Fàvorite 'dated' names

[name]Do[/name] you love any names that you consider dated?

Is there any formula for figuring out if a name is dated or is it more like “most Theresas I know are 50”?

Would you use a dated name and if so what era are you ok with?

Personally I love a lot of names in this category and I find [name]Nancy[/name], [name]Annette[/name], [name]Joan[/name] are usable moreso than [name]Jennifer[/name], [name]Heather[/name], [name]Amanda[/name].

[name]Olga[/name], I really think that one needs a comeback.
Others I like are [name]Nancy[/name], [name]Maude[/name], [name]Agnes[/name], [name]Esther[/name], [name]Dagmar[/name], [name]Ingrid[/name] etc. I don’t know which era those names would place me in.
I’m an absolute sucker for old-fashioned names.

I [name]LOVE[/name] eighties and nineties names!! I hate that they are now the “mom names,” because I love the names:

[name]Jamie[/name] (girl) (my ALL-TIME [name]FAVORITE[/name] name, that I will probably never use :frowning: )
[name]Alicia[/name] (as a first name, or more likely as [name]Jamie[/name]'s middle name)
[name]Alisa[/name]
[name]Katie[/name]
Leighann
[name]Krista[/name]

I know there are more, but these are the first ones that come to mind.

I don’t know that there’s a specific formula, but I think for most people the names of their own generation are “dated” while those of their parents or grandparents are coming back around as “vintage” or seem fresh again. Of course, this rule of thumb is subject to generation length–my friend’s family were a series of short generations and mine were late bloomers, so her grandma is a year younger than my mom. (Her mom was 16 when she had my friend and my mom was 36 when she had me.)

I like [name]Joan[/name] a lot. I think if the name is more commonly used on 40 or 50 year olds, it would be considered dated. I don’t think I would use a dated name, there are so many great modern names.

[name]Cynthia[/name], which is my own name. Many people said it is very dated, old lady name. But then I thought, I am even younger than most people who said it. *sigh
[name]Cynthia[/name]'s pretty, mythological, and even classic to me.

[name]Amanda[/name]
[name]Stephanie[/name]
[name]Alicia[/name] (is it really considered dated?)
[name]Agnes[/name]
[name]Esther[/name]

[name]Dawn[/name].
I think it’s beautiful, but it definitely has that dated feel.

[name]Laura[/name]-[name]Kate[/name]. Or any double-barreled [name]Kate[/name] name. As a kid I was entranced by [name]Mary[/name] [name]Lou[/name] Retton, and I thought having a double-barreled name was the height of coolness. I guess part of me still does.

[name]Whitney[/name]- Sounds so clean and crisp, and the W softens it a bit.
[name]Chelsea[/name]- on a girl or boy.

I love the name [name]Cheryl[/name]. It just sounds so bright and clear to me, like a bell

I love

[name]Whitney[/name]
[name]Dawn[/name]
[name]Robin[/name]
[name]Sarah[/name]
[name]Amy[/name]
[name]Diana[/name]
[name]Allison[/name]
[name]Kristin[/name]
[name]Christina[/name]
[name]Lisa[/name]
[name]Betty[/name]
[name]Bernadette[/name]
[name]Susan[/name]

My thoughts exactly.

I like
[name]Tracy[/name]
[name]Christina[/name]
[name]Susan[/name]
[name]Robin[/name]
[name]Ruth[/name]

There are more but I can’t think right now!

Well some people find [name]Carla[/name] and [name]Diana[/name] dated but since they and their names are so associated with glamour ([name]Carla[/name] Bruni-Sarkozy, [name]Princess[/name] [name]Diana[/name]), I love them and don’t see them as old or frumpy or, well, dated. Same goes for [name]Samantha[/name] ([name]Cameron[/name]) and [name]Jacqueline[/name] ([name]Kennedy[/name]) though I don’t find the names quite as beautiful. Oh, and [name]Melanie[/name]- I love the name and the Gone With the Wind character, and I know a wonderful [name]Melanie[/name] [name]IRL[/name] who was actually named after her!

I like:
[name]Heather[/name]
[name]Kristen[/name]
[name]Whitney[/name]
[name]Lauren[/name]
[name]Melinda[/name]
[name]Amy[/name]
[name]Ellen[/name]

I like [name]Christine[/name]/[name]Christina[/name] and [name]Lisa[/name],which unfortunately seem like mom names now. I also think [name]Melody[/name] is so pretty, despite the fact that berries seem to consider it very dated.

So many of today’s commonly-used names were yesterday’s old lady names. Aside from newly invented names, it’s hard for me to see any as particularly modern. It’s more like the dated names are ones that were very popular at a particular time, like [name]Jennifer[/name], [name]Kelly[/name] and [name]Megan[/name] in my day and then everything else falls into the “not dated” category, including names that have been consistently used, ones that recently came into style and ones so far out of date as to be new again.

I love:

[name]Rachel[/name] (by far my favorite dated name! It’s on my top 5 regardless, I would love to have a little [name]Rachel[/name] one day!)
[name]Amanda[/name]
[name]Agnes[/name] (although I think this is slowly coming back in)
[name]Sarah[/name] (although I don’t really see this as dated–it’s still in the top 50, I believe. But it’s the same with [name]Rachel[/name]–in my state it made a huge leap in the past year and is twice as popular in my state as it is nationally)

I also love [name]Hazel[/name] and [name]Olive[/name], a lot of the people I mention them to in the real world find them “really old fashioned”. I even had a customer through work whose name was [name]Hazel[/name], she couldn’t believe that [name]Hazel[/name] was fashionable again. So among the non-Berries, I would include names like [name]Hazel[/name], [name]Olive[/name], [name]Violet[/name], and [name]Adeline[/name]…

I know a 6 month old [name]Rachel[/name] and a 2 year old [name]Violet[/name].

The whole “dated” thing doesn’t really bother me. My mother dies laughing over babies named [name]Sophie[/name] or [name]Sophia[/name] because it was her grandmother’s name, she thinks THAT’s “dated.” I like

[name]Amanda[/name]
[name]Ashley[/name]
[name]Heather[/name]
[name]Megan[/name]
[name]Erica[/name]
[name]Kristen[/name]
[name]Jenna[/name]
[name]Brianna[/name]
