So I have an Ergo baby carrier and I love it. I’m also thinking of getting a Boba [name_f]Air[/name_f]. I have never had a sling or wrap though and have no idea where to start. So here is a chance for all my fellow baby wearers to plug your favorite brand. Thank you.
Well, I have an ergo also and love it. For this baby I got a Comfy [name_u]Joey[/name_u] linen ring sling. It’s really nice, and [name_f]Callie[/name_f] sleeps very well in it. I got it from clothandcarry.com. I also have a Sherpani Rumba backpack carrier (nice, but the ergo is more comfortable), and a [name_u]Baby[/name_u] Nari hip hugger. The hip hugger is nice for situations where you are picking your kid up and putting them down often, like at a zoo. For people shopping for these, all but the sling were bought on sale for half off from zulily.com, babysteals.com, and babyhalfoff.com. The deals come and go, so you just have to watch and wait.
My favourite is my Boba [name_u]Baby[/name_u] Wrap, it’s so comfy for both me and [name_f]Dita[/name_f]. [name_f]Dita[/name_f] sleeps really well in it, and it’s so easy to cuddle and kiss her in it. And it looks really cute! I’ve also got the Ergo Organic Carrier, and that one’s great too.
I have a caboo carrier (fabric sling) which is brilliant! Dd was tiny so was great that she could use it from 5lb
I have a boba that LO isn’t quite big enough to use yet and a baby k’tan. [name_f]Love[/name_f] that the k’tan is a bit more ready-to-wear than a moby and sized to mom.
[name_m]How[/name_m] old/heavy is your baby? The [name_f]Air[/name_f] is really designed for short trips and lighter babies. It’s not nearly as supportive as the regular Boba, but it folds down to a tiny package that is convenient to pack along as a “just in case” type of carrier. I’d avoid stretchy wraps ([name_m]Moby[/name_m], Boba/Sleepy wrap) if your baby is over 10 lbs, as most people start to find them uncomfortable by the time the child hits around 15 lbs or so.
I’m a lover of woven wraps and wrap conversion mei tais (MT’s made from woven wraps). Nothing beats the versatility of a woven wrap, but if you’re not interested in the steeper learning curve, MT’s are easy to use and extremely supportive (most people fall out of love with their Ergos, Bobas, or other soft structured carrier once they try one).
Let me know if you’d like information about a forum I’m on where you can get lots of opinions based on your specific needs. It’s a bunch of sweet mamas that have collectively used every carrier out there, as well as having a FSOT forum to purchase/trade carriers.
We use a baby K’[name_m]Tan[/name_m] and I love it!
I saw a mom wearing the most comfortable and convenient-looking sling. She told me it was a baby K’[name_m]Tan[/name_m], and that she loves it above all others. I will def be trying one of these.
i have had a bunch over the years. Different styles work for different parents and babies. I tried to love wrapping, but never got into it. Woven wraps seem more versiltile from my limited experience, but I also grow big babies who quickly chunk out for a stretchy wrap to be long term. I have owned both an ergo and a beco. The Beco I had was the first generation (I got when [name_m]Linus[/name_m] was a baby so whatever was out in late 06 or early 07) and it worked great. My husband preferred the ergo, he is 6feet tall and 220lbs so I think it maybe fits him better than the beco for a ssc. I had a mei tai (the brand was Kozy Karriers I think) and I loved it. But, the more kids I had the mpre I liked my “buckle and go” ssc’s and not having to worry about straps and wrapping etc.
This time around I started with nothing, and decided on a pouch (hotslings) and an ergo. The pouch I used a lot when he was tiny, and for the pool right now (its not a warer sling but washes easily and I need my hands free at the pool lol). The ergo for everything else, and I use it all the time, a great investment. I am fine with just these two, but it is fun to have a selection to choose from…we certainly did when we had 3 under 4 a few years ago.
We like to support independent/small businesses. We bought a cotton BabyEtte ring sling from Etsy- Handmade Baby Ring Slings & Wraps. Haute Held Happy. by BabyEtte and it was fabulous up until Azula was around 15 lbs. She hated to go in the stroller when she was little and the sling was a lifesaver. It is nice and lightweight and great if you have a little baby in [name_f]Summer[/name_f] and don’t want to wear a big sweaty thing. Also it rolled up to the size of a pop can so it was great to just throw in my purse when we’d go to a friends’ place and it makes it easier to go out for a walk or whatever. Now she is still really light, she could probably still go in the sling but she’s too wiggly, she would much rather be in the stroller where she can really kick her legs and look around.
I have a friend who has an Ergo and she and her husband love it. Their daughter was much heavier from an earlier age than Azula was so a ring sling wouldn’t have worked for them anyway. I might try an Ergo if this next baby is bigger.
Thanks you everyone. I have skinny babies my 3 yr old is only 30lbs and my 15month old is about 20lbs he still fits in a size 2 diaper haha. I’m definitely interested in learning more since I have small babies and most babies hips aren’t ready for a structured carrier until 6 months old anyway. I’m going to look more into wraps and slings.
I loved the [name_m]Moby[/name_m] for the first few months. I had a [name_f]Maya[/name_f] sling, but it killed my back b.c all of the weight was on one shoulder. I got the Ergo when he got too big for the [name_m]Moby[/name_m], and we are still using that at 21 months for hikes and such. With newborns, the Ergo works pretty much like the [name_m]Moby[/name_m]- there isn’t any pressure on their hips, the baby legs are sort of frogged up in there, if that makes sense. There is an infant insert, but many people do not like it and just use a rolled up blanket instead. You can find video tutorials of this on YouTube.
I own and like too many slings, wraps, and pouches! I have always liked using ring slings because they are comfortable for me, but many don’t like them. I like my Didymos wrap. TK mentioned the [name_f]Mei[/name_f] [name_f]Tai[/name_f] and I really like that one too.
For those interested, here are my favorites for wearing 2 babies at once.
earliest days - [name_m]Moby[/name_m] wrap w/ both facing your chest or having them both in a cradle position.
5-6 months and beyond once they get good head control - one on front in [name_f]Mei[/name_f] [name_f]Tai[/name_f] and one on back in a wrap (Didymos for example)
older babies and toddlers - both in slings (sometimes 2 rings or a ring/pouch combo) with a hip carry for both or 2 mei tais work well (one front, one back)
You get lots of stares when babywearing twins – not so much when they are teeny tiny because sometimes people don’t even know you have 2 in a moby wrap. Throughout the day, I usually have at least one baby in sling or wrap of some kind because I loooove to be hands free, love to carry my babies, and have alot to do! I do wear two at once alot of the time too, even at home because it just seems to work for us all. When going out, one baby is always in a sling. We don’t own a double stroller (yes, even after 2 sets of twins!). We like to go hiking and DH wears a baby or toddler on his back for these outings - he likes the [name_f]Mei[/name_f] [name_f]Tai[/name_f]- we have a plain “manly” blue colored one for him
I have hugabub ring sling baby carrier and it is very comfortable to use. It is made with highly certified organic interlock cotton and it is very soft.
At online, we can get the best reliable baby wraps in various models and also with adjustment facility.
I have a Manduca and it is the best money we’ve spent on baby equipment so far (my son is 11 months old and a big, big baby and my back thanks those [name_m]German[/name_m] engineers who came up with the Manduca every day!). It’s basically like an Ergo, except that the insert for tiny babies is a bit more convenient as it is sewn in the carrier and can be rolled in if you don’t use it instead of being an external insert. We also bought a winter cover as we live in the north of [name_f]England[/name_f], and it’s been very useful.
It’s easy to use, much more convenient than a pram if you live in a city / suburb where nothing is child-friendly (I can go shopping with the not-so-little one in the Manduca) and it definitely a life-saver if you travel a lot like us (it works wonders at getting the baby to calm down and get to sleep on the plane or train). We’ll soon carry our son in our back, which is convenient too when they get older. I cannot recommend it enough !
I use boba baby carrier for my baby because it is very comfortable and also very soft.
