Faelan?

I came across the name Faelan recently, and I absolutely love it! It’s an Irish/Gaelic name meaning [name_m]Little[/name_m] [name_m]Wolf[/name_m]. I can’t come up with another nickname other then [name_f]Fae[/name_f] though. What are you guys opinions on the name Faelan, and what could be another nickname?

(I’ve only seen it spelled Phalen but that’s a total side note, I think either spelling works)

I love it. I would use the nick name [name_m]Lenny[/name_m].

I agree, [name_m]Lenny[/name_m] would be it

I’m not really a fan as it just seems feminine to me. I like the look of Phalen better. Maybe [name_m]Hale[/name_m] for a nn?

It sounds like failin’.

Faelan looks very feminine to me. Not that it’s a bad thing but I would assume that the person was a woman. Phalen looks more like it lends itself to being assumed as a boy. I really want to like this name but it makes me think of [name_f]Fae[/name_f]/[name_f]Faye[/name_f] which I associate with a middle aged woman (my brothers mom was [name_f]Faye[/name_f] so that’s probably why) and Fail as in failing a class or failing to do something.
I think if you really like it then use it. It’s not unusable by any means but will probably get people who either love it or hate it and might not have much middle ground. I do like the suggestion of [name_m]Hale[/name_m] as a nickname.

I like it spelled like [name_m]Phelan[/name_m], but I agree it sounds like “failin’”, which is unappealing.

I think it’s a very cute name and i love the meaning but i argee that the [name_m]Phelan[/name_m] spelling is better.I think the Faelan spelling makes the name look made up.

There’s a very similar name spelled [name_m]Faolan[/name_m] (pronounced like [name_u]Fallon[/name_u], as in [name_m]Jimmy[/name_m] [name_u]Fallon[/name_u]) which is less feminine looking. You still really only get [name_m]Lenny[/name_m]/[name_m]Len[/name_m] as a NN though.

I like it quite a bit. Along with other PPs, I have an issue with the spelling. However I don’t think [name_m]Phelan[/name_m] is the way to go, it reminds me of ‘felon’.

I don’t have strong feelings about it either way, but I think you could easily get the nickname Lan from the spelling if not the actual pronunciation.

The name Faolán not pronounced [name_u]Fallon[/name_u], it’s pronounced fay-lawn. The name Fáelán is the same name, but a much older spelling dating back much further. It’s very much a boys’ name in [name_f]Ireland[/name_f], though it does sound feminine to American ears because of the explosion of -len names I think! As for nicknames, why shorten it?

[name_m]Faolan[/name_m] is my preferred spelling - the ‘fae’ part of Faelan which gives it the feminine edge (not a problem, mind you) in my opinion.

I adore it. I’m surprised it hasn’t actually caught off already!

I’ve only ever seen the name spelled [name_m]Phelan[/name_m]. One of my grade school teachers was Ms. [name_m]Phelan[/name_m] (last name [name_m]Phelan[/name_m]). And now I currently attend school with a 21yo girl name [name_m]Phelan[/name_m] (her first name). I’ve never heard it before and took a double take when she said her name. She rocks it.
