Favorite and Least Favorite

[name]Hi[/name]!

Off my list, I’d love to know which one is your favorite and which is your least favorite. I’d love to hear reasons, too.

Also, be honest and if you want, critical! I can take it!

[name]Penelope[/name] nn [name]Polly[/name]
[name]Margaret[/name] nn [name]Meg[/name]
[name]Gwendolyn[/name] nn [name]Winnie[/name]
[name]Caroline[/name]
[name]Miriam[/name]
[name]Elisabeth[/name] nn [name]Betsy[/name]
[name]Sylvia[/name]
[name]Anneliese[/name] nn [name]Anya[/name]
[name]Sybil[/name]
[name]Susannah[/name]
[name]Isannah[/name]
[name]Louisa[/name]

Thanks, Berries! I can’t wait to see your responses!

[name]Caroline[/name] is my favorite. I don’t hear it very often.
[name]Sybil[/name]/[name]Miriam[/name] are my least favorite. [name]Both[/name] sound like old lady names and I just can’t see them working on a baby girl. Maybe if there was a cute nickname like [name]Miri[/name] for [name]Miriam[/name]. Not sure what you would do for [name]Sybil[/name] though…

I also like [name]Elisabeth[/name], but not a fan of [name]Betsy[/name]. I just get a picture of a black and white spotted cow.

Off your list my favorite would be [name]Anneliese[/name] with [name]Penelope[/name] as a second. [name]Anneliese[/name] is just so pretty and classy! love the nn [name]Anya[/name]! I honestly can’t pick a least favorite, I severely dislike [name]Margaret[/name](my G-ma’s name), [name]Gwendolyn[/name]([name]Winnie[/name] is cute though), [name]Miriam[/name], [name]Sylvia[/name], [name]Sybil[/name], and [name]Louisa[/name]. None of them sound pretty to me sorry. I don’t care for [name]Susannah[/name] or [name]Isannah[/name] either. [name]Elisabeth[/name](hate [name]Betsy[/name]) and [name]Caroline[/name] are okay. Sorry it’s so negative!

My favourite is [name]Caroline[/name], its sweet and uncommon, although in Aus you’re likely to get the NN Caz, which isn’t great. Second is [name]Louisa[/name].

Least is [name]Isannah[/name] - I don’t think its a real name and [name]Sybil[/name] I wouldn’t do to a child.

The others I actually really like, [name]Penelope[/name], [name]Elisabeth[/name] (not [name]Betsy[/name] though) and [name]Sylvia[/name] are wonderful as well.

My favorite is definitely [name]Margaret[/name]. It’s strong, rich with history, and [name]Meg[/name] is a fabulous nickname. I also love [name]Caroline[/name], [name]Sybil[/name] (though I prefer the [name]Sibyl[/name] spelling) and [name]Susannah[/name].

I like most of the others too, but my least favorite is definitely [name]Isannah[/name]. Seems like a smush which I’m not a fan of at all. I also don’t care for [name]Anneliese[/name].

Slyvia is my favorite. I love how it sounds. when ever I hear it I sing, Syl-veeeah!

My least favorite is [name]Elizabeth[/name] nn. [name]Betsy[/name]. IMHO I cannot stand [name]Betsy[/name]. I grew up with too many catholic school girls to find it usable. I think a different nn would make it more US usable (if you’re in the US?)

[name]Penelope[/name] is my favourite, especially if [name]Polly[/name] would be the nickname! My least favourite would have to be [name]Sybil[/name]. It just doesn’t sound appealing to me at all.

[name]Louisa[/name] is my favourite. It’s beautiful and girly and a little bit frilly but not overly so. It also just seems really bright and happy to me.
[name]Miriam[/name] is my least favourite. There was a reality show with a transgender guy named [name]Miriam[/name] and I can’t seem to get passed it.

My favourite is [name]Anneliese[/name] nn [name]Anya[/name]. [name]Both[/name] names are so sweet but grown-up too. I would definitely use [name]Anneliese[/name] if my name ([name]Anne[/name]) wasn’t so similar. [name]Susannah[/name], [name]Louisa[/name], and [name]Caroline[/name] are gorgeous as well.

My least favourite is [name]Sybil[/name]. To me, it doesn’t sound attractive at all, and I can’t think of any cute nicknames. I also get it mixed up with the word “civil”.

I chose 1 favorite and 2 least favorites.

[name]Gwendolyn[/name] nn [name]Winnie[/name] is my favorite. [name]Gwendolyn[/name] is a great name. It’s almost ethereal to me. I love how delicate, feminine, and graceful it is. I also love [name]Gwyneth[/name], [name]Gwen[/name], [name]Gwyn[/name], and [name]Gwin[/name].

My least favorites:
[name]Sybil[/name] - Not feminine enough for my tastes. Also, I don’t like that it sort of sounds like the word “civil”.

[name]Isannah[/name] - I kind of like [name]Isannah[/name], but it is a little too unusual for my tastes.

I also love [name]Sybil[/name]. It gets such a hard time.

[name]Isannah[/name] is definitely my least favorite.

I do love [name]Gwendolyn[/name].

  1. [name]Anneliese[/name] nn [name]Anya[/name] My daughter is [name]Anneliese[/name]. I love it and think it’s gorgeous. [name]Anya[/name] is a sweet nickname that gives it some different flair. My favorite for sure!!

My least favorite is [name]Sibyl[/name]. I have never known a [name]Sibyl[/name] in real life, but when I picture one she is fat and ugly and loud and obnoxious. That’s just what I see

[name]LOVE[/name] both [name]Gwendolen[/name] and [name]Miriam[/name]! Definitely my two favorites. Also really, really like [name]Sylvia[/name], [name]Penelope[/name], [name]Caroline[/name], [name]Sybil[/name], [name]Louisa[/name] and [name]Susannah[/name]. [name]Margaret[/name] and [name]Elisabeth[/name] are both good, solid names. The only one I’m not fond of is [name]Isannah[/name]. You have amazing taste!

Like [name]Meg[/name] for [name]Margaret[/name]. [name]Don[/name]'t really like [name]Miriam[/name]. I like [name]Penelope[/name] a lot, but really not fond of [name]Polly[/name]. [name]Polly[/name] want a cracker? She’s going to hear that her whole life.

This is my order, favorite to least favorite.

[name]Anneliese[/name]- This is is on my own list and I love it. So beautiful. I also love the [name]German[/name] pronunciation.
[name]Elisabeth[/name]- A pretty timeless, classic. I love the “s” spelling. I have this paired with [name]Claire[/name] on my own list. I like [name]Betsy[/name] too. I know a nice girl nicknamed [name]Betsy[/name] so has good associations to me. My favorite nickname for [name]Elisabeth[/name], is [name]Libby[/name] though!
[name]Isannah[/name] - I really like this, pronounced Izz-annah( like [name]Isabel[/name] and [name]Hannah[/name]) Nicknames [name]Izzy[/name] or [name]Annie[/name] are cute!
[name]Louisa[/name]- I used to dislike this one, but it grew on me and now I like it a lot and will be using it to honor my husbands grandma
[name]Miriam[/name]- I think this is a fresh and underused Biblical choice. [name]Miri[/name] is a cute nickname too!
[name]Caroline[/name] - I used to dislike this one, but it has grown on me. Sweet and feminine
[name]Gwendolyn[/name] - although I don’t think I could ever use it, it has appeal to me. Pretty choice
[name]Susannah[/name]- I like this a lot bust strongly dislike [name]Sue[/name] or [name]Susie[/name] so I it ruins it for me.
[name]Margaret[/name] - I don’t like this much but I do like the nickname [name]Meg[/name]
[name]Penelope[/name]- again, don’t care for it but [name]Polly[/name] is so cute. I think of the movie [name]PollyAnna[/name]! Loved it when I was a girl
[name]Sylvia[/name]- This is just ok to me. Sounds kind of oldish
[name]Sybil[/name]- I don’t find this attractive at all, sorry.

In order

[name]Gwendolyn[/name] nn [name]Winnie[/name] - love, also like [name]Gwen[/name], [name]Dolly[/name], [name]Wendy[/name]
[name]Penelope[/name] nn [name]Polly[/name] - like it a lot, also love [name]Nelly[/name]
[name]Margaret[/name] nn [name]Meg[/name] - okay, also like [name]Maggie[/name]
[name]Anneliese[/name] nn [name]Anya[/name] - pretty, I like it
[name]Elisabeth[/name] nn [name]Betsy[/name] - love [name]Elisabeth[/name], HATE [name]Betsy[/name]!
[name]Sybil[/name]- meh
[name]Sylvia[/name] - meh
[name]Susannah[/name] -meh, okay
[name]Caroline[/name] - this one is okay, just not as interesting as the others
[name]Miriam[/name] - I like [name]Miri[/name], but [name]Miriam[/name] just isn’t my favorite, I don’t like the sound
[name]Louisa[/name] - I’m just not a fan, it’s better than [name]Louise[/name] and [name]Louis[/name] but not by much
[name]Isannah[/name] - sounds made up, don’t like it

I like most of these! My favorites are probably [name]Caroline[/name] and [name]Louisa[/name]–both so ladylike and elegant, but not too buttoned up, in my opinion. A lot of people have been hard on [name]Betsy[/name] as a nn for [name]Elisabeth[/name], but I love it, and I love [name]Elisabeth[/name] with the softer “s.” Also really like [name]Polly[/name] for [name]Penelope[/name] (I think of the word “polish” more than I do of parrots/crackers; the name just sounds clean to me) and [name]Meg[/name] (so sweet, I think of nutmeg) for [name]Margaret[/name]. [name]Gwendolen[/name] (I prefer this spelling personally, but it’s fine either way) has really grown on me. I do like [name]Isannah[/name], though I had a really bad 8th grade English teacher and we spent what felt like forever on [name]Johnny[/name] Tremain, so that’s a literary association I might not go for myself–but it’s a cool name. Hard to argue with [name]Anneliese[/name]–it does make me think of the word “analyze” and of psychoanalysis, but there are worse associations–or with [name]Susannah[/name]. I don’t think [name]Sybil[/name]'s exactly pretty, but she’s kind of clunky-cool in a way I appreciate. So that leaves [name]Miriam[/name] and [name]Sylvia[/name]–they aren’t bad names by any stretch, but for some reason that feel heavy and dowdy to me in a way that the others don’t. It’s odd with [name]Sylvia[/name] especially, because the sounds themselves are really pretty and I love [name]Sylvie[/name]–but the name as a whole reads heavy and not fun like [name]Sybil[/name] to me.

My favourite is [name]Anneliese[/name] (although I prefer the [name]Annelise[/name] spelling, but that’s just a technicality). I think it’s a really pretty, classy, stong and rather uncommon name. I also think that [name]Anya[/name] is a great nickname for it because it’s different from the typical [name]Annie[/name] or [name]Lee[/name].

My least favourite is [name]Sybil[/name]. I find it odd and old-fashioned, and I also automatically make the [name]Harry[/name] [name]Potter[/name] connection ([name]Sybil[/name] Trelawney, the divination professor). She was a pretty odd duck, so I think that kind of forms my image of a [name]Sybil[/name].

I also like [name]Caroline[/name] and [name]Elisabeth[/name] (except I just cannot stand the nn [name]Betsy[/name]).
