I’m finding it very hard to be inspired by girls names at the moment… I want an older, fairytale sounding name, that is still accessible… I loved [name_f]Cassia[/name_f]/[name_f]Cassandra[/name_f]… But feel that the latter is too popular…
This is the kind of image i have in my head…
A deep green forest, towering pines glistening with snow, a thick carpet of white covering the rich earthy ground…*
A dark-haired beauty, cheeks flushed red from cold, snowflakes clinging to her curls, delicately wanders through the snow, enjoying the feel of her wool-lined boots on the soft ground…
Everyone she walks past is greeted with a smile… She is strong, confident, but somehow familiar and kind… She reaches her warm, rustic-style home and spends the night dining with her family followed by a book-and-cup-of-tea by the fire, curled up on her favorite armchair, the family dogcurled up asleep at her feet.
What would you name this girl? Middle name would probably be one syllable… Something like [name_f]Plum[/name_f], [name_f]Neve[/name_f], [name_m]Foxe[/name_m], [name_f]Fawn[/name_f]… Something naturey…
I have been playing around with the following names (but none seem to fit…):
This comes off the back of reading [name_u]Berry[/name_u] [name_f]Ottilie[/name_f]'s beautiful description of a winter/snow-baby in one of her threads…
[name_f]Arianna[/name_f] and [name_f]Melisande[/name_f] immediately come to mind to me… They are romantic and seem like they jumped out from a fairytale! Also [name_f]Anthea[/name_f]/[name_f]Althea[/name_f]/[name_f]Alethea[/name_f] and [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f].
I also really like [name_f]Gretchen[/name_f], but not everyone likes it.
This whole scene reminds me of a [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] I spent with my friend’s family at their winter home in [name_u]Colorado[/name_u] when I was a teenager. They had a rustic cottage-style home in the mountains and it was just like the scene you describe. Her sister had a similar complexion to the girl in your story, but her hair was blonde.
Her name was [name_u]Cassidy[/name_u] ("[name_u]Cass[/name_u]"), so that’s the name that immediately came to my mind, but other names that I think are better:
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f] (this is my favorite for the scene you’ve painted)
[name_f]Juliet[/name_f]
Natalia
[name_f]Gemma[/name_f]
[name_f]Eliska[/name_f]
[name_f]Katarina[/name_f]
Irina
Lina
[name_f]Megan[/name_f] (I know this one is common and dated, but that’s the image I get of a [name_f]Megan[/name_f])
You mentioned [name_f]Sable[/name_f], and I thought of the medieval name Sabeline, Sabelina.
Agree with [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f], [name_f]Melisande[/name_f], [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f], [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f], [name_f]Sabrina[/name_f], [name_u]Ember[/name_u], [name_f]Aurora[/name_f], [name_f]Claudia[/name_f] and [name_f]Isolde[/name_f].
Would add [name_f]Ceridwen[/name_f], [name_f]Arianwen[/name_f], Gweneira, Eirawen (both Gweneira and Eirawen mean snow white), [name_f]Aristella[/name_f], [name_f]Nastasia[/name_f], [name_f]Felicia[/name_f] and [name_u]Rowan[/name_u].
Wow! Thank you every one for your kind words and beautiful suggetions, especially oceansurise (absolutely darling suggestions- this must have taken you ages!) and [name_f]Gabriela[/name_f] for your lovely story.
There are so many unusual and fitting ones here, much better than what I had. And quite a few that popped up multiple times, so they must have strong connections to what I was describing…
I especially love
[name_f]Melisande[/name_f] and [name_f]Isolde[/name_f] (i think these were the most popular)
[name_f]Corisande[/name_f] (so sweet an new to me)
Thistle and Tinder <3 (Kind of conjures a wintery BriarRose feel)- great naturey middles!
Octavia (Oliviasarah, I totally agree with you- it feels dark and cold, but elegant…) and Ravena and Rowan (similar dark feel)
Eira and Eirawen (very “Frozen” feel) and Eliska and Edlewiess… In fact, pretty much all of the “e” names…
Lucy- awww, makes me think of going through the wardrobe and into Narnia…
Aurelie and Felicity (and pretty much all of your names, lilimarie)- i think Aurelie is an more beautiful alternative to my original Aurora, just as Sabeline is more beautiful than my original Sable
And sooooo many of oceansunrise’s suggestions…
Odessa
Arianwen/Ariene
Morganite
Twyla
Mariel and Merry
Wintergreen <3
And especially your beautiful summary of Wintergreen Foxeglove Mayfair…
For my darling snow girl,*I love the following combos from everyones suggestions (I’m not great at putting together, so bare with me)
In the fairytale-esque book The [name_f]Snow[/name_f] Child by [name_f]Eowyn[/name_f] [name_f]Ivy[/name_f], the child [name_f]Faina[/name_f] is named after the Alaskan alpenglow. I think that idea - a mystical, magical, elusive light in the middle of a cold winter - really gets at what you’re looking for!
That said, according to Nameberry, [name_f]Faina[/name_f] means “joyful” or “fawn,” but other sites confirm that it is a Russian name meaning “light” or “crown.”
