I am trying to hammer out names for a new project I’m working on, and I’m a little stumped on place names! I’d love to hear anything you can think of that sounds like it could be the name of a country, city, magical place of some kind, etc. The novel is high fantasy (if you’re not familiar, that means that it involves magic and is NOT set in the ‘real’ world), so I’m looking for names of places that are not real! They can sound sort of mythical/magical, or they don’t have to.
Examples: [name_m]Idris[/name_m] (The Mortal Instruments series), Ketterdam (Six of Crows), Prythian (ACOTAR series), etc.
[I am also still working on character names, so if you have any ideas, I would be glad to hear those as well, either on this thread or the separate one that I posted about creative character names

Okay I’m going to just make up some random sounding stuff off of the top of my head (I do this all of the time as a scifi/fantasy writer)

Also what I sometimes do is take words from real life, and twist them into completely different names
A hot desert land “Scorchalaan” (from “scorching”), “Feverlyn” (from “fever”), “Pyra” (from “pyro”)
A farming land “Bontia” (from “bountiful”) “Jadell” (from “jade” meaning green)
A populous city “Urbanti” “Xurbania” (Both from “[name_u]Urban[/name_u]”), “Povula” (from “Populus”)
etc
You can use any of these names you want, none of them are from my personal works

Thanks, those are good ideas! I like the idea of modifying existing words to match a detail of the location… I suppose I’ll go flesh out the details of my locations and then see what I can come up with using that method!
