting at the moment, but enjoy looking at names for the future. I just wanted to get people’s opinions on it, as it has been something I have thought about for awhile.
I understand that most people feel it is a boy’s name only, but it does relieve me a touch to know that I’m not alone out there! :o)
My 2 year old daughters name is [name]Ezra[/name] [name]Rose[/name]. So I guess it’s obvious that I think it’s a good girls name. I know it’s traditionally a boys name, but like someone else said; so are a lot of names we now think of as girls names. Honestly I think it’s a better girls name than a boys name. And we do call her Ezzie.
While I actually really like [name]Shannon[/name], [name]Kelly[/name] and [name]Tracy[/name] as boy names and think they work well for both genders, I am not fond of [name]Ezra[/name] for a girl; it doesn’t sound feminine at all to me.
I think [name]Ezra[/name] is a great option for a girl! My name is [name]Sheridan[/name], it means wild man, and I [name]LOVE[/name] having it as my name. If you love [name]Ezra[/name] for a daughter go for it. I know she will love it as well!
[name]Ezra[/name] is firmly a boys name for me. There are so many wonderful names out there that are “girls names” that I personally don’t see the incentive for using a name that is historically, biblically and traditionally a male name. I also always think of the poet, [name]Ezra[/name] Pound, who was male, so the name is just very strongly a boys name even though it ends in A. [name]Ezri[/name] is a cool alternative used in [name]Israel[/name] for both boys and girls.
