I voted for [name_m]Leonidas[/name_m] as it’s such a unique and strong name. I also like [name_m]Leonardo[/name_m]! My favorite “[name_m]Leo[/name_m]” name is actually [name_m]Leon[/name_m] although it’s uncommon (and by uncommon I mean I’m probably the only one that likes this combo!)

To get to the nn [name_m]Leo[/name_m] with the probability of 99,9%, my choice would be [name_m]Leopold[/name_m].
[name_m]Leonidas[/name_m] is not for me, it just a bit too much. [name_m]Leander[/name_m] would probably get you to [name_u]Lee[/name_u].

However, my personal favourite is [name_u]Elliott[/name_u], of course. I really like [name_m]Leo[/name_m]/[name_m]Lio[/name_m] as a nickname for it, though it would probably be one you have to introduce to other people à la: “and that’s my son [name_u]Elliott[/name_u]. [name_m]Leo[/name_m] come here and say hello please!” or “and that’s [name_m]Leo[/name_m]… [name_u]Elliott[/name_u], please stop doing that!”.

PS: It’s a shame that in English, people swallow the “o” in [name_m]Leonard[/name_m], since that would be my favourite way to get to [name_m]Leo[/name_m] safely!

I only like [name_m]Leo[/name_m] as a nn for [name_u]Lennox[/name_u].

[name_u]Lennox[/name_u] nn [name_m]Leo[/name_m] is an intriguing option, [name_u]Ashley[/name_u]! I had always liked [name_u]Lennox[/name_u], but never really liked the option of [name_m]Len/name_m or [name_m]Knox[/name_m]. I think [name_m]Knox[/name_m] is cool, but not particularly for me. [name_u]Lennox[/name_u] nn [name_m]Leo[/name_m] is much more my cup of tea, but I’m not sure I’m actually feeling [name_u]Lennox[/name_u] right now, either, which is surprising to me. :frowning:

[name_f]Polly[/name_f], I think a [name_m]Leonard[/name_m] could still go by [name_m]Leo[/name_m]! I know there’s a [name_u]Berry[/name_u] who has a [name_m]Leonard[/name_m] [name_u]Cyrille[/name_u] nn [name_m]Leo[/name_m], so I don’t know why not. [name_m]Leo[/name_m] is right in the name, anyhow. It seems pretty dated here, but it’s still a nice name. It reminds me of [name_m]Leonard[/name_m] [name_m]Cohen[/name_m], which is a nice reference (my geeky side also likes the reference to [name_m]Leonard[/name_m] Nimoy!). I’ve never been particularly fond of [name_m]Leonard/name_m/[name_m]Leon[/name_m] to get to [name_m]Leo[/name_m], but they are certainly lovely names.

@trippindippy - meh. Yeah, I could never really get into [name_m]Leonardo[/name_m], but it’s a nice name. It seems to be worn by too many big-names, like [name_m]Leonardo[/name_m] diCaprio and [name_m]Leonardo[/name_m] da [name_m]Vinci[/name_m]. I guess one could say that [name_m]Leonardo[/name_m] da [name_m]Vinci[/name_m] is an incredibly awesome namesake, though! Actually, my sister loves [name_m]Leon[/name_m] nn [name_m]Leo[/name_m]. It’s one of her favorite names. (I guess which begs the question why I’m considering [name_m]Leo[/name_m], but we’ve been bickering over [name_u]Everett[/name_u] and [name_m]Leo[/name_m] for years, so I don’t think either one of us could claim them until we actually have a son, lol) My main hesitation with it is that it was my childhood babysitter’s husband’s name. He’s a nice guy, but I haven’t remained close enough to really want to honor him, and yet the association is too close to ignore. If that makes sense. I think my sister just doesn’t care about it, though. haha.

I thought I was just seriously considering [name_m]Leopold[/name_m] and just [name_m]Leo[/name_m], but I started thinking about [name_m]Leander[/name_m], [name_u]Elliott[/name_u], and [name_m]Leonidas[/name_m], and now I’m not sure. I love the sound of [name_m]Leonidas[/name_m]. I am thinking [name_m]Xavier[/name_m] or [name_m]Christian[/name_m] for the first MN, but I’m not sure. Does [name_m]Leopold[/name_m] [name_m]Xavier[/name_m] or [name_m]Leopold[/name_m] [name_m]Christian[/name_m] sound nice? I think, if I went for [name_m]Leo[/name_m], I’d use something a little more unusual, since [name_m]Leo[/name_m] is much more popular than the fuller [name_m]Leopold[/name_m].

I think just Leo might be best if you intend on exclusively calling him Leo. It seems a bit of a shame to use the more popular Leo, whilst hiding the more unusual, but equally awesome Elliott, Leopold, and Leonidas. I personally think Leo doesn’t really fit that well with Leopold as a full name; they just seem to have completely different personalities to me. But I do think Leo suits Elliott and Leonidas really well. Leo’s a great name by the way.

Hope that helped, at least a little.

I think [name_m]Leo[/name_m] works really well on its own.
I do love [name_u]Elliot[/name_u], but I dont see [name_m]Leo[/name_m] as a nickname for it.

Thanks, everyone! I think [name_u]Elliott[/name_u] and [name_m]Leander[/name_m] are going to be out, at this point. I agree that a ton of people aren’t going to “see” [name_u]Elliott[/name_u] nn [name_m]Leo[/name_m], even though the sound’s almost right there, not to mention the spelling (I wonder if spelling it [name_m]Lio[/name_m] would help). And while I like [name_m]Leander[/name_m] a LOT, I don’t know, I kind of just can’t see me using it. [name_m]Leander[/name_m] and [name_m]Leo[/name_m] seem so different, too (although I know several guys named [name_m]Leandro[/name_m] nn [name_m]Leo[/name_m], so it doesn’t seem like a stretch to me at all). That leaves me with [name_m]Leonidas[/name_m], [name_m]Leopold[/name_m], and just [name_m]Leo[/name_m]. As much as I’ve grown to like [name_m]Leonidas[/name_m], it just seems really different from my usual taste, and I’m thinking of nixing it, too. WDYT? Could you see a [name_m]Leonidas[/name_m] as a brother to [name_m]Caleb[/name_m], [name_u]Everett[/name_u], [name_m]Grant[/name_m], and [name_m]Casper[/name_m]? I’m not sure I can.

I think it’ll probably come down to whether I can find a combo I like better for [name_m]Leopold[/name_m] or just [name_m]Leo[/name_m]. I am notoriously bad with coming up with just [name_m]Leo[/name_m] combos, but I haven’t had much luck with [name_m]Leopold[/name_m] in the past, either.

I absolutely love [name_m]Leo[/name_m] on its own T^T its so handsome. Thankfully its not popular here where I live. If you insist on a longer name, I would go for [name_m]Leon[/name_m] or [name_m]Leopold[/name_m]!

My favorite is definitely just [name_m]Leo[/name_m], but if I had to pick a longer form, I’ve always liked [name_m]Leopold[/name_m]. [name_m]Leonidas[/name_m] is handsome too.

Never thought of [name_u]Lennox[/name_u] nn [name_m]Leo[/name_m], and i am a big fan of [name_u]Lennox[/name_u]. Hmm… [name_m]Will[/name_m] have to let that one sit for a while. However I suspect it may fall into the same category as [name_u]Elliott[/name_u] for me, where they are just too ingrained as separate names to me for me to consider one as a nickname for the other. However since [name_u]Elliott[/name_u] is on the list, [name_m]Elio[/name_m] is another thought. Or a combo of initials, like [name_u]Leland[/name_u] [name_u]Orion[/name_u] or something…

[name_m]Leo[/name_m] is strong and handsome enough to stand on his own.

Honestly it might be a bit of a stretch, but I love [name_m]Leonard[/name_m], espescially with the Big bang theory reference. [name_m]Leon[/name_m] is also nice too.
